View Full Version : coilovers
looking into cloilovers for s4 rx7
been told by a few of the shops to look at tein super street
i want something that handles well but still able to cross over to use to drift (well try)
is there any other models on teins worth looking at? or any other brands?
best price i got for the super streets was $2090 is that ok? can i get better than that?

If the car is used primarily for street duties then go for something like the Super Streets... there is a fair bit of adjustability compared to the other, cheaper brands.
However if you don't use your car that often for street, or you don't mind a pretty stiff ride, then save up and try and get your hands on some Tein HAs.
Make sure you have enough to throw the top hats in as well.... AFAIK Tein make camber only top hats, however companies like Noltec make camber and castor adjustable top hats. Best price I've had for these inc. installation is roughly $500.
cheers mate thanks for the info
what are hks hyper max 2 like?

its hard for people to tell you what will and wont suit you as far as ride quality goes. IMO 5/4 seems too soft, as i have 8/6 Teins that are a bit old and worn out and i still find them quite liveable daily, though theyre certainly bumpy and rough and would be uncomfortable for long trips. however, theyre good for drift also and i like their handling/stiffness of the car. 5/4 is probably too soft for drift, but if your only having the odd crack at it maybe you can get away with them.
i really dont know what the cheaper ones are like e.g. G4 etc. however, they do allow your to choose your own spring rates, so you could say 6/5 or 7/5 or something. so its a bit of a compromise between 'drift' oriented coilovers and 'street' oriented coilovers.
as far as camber tops go, id definately recommend getting the adjustable tops with whatever coilovers you get. camber adjust makes a big difference to turn in and sharpness. these days adjustable castor rods are quite cheap, so you could probably buy coilovers with camber tops and then see how you go and buy some adjustable castor rods to increase castor later on if you wish rather than forking out for the expensive Noltec tops which do both themself
