Next time your thinking of buying some VORKs or WOZK RACING wheels, or some ABVANs, or CHUBBY CLUBS, think of these pictures.

THIS is the difference between China spec, and proper Jap wheels.

Not all China rims are bad. You can get better quality rims that arent made in Japan, but the really dirty cheap ones you find for sale are quite bad.

Paying 1200 for a set of 18s with tyres is what I'm talkin about..

or $2200 for 20s!

haha
can get 2nd hand jap wheels for decent prices
plus theyre half the weight and twice as strong

the china wheels weigh a tonne cause they cast them so thick to try to make them strong

No one actually knows why that 33 ended up like that.. coulda smashed a ripple strip hard at speed to do that...

but yeah

Japanese qaulity> china crap

yeh but most jap rims just bend not break

[2_FLY]
06-06-2006, 12:22 PM
If ya have a good look at that rim it looks as though the wheel nuts have been overtightened and somehow cracked themselve out of the rim

Joe
06-06-2006, 12:26 PM
Yep, a Jap rim wouldnt have broken off like that...it would have bent. It doesnt look like its hit anything either, going by the rest of the rim.

Without more detailed pics, I'd say a **** casting caused that problem.

Welcome to 2002. Out of all the rims sold, we've only seen it happen to one.

i dont think anyone who goes on these forums have enough power to break a set of rims anyway,

People say that pic is what you get when you buy tempetyres rims, but yet again i say no one has the amount of force to break any type of rim. The only case in which something would happen (like that pic) is if as said before you hit the ripple strip at a 90' degree angle doing like 180 then bogging it into the grass.

Still .. even then it would be difficult to break a rim.

redline07
08-06-2006, 08:22 PM
I dont think that the point was that they break because of you having too much power...

Joe
08-06-2006, 08:39 PM
Still .. even then it would be difficult to break a rim.

You said it yourself....its very difficult to break a rim.

BUT

If you have shit rims, they can break very easily.

id rather second hand jap rims than new china rims any day.

Slip_
08-06-2006, 11:23 PM
uhhh, didn't you guys know that they're built like that purposely?

they break free at a certain stress rate when they detect your tyre temp is too high... hi-tech sh!t i know, but you pay the price for this special technology.

hardcore racing spec, quick buy all the rim and tyre sets you can before they run out, i hear that a large order has been filled in time for tax return.

TIME'S RUNNING OUT!

(unts will call anything not made in Japan to be sh*t.

I guess china power wheels cant be too bad, Ozzy Tyres/Tempe Tyres must be 2 of the biggest wheel sellers in the country and their product was so sh*t that every 2nd set smashed to pieces then they wouldnt be the thriving business they are.

Joe
09-06-2006, 11:23 AM
This is true, and I said earlier that not all China stuff is bad...but there is some ****in horrible China **** out there that is!

1JZNOSHIT
09-06-2006, 11:25 AM
yeh, i think the overall quality of China is improving though.

engine parts etc are as bad as they were, ie whistle spec coolers and supa glued turbos....

Joe
09-06-2006, 11:33 AM
I just hope that people dont start catching onto China spec engine parts, such as forged pistons and rods....and yes, they DO exist.

1JZNOSHIT
09-06-2006, 11:39 AM
yeah that would be pushing the boundaries a little......

sh*t, but with a fully built 'china motor' with all the associated 'china' bolt ons for under $5K, you could maybe be a 'dyno queen on a budget' for a day :D

minto rims I am getting them ..... you get what you pay for lol

mek
02-11-2006, 02:03 PM
it's not entirely because they are cast btw. I mean casting is going to be weaker than a proper hot or cold forged rim whatever but even some of the Rays wheels are cast. The problem is the quality control and the heat treatments they wouldn't get compared to the Rays wheels.

But yeah...you get what you pay for.

S**T casting... we deal with cast alloys all the time at work.... was machining some the other day.. done the same job many times before... put the drill in same feed/speed... broke the job in half strait out (scarey when its a 2 meter diam fan spinning at groin height). Out of the millions of rims made in china ya gunna get **** batches.... for what you pay they aint that bad... having said that they all look ****in ****... hoolio spec

I think if someone has china spec rims on a dedicated race car they should be shot.

But on a street car shouldn't be a problem :)
