You have way too much time on hand to search and I must be way too unfit.

I would die riding a fixie to work.

Riding to the pub being a hipster sounds more palatable. ....

I'll ride single speeds to work.

I rode my old one the 11+km to work and it was a fair effort. got a bike with gears and quickly found it wasn't enough work, so I started to go the long way through king's park.
Now I'm moving to 6km away from work so either I'll have to take a slightly longer way on the single or take the LONG long way to work to get enough exercise in the morning.

    I ride 50 k a day to work. Typically 4 days a week. On a fixie I think i wouldn't make one way

Single speed I could do, but full fixed without free wheel I reckon would be a bit dodgey for a commute...at least with my level of fixed skills. The inability to stop pedalling cornering or at any time really can get a bit hectic

There is a guy that passes me most days on a fixie. It's beyond me how he does it. I just tell myself they just got on the bike. What I hate about it h rides with hands off the bars. Shits me

Bought this rig from Carine Cycles to start commuting my 42km round trip to work instead of driving. This should be good training for Cape to Cape next year.

2016 Apollo Xpert 50 (29er) in matte black which has the new SRAM GX group set, Manitou Marvel 100mm air forks, 160mm Hayes disc brakes etc

NOR from Landsdale to Hazelmere. I did a 32km round trip from Ellenbrook to South Guildford for 6 months when I lost my license on a shitty Giant Alias.

Can't do Cape to Cape on a road bike!

Apollo have come a long way from the kmart-spec bikes they used to make 10 years ago.

If you're just sticking to commuting for a while, you could probably throw some road tyres on there if the rims are not too wide.

I mainly got the bike for the components not the brand. I plan on buying a "Charbon" 29er frame next year to swap all the gear onto.

I swapped the 2.35 Hutchison Cobras for some Maxxis Wormdrives. They didn't have any slicks in stock so these are the next best thing being skinny "semi-slick"

Anyone know the cheapest shop or website to purchase road bike tyres?

I'm after the Continental GP4000s2 and my local bike shop is asking $99 per tyre which seems a bit high.

Echo this. XTC 29er SL1 killed me last year and I trained pretty hard to finish 168th overall.

For outright pace I reckon the hard tail 29er is the go for C2C but for enjoyment of the event without paying much of a penalty a dually is the way forward.

Yea lots of planks, not enough core stuff was probably my shortfall but one gym session, three Road rides and one Mtb ride a week wasn't enough.

It's challenging, fun, simple. The bikes require minimal maintenance, are light weight, and they look good.

I'm down the whole long weekend for CX on the Monday. Staying in Dunsborough.

No time for XC race, but still plan to get some mountain biking in on the Saturday arvo and road on the Sunday.

My Current ride Built it up December last year from clearance/sale/discounted parts. Dartmoor Hornet 26" 150mm travel hardtail. Not the quickest thing around, but it keeps me honest & in check.

Have been wanting something a little less aggressive, so picked up this Specialized Fate frame recently for an XC build. $200 for a new carbon frame with full factory warranty, can't go wrong.
