We more have issues with the auto gearboxes and turbo seals. Only heard of 1 motor popping though.

I drive them all the time, they are gutless pigs for turbo diesels. Toyota 4WD for the win.

nah its a 2.4 petrol, same motor as an old corona and celica. very gutless in a hilux but got torque.

Been thinkin about droppin either a lexus V8 or commie v6 in it but end of the day there is no need really as its more than capable of doin anythin i want to do, plus a slow vehicle keeps me sensible.

ah yea guy at my work has a hilux with a vr v6 and simex xtremes the lot he said its not the easyest conversion but it can but done , also seen in custom 4x4 mag a couple cars with the 1uz? i think it is toyota v8 apparentyl they rate that motor in 4wd's

GM v6 goes in pretty easy, buy conversion kit and drop it in. Bolts up to stock 5 speed. The conversion kit and bellhousing cost as much as about 5 of the engines tho. then there is all the hassle of converting from carby to efi. Can buy the same kit for the lexus V8. Have read alot of ppl complainin that the lexus v8 lacks low down torque and its really noticable off road.
