Hi everyone,
Because myself and probably 99% of the population of these forums are getting a little tired of people asking if their car is "performance" enough to come on "performance vehicle only" cruises, I'm going to lay it down for you.
What is a Performance Car?
A performance car is one that was sold and marketed by a manufacturer, as a high-performance vehicle.
High-Performance is defined as a car that has a greater level of braking, handling and straight line performance, than your average vehicle. It is basically designed to go fast (or at least faster than an ordinary vehicle).
This can mean it was a stand-alone model that was built to perform to a high-level of performance from the outset (for example, a Honda S2000 or FD3S Mazda RX7, they are built from the outset as a performance vehicle) or a vehicle which is a performance derivative of a more standard vehicle (Evo, XR6 Turbo, WRX for example, based on more mundane versions). If your vehicle resembles one of these, then by all means.. come along.
A performance car can also be a car that was never meant to be a performance car, but you turned it into one i.e. Nissan Pulsar with an SR20DET/SR20VE conversion, Honda Civic with a K20A conversion, upgraded brakes, suspension and rims, etc. These are okay, MC Hammer approved running-man spec.
DO NOT CONFUSE YOURSELF with vehicles that were sold as "performance" inspired vehicles, but aren't real performance cars i.e. Hyundai Excel Sportz, N13 Pulsar SSS. These are not performance cars, and if you rock up in one of these, I will wreck your shit and/or laugh at you. You can swap arguments with other people regarding this, more than marbles and Brockas swap STD's with the majority of Perth's female population, but it won't help you.
There is a grey area when it comes to the more watered down or budget versions of performance vehicles, such as non-turbo Silvia's, Skylines or Supra's, non-turbo Falcon XR6's, etc.. These resemble their higher-performing brethren, but don't go anywhere near as quick. Use your discretion.
I.E. If you have an NA JZA80 Supra that is packing 17" Bob Jane chrome wheels, neons and a fart can exhaust, stay home and light yourself a face fire.
If you have an NA JZA80 Supra that is dumped with Jap coilovers on fat Jap wheels, has a few tasteful mods and you genuinely enjoy driving it, without trying to make up for a lack of performance with ridiculous, distasteful mods, then you're welcome to attend.
IF you have a car that was never sold as a performance car, such as a Hyundai Excel, N12 Nissan Pulsar, VN Commodore Executive, then stay home and stab yourself in the eye with a screwdriver. I don't care if you have neons, or an exhaust, or a VT Commodore body kit.. you can suck my balls.
YOU ALSO RUN THE RISK OF SUCKING MY BALLS if you own a car that was never intended to be a performance car, but you shove a stonking hi-po engine under the hood... and leave the stock boat suspension, single pegger diff and 195 wheels on the back, plus you drive it dangerously. Basically, if its a death trap, fuck off.
And remember.. if you're able to use a computer to find out if a cruise is on, it means that your brain has probably developed from birth to allow you the ability to make a discretionary decision. If you generally have to ask yourself or anyone else if your car is a performance car, then it generally isn't, or you might just be stupid.
Thanks
