cool car...
do u need a cooler for the S/C? what management are you using?
Kilma
20-04-2006, 11:10 AM
Cheers.
Don't need a cooler, but it will help make the power more constant. Like I said though, it was going to cost a small fortune to get it installed coz too many things need to be moved/chopped etc. Would be better off spending the money on a reubild, or go sensible & use it for a house.
Just the standard computer. I think it has been piggybacked, but nothing special.

dude nice car. How much boost are you running through that V2, is there a big difference between the V2 and V2-SQ?
Kilma
20-04-2006, 11:48 AM
It runs up to about 10-11psi. When I first bought it, I thought it only went up to about 8psi coz I was usually watching the road at that point. Hahaha
I don't know if there actually is a difference. I think one just runs a little quieter.

my old mate had the same setup in a EF V8 ran 293rwp on 9psi
was the work done by mark at MWS ?
mark was talking to my mate about fmics this is what mark recomended to do before fmic. - air intake better less restrictive be good for 2psi or so. swaping to gilmer type belt drive (you setup looks much like my old mates) better piping from blower to tb get rid of that elbow very restrictive. but before that get rid of the EF manifold very restrictive and the tb is only like 60mm. elderbrock make good manifolds for these cars aswell as trickflow. virtually mark said do manifold intake without changing the pulley at all would give hima round 50 more hp .
Kilma
21-04-2006, 03:42 PM
Yeah, MWS fitted it. It is just a very basic kit slapped on.
There is a lot I could do to improve the performance of it, it just all requires money I don't have. The EF intake manifold is pretty damn crap. I would only need to get an EL one and it would improve, but thats just the technology that comes with newer engines as well.
I might get sround to doing something to it one day, but it's pretty good for now.

You thinking that is good or bad?
Dunno how much it weighs. I would assume it is about 1600kgs. Been meaning to take it over the weighbridge, but never get around to it.
It is a manual, but I have only taken it down to the drags a 1 time since it was tuned. Going down again this Wednesday, so hopefully I will have some more times to report. I don't think it has much more in it the way it is though.
I have beaten a new BA GT-P down at the drags on more than 1 occassion (I know plenty of you guys would have as well, but its a little different coming from an 11 year old Falcon), and he was surprised to say the least. Been munched by the F6s though. Had a few rolling runs with the new 300kw GTS down the freeway one night, and pulled on him slowly.

I just expected abit lower 1/4 time with 300hp.. but then i guess at that kind of weight its pretty normal.
If u are pulling on a 300kw GTS thats impressive :) Im guessin it was stock and the older ls1 (5.7)? I have no clue what kind of hp these put down but i thought it was around 280rwhp and low 13s stock?
I certainly wouldnt expect 300rwhp in your lookin (11yr old) Falcon tho! Bet it shocks a few other ppl than just that 300kw GTS. I can see a few imports laughin then getting chopped
Kilma
26-04-2006, 11:27 AM
The GTS was a while ago now, so yeah, it was an LS1 that I beat. I imagine they would pull about 300rwhp as well, so it might have just been where the power is through the rev range.
For example, when I gave Brockas a few runs, he chopped me rolling from 80, but when we took off from 60 & 100 I began to pull on him.

Ah thats pretty interestin! So Paul pulled on you when you ran from 80 but you pulled on him when you ran from 60 and 100kms... thats abit odd as you would of thought the same car would of ended up in front by say 150kms or so!

Nar mate, it was all about who got the jump.
For example, 2 cars, same top end power, roughly same weight, but very different power deliveries.
When Damon's at 60 & 100, the gearing in his car means that his power comes on quicker than mine does (it's in it's peak torque range). At 60 mine takes too long to spool (by this time he's half a car in front) and at 100 mine's at 6000rpm in 2nd which where power starts to drop off in my car.
When we roll on from 80, my turbos take less time to spool and its at its peak torque so I pull about half a car length before we sit dead even again.
I have a 0.3 second better quarter, but that could just be gear changes, although during roll ons I couldn't catch Damon even with the shift kit (ie. he can drive, well, at least smash gears haha). More likely it's the 60' time, 1.9 vs 2.21?
Either way, it's a nice quick car, well maintained, and a switched on driver.
Welcome to Antilag mate.

26-04-2006, 10:04 PM
Got ya, i was too slow to realise u had very similar weight and top end power figures  If it sits next to Pauls boat it must go alright n have decent torque too, mind you the supercharger must give you alot of torque no matter what the rpm's.
Its good to see you've put some $ into performance and Im sure you'll always be welcome on antilag! :boink:

you'd be suprised how much power those dirty boats make jarryd, 300kw ls1's is equivelent to 300rwhp, and my old mans car makes 340rwhp, but thats equivalent to about 250-260rwhp in one of 'our' cars if you get what i mean, the weight is incredible.

