Try stuff until you get stuck. Make it a challenge and go through bad lines, the dodgy bits. Most people go around and then go "im awesome cos i never get stuck." Like riding a bike, if you dont fall off your not trying anything hard. 4wding is the same.
If you wear nice-ish clothes 4wd'ing and they come home clean the pilot hasn't been properly off road.

Yep, completely underpowered for a V8, I bought mine for lack of tech to be honest.
Plus with a tune and a few bolt ons they get a bit livelier. I dare say the Raptors engine is close to its limit.
Oh and I get to tow 3500kg compared to the raptors 48kg :P

1VD is hardly low tech, the inside of the vehicle is, but the engine has some very tight tolerances... it's very fragile!

Ford, like Toyota, have ample room to move for performance growth in most of their equipment. So I dare say, it's not close to its limit...

Every Toyota fragile component has been replaced and upgraded on the GSL race truck... so sure if you want to drop a cheque book on your setup, you too can build a very powerful, hardly stock, setup.

Iíve worked on them for years, the only weak thing is the clutch when you start modding them, people carried on about the high pressure fuel lines need replacing after removal, but in theory, all common rail lines should be to a degree. They have a shitty egr system, but easily sorted, hardly fragile.

It runs live axles, manual hubs, manual box and transfer, linkage based steering, all low tech stuff easy to fix when touring with minimal tools, parts are plentiful and easily available.

No car is immune to problems, but for a 2013 built vehicle, itís the closest to being the best should they arrive.

Perhaps instead of assuming everything, bring knowledge to the conversation instead...

Last time in dunes (not lancelin) i think all of us got stuck, multiple times. but the 200 got stuck the most and went the least before getting stuck.

And when the going gets tricky, a car that weighs 2.8t empty and is the size of house struggles more quickly then something lighter and more nimble.
Mates 4x4 truck is a Iveco. Runs 37 inch tyres. 8 sod manual. Around 4 tonne. 6 t towing.

If we are comparing heavy cars etc. This thing is a truck. More approach/departure angle. Ground clearance etc and probably rescued more 4x4 cars than you can poke a stick at.
Power line track is not even a challenge for the truck.

Unimog another truck. Probable the most capable 4x4 vehicle i have even driven.

Horses for courses matched with skill sets.

I think you have missed the point of a raptor.

I think he has missed the point with most cars!

And no need to back up a claim, when its fact and the information is readily available... if you can find the fastest 1VD, then you can find all the related known fragile points with them too. But I doubt you will, instead you'll retort with another preposterous remark.

So the Amarok V6 makes 8kw and 50Nm more from two extra cylinders and one litre than the 157kw 500nm Raptor engine for a similar weight engine.

Anyone who thinks itíll be slow is off chops.

And when did 4wd people on Facebook become such a bunch of whiny bitches. Reading the comments is hilarious

old thread but meh. Do like the new raptor but like others have said, was hoping for a bit more engine.

As a side, how strong are the getrag 6 speed manuals in the rangers? Im going to assume the drivelines are the same between the models? I mean for reliability in a tuned ranger in hot conds (think sand in the Pilbara/exmouth towing a boat) which tranny is going to last?

On the topic of engines, what are peoples thoughts on the 4L V6 hilux? Surely that would go pretty good towing and dunes etc?
