Have been ordering/purchasing bits n pieces for the DH bike of late.

Scored a set of Hope Mono M4's from fleabay real cheap. Turns out one of the calipers is cracked so have put in an order with CRC for all the parts to rebuild 2 lever/master assemblies, 1 caliper (and fit the new type pistons) and ordered a new caliper. Just need pads, new levers and rotors and the braking side if things is sorted.

Have also picked up a set of Truvativ Descendant cranks with GPX BB, and a set of Mavic 729s laced to Sun Ringle hubs...

Almost time to start looking at powder coating the frame. Also thinking of getting the calipers etc all re anodised. Anyone had it done? Or have an idea of price? Will be calling around Monday.
Fuck cars, I'm taking up scrapbooking.

Really? Thought it was the other way around. Will send him a message/email and see what he says. Was thinking satin black, some gloss black and a few anodised blue bits.

I've been trying to decide on a new wheelset (been racing on my Mavic Aksium's).
Still 50/50 if I should go light weight or aero. Budget is around $1,000.

At the moment I'm leaning towards a set of fulcrum racing zero's.
In the aero camp I'm looking at the shimano RS80 c50 & Zipp 60.
I don't really want full carbon as I usually end up in the hills and I don't really trust the braking on steep descents.

    Any thoughts?

What are you racing Ben? If its crit's, go light.

Stay away from Zipp FP60's. They are shit. They are heavy, and several of the sets I have seen, even my own have had nipples start pulling through. They are not a nice wheelset.

Wiggle/chainreaction had a set of reynolds carbons for about the $600 mark (tubulars) I was going to use them for training wheels.

Racing Zero's are a good wheel, but I still love the Zipp 404 or 303's. However outside your budget.

We don't have steep descents here :-) , and carbon is fine for descending. I spent 3 weeks in italy on 404's, and another week in Spain, including descending Angliru (up to 24%) on Ching chong ling ling carbons. If you are on clinchers/carbons, just be a little careful on pressures, but again, we don't have the hills here to hurt carbons braking.

I've heard lots of good things about www.light-bicycle.com wheels. When funds permit I'll be ordering some of their carbon 650b mountain bike wheels... if they can be broken, I will do it. I managed to bend a set of Sun Rhyno Lite XL weldeds which are meant to be one of the toughest rims out there.

    Aero trumps lightweight.

I have the RS80 C50s and I like them. Good value. They aren't the lightest but 300 grams isn't going to be make or break for me.

That said don't expect to notice a big difference. I went from Aksiums to C50s and its not night and day.

If its racing only could look at the Chinese carbon tubulars. I thought about this but a power meter would be a better investment.

Mmm are you basing that on first hand experience of both? I did a bit of a search on those cosmics and there was quite a bit of negative feedback floating around. I guess it's like anything on the internet really, for every hundred people that rate something, there is a hundred more eager to bag it out. I initially liked the FFWD's because i'm yet to see a bad review on the net, also team Vacansoleil are running them without issues so seem good bang for buck ~$1,300. They also match the colour scheme of my bike, and being the wanker I am, I quite like that.

I see there is a bloke on gumtree selling 2013 zipp firecrest clincher sets for ~$2.5k .... *sigh* Given the little kms i clock, I really couldn't justify such a purchase. I'd just look like a donkey with expensive wheels.

What's your view on the FFWD F6R LostInTheWoods?

    Have Used both
main problem with cosmic get is noisy spokes and pulling spokes. Preventative maintenance solves both those issues
