added a 70mm carbon FSA stem, 180mm front rotor, converted it to 1x10 with a 34T widgit and ditched the whole front derailer system. also have a pair of crossmarks coming as the bontrager 29-2's are shit and will be lucky to have lasted a month.
rides so much nicer now, i love it.... must have been the red rotor bolts.

just need to tidy up the 17km of brake tubing, and cut the bars down a bit. they are supposedly 680 bars, but measure in at 710.

also... what is the recommendation on rear derailers now i'm on 1x10?
i've got a long cage sram x5, is it worth going to a short cage (which i think is only available in the x9) as there is a 25T difference on the cassette or will cutting the chain down on a long cage be fine?

Park tool website find chain sizing guide and use the largest cog largest chainring method. Long cage is fine, I'm still running mine just slaps around a bit more.

have already sized it to suit, just noticed around the middle of the cassette the cage hangs a long way down, so there is less chain engaged on the chainring.

avid CPS mount is doing my fucking head in too!
using the CPS washers the pad grabs too far out on the rotor, dont use them and it grabs too far in. despite it saying it's for a 180mm rotor, i'm going to assume its actually for a 185mm... just using 2 slim washers to get it right for the time being.

If anyone is keen for a ride tonight, Bike Jam are holding a Full Moon ride..

Kicks off at 6pm. Meet at the benches on the corner of Aberdeen and Fitzgerald st Northbridge, just off the bike path.

It goes up the fwy, through glendalough and around Herdsman lake.. Then onto Wembley for burgers afterwards.

It's predominantly single speeds and fixies, but any bikes are welcome of course!

That is dirt cheap for an Ultegra Di2 bike.

The frame would be a generic Taiwan cf job, same as many other more expensive brands.

    Decent wheels on the Triumph.

Also check out the Azzuri Forza Pro Di2 that cyclingexpess cells. Works out to be $2,200 with the promo code "bikes" and gets a lot of good reviews.

Be careful of the geometry setups on cell bikes. Yep go the extra $400 for Di2 you will not look back. Or go this 1 for even better http://www.cyclingexpress.com/cycle/...di2-matte.aspx

Contemplating on a road bike now. Need a new project for 2013

Looking to sell or part out my commuter MTB to partly fund it. Undecided whether to buy 2nd hand, new or build myself. Prefer to build as I have done with my previous two bikes - always find it to be a bit of fun and personalised.

Inspiration would be something like this (happy to even opt for 105/Sora for starters).

Still waiting for my Oury grips to rock up. Used to love them back in the day.

Need a little pedal time before heading bush though. Just doesn't feel right. Am thinking the frame should possibly be a size smaller. Either way will see how I go over the next couple months. Might upgrade the forks, but that's about it I think.

I have a funny feeling once I start heading off road again, I will miss my tiny frame/slalom setup from years ago. So in saying that... Thinking about buying myself a FS frame and building it up. 6 inch travel will be more than enough. Recommendations? Been looking at the Cove frames on CRC, and the specialized Stump Jumper, as well as the giant Trance.... Not planning on competing, just having fun.

for once i was lucky enough to actually have a slight tailwind home yesterday. thought id put the extra effort in to try accomplish my two goals which where to atleast manage 30.0 km/hr average speed over the 31 km distance to/from work and run a sub 1hr time..

managed to achieve 30.9 km/hr average however fell short of my 1hr time by 32 secs... did manage to set the 5th overall fastest time on strava from stirling to moore (21km) which i was pretty stoked with on the mtb

anyone else here who works near the city and rides the length (or good portion) of the freeway to and from work each day?

Putting on wider bars will pull you further forward but the rise and back sweep will also effect how far.

As for building up a FS frame unless you are planning a high spec build you can't beat some of the second hand bargains around. Also both the trance and stumpy are 5" bikes, I have a 6" reign and it's probably a little too much then needed. Bear in mind the new giant trances are 29er only now.

Heh, was pretty cuffed when I got KOM going up Hepburn Ave (that hill from Hillarys upto Marmion Ave). Then I realised that was for the cycle path, there is also a segment for the actual road where guys are doing it in half the time/twice the avg speed

I just upgraded to premium for the extra stuff purely out of interest....pretty addictive, especially when you compare previous rides. Might go get a bluetooth HRM to go with it given they're pretty cheap. Do any of you find the elevation to be all over the place...the same ride several times has given me elevation varying from 10m to 80m.

What's everyone's names on Stava? I'm David Williams (think if you chuck "Perth" after my name it should narrow down the search results).

yea elevation is up the shit on all the rides , even distance varies sometimes by 2-300 m .. ( which is a big variance ! ) i spose it doesnt matter how acurate it is .. as long as its free and plots aprrox times and distances im happy
