Plenty of people comment on cars (positive and negative) all the time without having driven them.

Anyway each to their own. I enjoyed Top Gear Live.

I am looking forward to the TG Christmas Special. They reportedly doing another epic drive this time in India.

I have already admitted elsewhere that I haven't been lucky enough to drive one.
I'm afraid it just doesn't do it for me. Did love watching them launch at Targa this year, there are just other cars I find more exciting.

If you don't think it's so great, why would you not feel "lucky" enough to have driven one? Surely being "lucky enough" implies that it's actually a good thing?

A car only “soul” when you feel it, when you become involved with it, i.e. when you have driven it. For you to comment on its soul yet not having driven it smacks of basing your opinion on one of Clarkson’s videos.

I understand it does nothing for you, but don’t talk about a car’s soul when you have nothing to base it on.

I maintain the GTR is soulless. It is a technical marvel, and a hell of a car, but doesn't really stir any kind of emotional response or desire.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, it just so happens yours is wrong.

The 35 is one of the most exciting cars I've ever driven. Despite driving one regularly, I still get a massive thrill from something as simple as going through a round-a-bout. The 35's change of direction is unbelievable.


It's funny though, the only time I hear people make comments similar to yours is when the comment is shortly followed by "well, no, I haven't driven one". Usually people are just regurgitating the words of a journalist.

I must admit, before I had driven one, I thought I would prefer the 'raw' feel of the 32-34. I'd love to see you take a series of corners with sharp changes of direction in a 35 and then tell me it doesn't evoke any emotional response.

Just out of curiosity, what's the average time frame and under what driving conditions ( ie do you get to take every car
to a track etc ) before you form your opinion for a review?

I get each car for a week. Sometimes two weeks.

Yes, I can take the cars to the RAC Driving Centre (like I'll be doing with the 1 Series M Coupe), or I have my own "track" which constitutes a few roads I know well - some members have experienced the long and short track versions.
