Ridden in winter where the trail has been damp with light rain. Also done it too in heavy rain. Never again.

Definitely keen to get into some events next year...team ones too.

Pic of Reign as it currently stands...need to tidy up the clothesline mess at the front.

Nope, that guide is just a BB mount - fits in place of one of the 2mm spacers originally on there. Haven't had any issues with it slipping.

I was going to just get a Widgit, but figured this arrangement might be better (cheaper to change chairing size if need be). The chain has slipped off a couple of times from below, but gets back on as you pedal anyway.

ah yeah, press fit BB's can't run that Looks like I'll stick with the Widgit for now.

XT brakes just rocked up so hoping to get them on the bike this arvo.... already looking at next upgrades 2013 Fox34 TALAS 160 and maybe some LightFactory carbon wheels.

The have a few mounting options, seattube and and Direct-mount.

Was a bit worried about it bottoming out on the chain stay of the swing arm under full compression, but there is plenty of clearance.

What are the existing brakes on yours?

Nope....dunno if the Shimano lines are any different, but I've trimmed the Avid lines easily with a Stanley knife...just make sure you have a new/clean bade

Can't recall what that free brake fluid I got from Brakes Direct is, if it's 5.1, I'll just use that to rebleed them

Just bought myself a bike after not riding for 10+ years, and got the missus one as well. Doing it mainly for a little fitness, coast rides, the odd trek through the hills n stuff. Thought I'd give one of these 29er thingos a go.

    Merida TFS100

Missus got herself a Malvern Star Switch 29-7

Now to find some good trails around the place.

Any one know about these polygon brand bikes? I'm kicking myself after selling my giant and want another roadie, the polygons seem pretty well spec'd for the price

made in indonesia AFAIK, spec wise they do seem very good and are cheap enough to buy and risk a frame IMO.

Just cut my brake cables shorter .... took all of about 5 minutes and no need to bleed the lines again if you take care not to shake them about and lose fluid. Shimano brakes came with two blocks to clamp hose in a vice (I just used vise-grips), cut it off with side cutters, gave it a squeeze with pliers to make it round again, hammered compression insert in, slipped on olive and nut and did it up.

    Nice!

I'm guessing you had the lever in such a way so it would not leak any fluid? Might have to try shortening without re-bleeding....I wouldn't say the Avids are hard to bleed, just fiddly.

I just leant the bike on its side for each lever

Was just looking at the Merida today, they dont look to bad (not that I know sfa about bikes these days)

Interested to find out what people here who are in the know would recommend for something in the 1k range.. to be used for the same purposes that monk listed above..

So far Im liking the look of the trek and merida, but I had a cpl specialized 20" many years ago and they were good bikes.

Need some bars with more rise and sweep....

    Thoughts on CF bars?

My only concern is if I were to have a stack and dent or badly scratch the bars - do minor things like that really matter? See lots of people freaking out with small dents/scratches in CF frames all the time.

After working on the yeti with carbon bars, and seeing the abuse it's copped, i'll probably stick with my Deity bars.

I run these on my all mountain rig, and they are good for the wrists imho. The sweep is perfect for my setup, I also run a Diety Fantom 50mm stem thats 0/0.

I have short arms, so pulls the whole cockpit back for me.

I went with some Answer 720's. Look pretty porn however must admit, i get pretty sore wrists when riding on my xc bike. Im hoping that has something to do with my super short and high rise stem as the bars are a standard sweep and look identical to my fsa bars on the dh rig which i have no dramas with. New stem should be here soon so i will know one way or anyther. BTW the answer bars are not particularly light at 200g

i just took my spank royalas off if you want to bolt them on and give them a try, I went back to stock before I decide to cut the spanks or not.

Not sure where you got that Merida are the biggest bike manufacturer in the world. Pretty sure Giant are and I've ridden and known a few people who own Merida's and personally for the price I think they are shit.
