    Show us your bunky/daily/thrasher

As discussed in another thread, I thought it would probably be a good idea to start a thread where people can post their non-performance cars i.e. bunky, daily driver, thrasher, or whatever you want to call it.

    I'll kick it off.

When I'm not driving my WRX, I'm sailing around in a yacht known as a 1996 Ford Fairlane Ghia.

I'm as passionate about this car as I am about my WRX.

    What I love about it:

    - It's been in the family since new and was given to me 3 years ago, and as such is in excellent condition. It done 10,000km a year for 11 years, meaning the overall km are very low.

    - Still registered through our family business (note the number plates), which means I don't pay for rego or insurance.

    - Has plenty of torque, because its a V8. As such, it does great skids.

    - Converted it to LPG last year and now it costs as much to run as your average 4 cyl.

    - The most comfortable car I've ever driven. With its fully operational self-levelling air suspension and fairly fresh shocks all round (replaced about 2 yrs ago), its like a big lounge suite floating on a cushion of air.

    - Reliable. Starts first go, and drives beautifully all day, every day. We did a major service and replaced most of the cooling system when I was given the car (typical mid 90s Ford crumbling cooling system issues), so now its perfect.

    - Easy to park once you get the hang of it.

    - Lots of features, as expected in a mid 90s Australian luxury car....fake wood, over-the-top textured velour on every surface of the interior, half decent stereo, electronic climate control, warning lights for everything you can think of, etc.

What I don't like about it

    - When my grandfather had the car, he scraped the edge of the front left quarter panel on a wall. I haven't repaired this.

    - Few scratches and pin dents, which is expected for a daily driven 11 yr old car (although the car looks fab once its polished up!).

    - Foggy headlights. I need to polish these up every few months, because they go yellow and foggy (like all Falcon/Fairlane's of that era).

    - It currently has two blocked cat converters, so economy and power are down a bit. Will be fitting full exhaust soon.

    - Small coolant leak that I still can't find. I need to drop some coolant into it every few months to keep it topped up, so its no big deal.

    - Needs to have front rotors skimmed and brake pads replaced, as they vibrate under braking.

    - Some arsehole broke the back quarter window about 12 months ago, and although I replaced it, I haven't retinted it yet.

    - The same arsehole attempted to break my drivers side lock. Now when I lock the car using the remote, you can open the door by pulling the door handle up. If I lock it with the key, its fine.

    - The LH mirror snapped off its mounts. I taped it up but it fell off again yesterday. New mirror on the way.

    - Front passenger door mould fell off, new one sitting on bench ready to be painted and fitted.

Overall, I love it...and now that the car is getting to the point where I'm extremely happy with it, I can see me keeping it for a while. Comfortable, big and cheap to run. Cant beat it IMHO

balistic i have seen that car around before, wondering what the plates mean.. cleanest bunky ever?? haha

This is mine. Its never clean..

downgraded to 31's, not as good on the beach but much better on petrol, no strain on the p/s and much easier to drive in general.

I thought that was your car Joe, saw it in northbridge during the day a few weeks ago.

I have two bunkys... Well I got my work van, 1999 Toyota Hiace LWB with DIRECT Couriers stickers on it. Almost done 200k but its still kickin on strong. Just had the brake pads replaced a couple of weeks ago.

The other, which is just about to go, is a 1998 Toyota Rav4. For what it is, its not a bad car, but I can barely fit in it so its gotta go. I'll post some pics up later.

Ahaha I can't believe my beast gets spotted!!

[VASTESE] means Vastese Bakery, which is our business. We also have a BA Fairmont Ghia which is [VASTESE 2]. It belongs to my late grandfather, and we drive it whenever we get the chance (it stays at my grand mothers house, 2004 model with only 18,000km on the clock)

This was my bunky, got yellowed so I sold it, cbf putting money into it. VP Comm V6.

    What I loved:
Bonnet scoop that didnt go anywhere!
Scoop, wing, half a door, rear bar all painted with a can!
3" exhaust, no mufflers, most annoying thing ever!
Box was rooted, had to swerve across the road violently to get it from 3rd to 4th.
Sick single 10" sony sub with a dirty great crack in it, pounded beatz.

    What I hated:
Nothing. Best off roader I've ever been in. Could take curbs/islands/median strips/parks/bush trails with ease, and put a huge smile on your face doing it.

My current daily is my Senator. When I had the VP I just wished I was in the Sig, so why not be?

When I'm not driving the 31 or it's obviously broken, I'm driving this

    1993 VP Calais v6 rattler

    Things I love

    - It has cruise control
    - It's good on fuel ( Avg of 9.8 Per 100kms Country driving )
    - Rebuilt Pwr steer pump
    - Brand new Steering rack
    - Brand new gear box
    - Rebuilt LSD ( Friggen awesome)
    - It's comfy
    - It doesn't have a single oil leak any where
    - It had 175 ***k's when I bought it

Things I'm not a fan of
    - the paint is a bit faded on the bonnet and roof
    - It's slow
    - It has VN Taillights ( But are brand new )
    - It's as ugly as sin
    - the roof lining is starting to sag ( but which model doesn't )
    - leaky left hand exhaust manifold, so it dak daks a bit
    - It's not my Skyline

    Pros:
    - never breaks
    - cheap to run
    - nice system to get me by
    - the sr20
    - cold aircon, comfy, quieta

    Cons:
    - 250,000+ km's
    - lots of bad paint areas including a $2 can job by a reputable body shop which is now peeling
    - 5th gear doesn't work

The Fairlane seems like the ideal bunky, cheap to run, power and lots of space!

Iused to have a Daihatsu Charade bunky, then it popped a headgasket and I never fixed it, the rest of the car was so shit it just wasn't worth it.

When I bought the Chaser it kinda became the daily when I still had the turbo 31, it was more comfy and used less fuel than the 31

When I get back from the US in Aug I'll think about getting another daily.
