How? When the top tax bracket is 45% if your earning over $150k, I don't see how thats possible TJ.
And for all those whinging about "rich cvnts" get the **** over it. If you paid $50, 60, 70 thousand plus in tax, then I'm sure that the extra $100 odd a week is reasonable.

extra i'll save on tax doesn't quite make up for the extra intrest i'm now paying on my mortgage.
i think 2nd job gets taxed at 50% or some****
Tax, tax cuts and how it all works...
Sometimes Politicians can exclaim; "It's just a tax cut for the rich!", and it is just accepted to be fact. But what does that really mean? Just in case you are not completely clear on this issue, we hope the following will help.
Tax Cuts - A Simple Lesson In Economics
This is how the cookie crumbles. Please read it carefully.
Let's put tax cuts in terms everyone can understand. Suppose that every day, ten men go out for dinner. The bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:
The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh $7.
The eighth $12.
The ninth $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.
So, that's what they decided to do.
The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. "Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20."
So, now dinner for the ten only cost $80. The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes.
So, the first four men were unaffected. They would still eat for free. But what about the other six, the paying customers? How could they divvy up the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share'?
The six men realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being 'PAID' to eat their meal.
So, the restaurant owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.
And so:
The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings).
The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).
Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to eat for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.
"I only got a dollar out of the $20," declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man "but he got $10!"
"Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than me!"
"That's true!!" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $10 back when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!"
"Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!"
The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn't show up for dinner, so the nine sat down and ate without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!
And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up at the table anymore.
I get a big load of ****all, maybe I should have kids or retire?
I had heard that a 2nd job gets taxed at 50%, but more recently that it doesn't, and your tax is just based on total earned. as I'm also looking for weekend work.

Yeah i spose if you put yourself in there shoes and go to uni etc and work/study hard for years to get a killa job that pays well then it would suck paying loads of tax....thats fair enough . I didnt look at it in that way

Government gives small tax cuts - People whinges they aren't big enough, Opposition claims it will increase inflation and therefore interest rates.
Government gives no tax cuts - People whine they got nothing, Opposition claims nothing is being done to offset interest rate rises.
So basically if the government gives tax cuts they get bagged. If they don't they get bagged. WTF do you want?
Sorry I listen to talkback callers for a job.

Thats exactly what i was about to post after seeing the 1st few posts.
Received that in a email lastyear.... :werd:
The tax i pay each year is the total yearly income a normal $400 per week job earns.
But the tax that the $400 a week person pays each year wouldnt even be 2months worth of my pay!!
Why do poor income earning people winge about tax cuts not being enough for them when they pay **** all tax anyway!!!
The way i see it, you wanna earn more money and have $$ to waste, then get a better paying job, something like in the mines etc.
If you wanna live like a poor ****, then dont winge!
The only reason rich people get richer...is they know how to make money! Poor people spend it on maccas/kfc and ****!!!

that theory ( the story ) isnt exactly true. But dont let the truth get in the way of telling a good yarn'
IF the people in question (substitute the man who pays the most with large corporations etc etc) with companies that actually pay tax rather then seting up shell companies that do not a great deal to offset tax liabity.
Most smart business people including the big players you hear about on the television every night dont pay a great deal in company tax as they make their billions work for them. What they do pay in tax is thru everyday items. They buy large amounts of them, and even in that case some of the GST can be claimed back.

People forget tho that the tax system is just as fair for a rich person as it is for a poor person. Rich people dont do anything 'illegal' in regards to claiming things for tax that poor people cant also do....the fact of the matter is, that the poorer people dont have the opportunity to claim such things due to the fact that they dont earn or pay for the same amount of things.
This results in jelousy!
Most people that earn alot of money usually work 13+ hours a day, 7 days a week! All the millionaires that i know, all are work-a-holics and never actually get time to use the money they earn! Sure they have a huge house and a porsche or 5, but they spend all day and all night in a office or having to fly away from their familys every 3-4 days to do business.
Any person could become a millionaire and make a killing and 'reap' in the tax cuts.....but its all at a cost.
The people that are low income earners get to stay home, be with their family & friends and enjoy what they have at home.
The people that are high income earners work more, spend less time at home and usually more time away from their families!!
At the end of the day...be happy with what you have. If you dont like it, then do something different.........but dont start pointing the finger at other people because what they get isnt fair.

theres a table that shows how much you'd be taxed.

Yeah, typical Labor government, makes a killing in taxes, and won't provide any tax relief.
I think the new super changes are good. Maximum untaxed contribution level going up to $50k per year is good news for me. I know where to put my company profit now and not pay any tax :flipa:

Yeah, you're completely correct, however you're looking at multi-million/billion dollar companies/projects there. At that level yeah, they have enough money to hire enough accountants and enough business nouse to keep company tax to a minimum.
This does not take in account well off wage earners who pay INCOME tax.. Sure, if you happen to own the company that is making you well off you can play the tax in a certain way (company owned cars, houses are company owned retreats, etc..etc..) but when you're simply employed by them, different story.

well said. very well put, peolple complain they get taxed too much yet they leave the office at 5:00pm on the dot and work 5 days a week. in other countries (like where i live) i would LOVE to get out of hte office 5pm and only work 5 days a week. thing is i have to travel, work late and work 6 days a week, and you dont get paid any over time..
ppl that earn big $$$ work fukn hard for their money - it takes a lot of committment to get where these people are....its ridiculous the amount of bitching going on about how this tax "favours the rich" - if you want to complain get rich or move countries..
