got a few missed calls from a landline on my phone
the number was 02 8404 XXXX
so i call it back and it reckons i won some 40buck prize right, then tells me to call a 1900 number to claim
then it says
calls charged at 3bucks p min higher from mobiles...etc

so now im thinking what a scam and how the **** did they get my number?

anything similar happen to anyone?

Yup it's a scam. Had the same missed call, different number. If you had entered into any SMS competition it's likely that that's where they got your ph number from. Was the $40.00 prize mobile phone related? Coz that's what my "prize" was.

They warned about it on TodayTonight (not that it's a terribly reliable source of tested and true info or anything!)

Nope don't ring back. You don't have to enter any competition, they just leave you the message. And it turns out the $40 prize is like $40 of mobile phone ringtones and **** or something.

Report to Consumer Affairs if you have the time.

Yep , we get some Indian woman from Sirus asking for the business owner all the time.
I now say *Yep , no problem, I will just put you on hold*

Longest I think she has stayed on hold so far is about 7minutes....

Glad I'm not paying her phone bill. :) :)
