gotta watch out for those fixie hoons

    http://www.fixedgeargallery.com

bulk good ideas in there for building up your own fix.. the hot tips are oldschool schwinns, peugeot, raleigh, mercx, fuji, concorde, motobecane etc etc alloy if you can find it but mine's steel and still pretty light
even radder is if you can find an oldschool track frame. that shit is the grail of fixed

Dont like my chances of finding a plum 70's Schwinn Phoon tho... a particular Phoon with 20" bits has taken my fancy... do want!

Go SS with just a rear brake, then at least you can stop without breaking your knees.

fixies are only a fashion accessory unless your riding track.

they do nothing better then a normal bike when ridden on the road, and yet some how they justify a big premium.

almost the equiv of a mini truck for the cycling world

they're smooth, simple and light and if you build it yourself there's no premium

buy a couple of quality parts and you have a bike that rides better than big $$ road bikes. from a fitness aspect a bike that makes you keep pedalling is pretty rad and plenty of fun going for a blast up the freeway

or you could just cash up, join the lycra brigade and be a boring pingpingpingping. isn't being an individual wonderful?

i appreciate the simplicity of single speeds, i own one and have had a bunch of them over the years

ive raced track for years also and loved a fixie on the velodrome, just would never ride one on the rode due to the love of my knees and not wanting to pay for a new rear tyre every few weeks

Shooting for budget with a bit of Balla. Bit of a project build and hands on fun for the winter No serious peddling just to and from work, like Shane says i have no intention of joining the road bike masses and rocking lycras... aslong as i can tuck me pants into me right sock and roll at a steady 15kmh i'll be a happy man.

Cheers RGVFAST, genuine experienced based advice doesn't fall on deaf ears, as Marc said it could be worthwile running a rear stopper if SS prooves too taxxing.

I'm contemplating on something like the below. Mainly because it can fit straight onto a conventional 8/9 speed rear hub.

Bear in mind they fit a freewheel hub - so will need to retain rim brakes.

SS and fixie are different bro. SS is a fixie but with freewheel capability.

I got DJ III's on mine, heavy as fuck, make squishingy noise when there is no air in them but that are bullet proof.

i really should put my street bike back together stripped it for paint then lost all motovation.

Still trying to source a decent 5-6" trail frame. Any frame I do find for a good price turns out to be too small or too big

Anyway...Got a new set of SLX cranks today. Bare metal finish looks porn.

Only problem is the cheap no-name crank extractor I have does not remove my old Deore cranks nor do I have the tool for the new outboard Bottom Bracket. May have to look for something cheap on Ebay.

New Shimano standards requiring new tools FTL

What sort of frame you after? I'll keep my eyes peeled over here. I know of a Yeti Kokopelli that just sold for $300 (with shock!)
