    18" Tyre Recommendatons

    Hi all,

Recently I purchased some new rims and now im in need of some new tyres.

Currently im running my stock tyres on the rims (245/40/R18) with a small amount of stretch, was wanting to know whats a good road tyre to run that has minimal noise.

I'm currently running Dunlop Sport 600's - factory tyre that has lasted 35xxxkms, need some tyres that would last similar amount of kms.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm a big fan of the Michelin Pilot Sport range. Get Pilot Super Sports if you're worried about noise or Pilot Cup Sports if you want to upgrade to something 1/2 way between a high performance road tyre and an R-Comp.

I run pilotsport 3's on my focus and cant fault them. Not rotating tyres at and they've been in the front for around 16k and have a fair bit of tread left. (I know I should rotate, but got two average tyres on the back when the michelins die I'll most likely buy a full set).

Wearing great, great performing and not too pricey (235/40/18 was $260 a corner a year ago). Road noise isn't an issue with them.

    Thread dig.

I'm after a set of new tyres in the near future.

After a VERY grippy tyre for the street (Racewars included), noise and treadwear dosent dosent bother me and I'm not too interested in track work so tyre can have softer sidewall (Can't choose MT ET streets though).

I have Nitto INVOs now and they are bad.. Thoughts?

Get hold of Jose or Joel at ITP Racecars. They ran some high end Nitto's on the crazy Supra at Snowy's and had a very good result. Tell them they're for Racewars and they'll do you a deal (ITP are returning as sponsors for 2015)

I've just had a look over the Nitto website. http://www.nittotire.com/racing-tires/

NT555R's are 100% fine. I don't quite understand the sidewall coding on the NT05R's but they have a load rating which is the big one and I've seen them used for similar events to RW.

Failing the Nitto's... Michelin Pilot Sport Cups are about as good as it gets for a hi-po street tyre.

Any tyre you put on that car is going to have it's work cut out for it.

Hankook RS3 are very good. Treadwear rating is 140 and they aren't an rcomp so they grip from cold. If you want r comps I heard a lot of good stuff about the Z221 Hankooks.

Yeah if I had the cash to replace mine more than I'd care to, I'd go the Nitto 555r's, I ended up with the Contisport Contact 5's, fucking stoked with them over the Proxes T1r's, I was going to go the Proxes R1r's, but the load rating was less than what's standard.

I've found Toyo R888s pretty grippy. I used to spin through second with AD08Rs, now dead hook first if they are warm (I'm no where near your power levels obviously).
Little noisy but not that bad.

Brett - I've got the same tyre - do you find them woefully bad on road noise?

Compared to the Proxes, they are better, but yeah they are still average, I had some scalloping on the fronts before, so I know I need a wheel alignment too.
But I'd rather some road noise and increased grip, they stick like all fuck, combined with the diff trickery and traction control it's super fun to throw into corners now.

Be warned if you go up to a bigger tyre size, the 5's cost a decent amount, we paid just under $700 for two.

    Thanks for the info fellas.

I have heard good things from the Hankook RS3s also, ill see how they compare to the Nittos. R888 is an awesome tyre, but i think they are more suited to circuit racing.

Ill probablly stick with a Drag radial, NT05R or NT555R which are still good for Racewars and hopefully Cootamundra if i end up going. Should be able to squeeze a 285 if i roll the guards.

I have had Achilles 123S semi-slicks for a little while and they are a very grippy tyre and good value for money.

(Josh from Galvsport recommend to fit them when I purchased my new wheels)

Yeah I looked at them but they didn't do a 225 for my size, I'll be going them on 31 when it finally see's the road.

Resurrecting an old thread to ask where people recommend getting the Pilot Super Sports or the PS3 from? If it matters, in 255/40/18. I've up to now mostly bought from over east, but happy to support local businesses if they aren't horribly overpriced.

    Thanks in advance

Im having trouble picking my tyres

Preferably want 265x40x18 rears, and 245x40x18 fronts in Y rating if possible.

This is where it is hard as a lot I have looked at are only W which is 270k/hr

    Any good suggestions?

OP could you squeeze a 265 under? Great deals on the AD08 atm, great tyre that you get reasonable life out of, not the quietest though.

Wheels world are also doing a special on AD08s at the moment. Apparently they over ordered or something so clearing stock

I just spoke to them and the shipment hasn't arrived yet (should be early next week), and all of the 265s are sold however they are trying to get another shipment and may continue those prices. Worth giving them a call
