Ok well after speaking to b m tekniks other ideas are being thrown around for the red E30.
So far ideas mentioned are the quad cam v8 lexus motor 1uz and the SR20. However i think i would prefer 1\2jz or a Rb25.
Thoughts and ideas on motors and which ones give the most bang for buck as well as availability of parts.
I would prefer to stay away from SR20's and go for something 6 cyl or bigger.

your on drugs pal, get ya exhaust wheels out.
i would try a vq30
i would put aside grudges, and go sr20
smallest out of the lot, and can still make plenty of grunt.

Filthy sr would retain handling and some enjoyable throttle response, plenty of spares and aftermarket gear

I have a M50 in another bmw and the size compared to original is alot bigger and it hasnt really effected the handling at all.

Sr20 is what i am being told by everyone because of the availability of parts etc ...
If i go with a SR20 where to go to, for bits and pieces as i imagine the engine would need to rebuilt...
Thanks for all comments btw.

depends what u want power wise vs cost
if ur happy with sub 300hp, sr20 be good, coz u dont need rebuild heaps of parts around.

RB20/25 are just as cheap to build up and there are bulk parts around for them too.
