does this sound like the syncro has gone ??

thanks

It is an issue that occurs on select wrx boxes. Putting in some smurf snot will help a little but generally the syncro needs to be replaced. As mentioned a replacement low km box can be had for similar money involved in a syncro repair, unless your replacing the gearset to a stronger variety.

I'm with you, put some redline in it and you'll get a little more wear out of it without any crunching. I'd do this first!

My syncho going into 2nd and 4th was like that.. put some redline heavyduty shockproof in there and she was right as rain.

But then again... what would i know being a girl! lol :P

4th synchro is a cheap fix (~$500 if you know a mech reas well) as opposed to 2k for a replacement box...

STi series box has steel selector forks (vs aluminium in wrx), shifter rods are larger in diametre. If using redline use the lightweight NOT the heavy weight and be sure to change it every 10-15k to reduce any chance of 'gumming' the shockproof oil is known for.

ok ill try the light weight oil first...thanks for the help there explicit