They are copies, not originals. They are ANZ FTRs I think in a 17" chrome (imitation ones), and they were on the car when I bought it. You can get them at most mag shops, but I don't think they sell them in chrome.
Yeah, 80 is too high for my 2nd gear, and too low for 3rd, but 60 was perfect for me to get a bit of a jump on Paul. 100 was a lot more even, but I ended up in front by a little bit.
The power figures quoted on all the new cars (when Ford say the GT-P pulls 290kw, and Holden say the GTS pulls 300kw) are all at the fly, with nothing hooked up to the engine (no power steering, no air con, nothing), so they are a little misleading.

How do you for traction with a roll on from 60km/h in 2nd ? my old mates ef just broke loose could step on it at 60 thru it into 2nd then into 3rd resulting in nice power skid... a manual with same power would be alot more fun
Jazza
27-04-2006, 09:34 PM
If you dont drop the clutch it helps to keep traction ;) hahaha
I thought it might be around 300rwhp with the 300kw motors but just said alittle less because i wouldn't of thought there was too much weight difference in the falcon n newer 300kw GTS and he said he slowly pulled which made me think twice. You think the new ls2 297kw would probably be pretty similar in power then too hey?
I remember ur old mans purple ls1, sounded horn! I dun mind the ls1/2 v8s zorsts.
Cheers for the info bro, impressed you spelt the name correctly.. nigga's got skills

2nd will chirp, and can break loose from 60, but the 255s help hold on.
It can be a lot of fun as well if I want it to be, but tyres aren't exactly cheap. Hahaha

Yes, it's a monster post, but it's been a long time since I have updated.
Just realised there aren't any pics in this thread, so here's a couple from when I first bought the car.

It's been a long time between updates, but I have slowly been aquiring some parts, and Ricey updating his thread made me think I should get around to chucking up some more info in this one as well.
After a run back out to MWS and a tune, it came back with the 297rwhp that I ran against Paul's old Soarer as mentioned above.

I picked up a set of 19" rims a while ago. Decent rims are hard to find in eseries offset, so I snapped these up pretty quickly when they came up. They have been sitting on the car for a while now. Been suffering from small brake syndrome ever since (it's on the cards to fix depending on how I go and what I think of the car in the Classic Rally).

When I got the rims, there were heaps of little marks on them. Apparently it is from them oxidising underneath the clear coat or something??

Anyway, they went up to Wheelgleam to get the polish. Can't recomment Simon enough. Takes his time (due to being busy), but top quality job done for a more than reasonable price.

For a car that doesn't get driven much, I have more than a few sets of rims for it (3 at the moment). I have these EB GT rims (bare at the moment, but will get the tyres mentioned in the next part soon), and EL GT rims as well (currently they have tyres, 2 good, 2 that need to be killed).
EB GTs, and the tyres that will go on them soon.

A set of clear repeaters have gone on the car as well to tidy the exterior up a little bit. She won't be single spinning any more either. A Kaaz with 3.9 gears went in early this week. Did the figure 8s to bed it in last night. Never want to do that again. I'll be more than happy to pay the hours worth of labour to someone to do that (half hour for the work, half hour to recover). New rotors and pads all round (hence the questions in the driveline workshop), a general service and tidying up a few things is happening over the next couple of weeks.
A 600x300x100 hybrid intercooler and a Trickflow TFS intake manifold sitting in the shed at home, but neither will be making their way onto the car until I upgrade the heads as well. AFR165 Race Series are in the firing line (if/when I get the motivation/money). The cooler and mani have been sitting in the shed for about 2 years now, so there is no rush to put them on. The other reason is that when they do go on, I won't be far off pushing the limits of the block either (they are only good for ~400rwhp). I have decided largely due to the size of the car, it needs more stopping power before it needs more going power.
As has been mentioned, I have entered in the Classic Rally, and am expecting to come in at a solid 50th place. I don't give a rats though. I'm just in it for a bit of fun. How much fun I have will largely depend how much more money is spent on this car I think. It's a nice comfortable cruiser daily at the moment. If I want to go fast for cheap, I have the motorbike.

nice car man, it's rare to see someone building one of these with some balls
mate has an eb he's building with a stroker etc, but he's running it on gas using an old mixer system which will restrict his power in my opinion, interesting to see how it turns out
ben shoulda done this with his when he had it!
wish i had a car for classic rally, brother wasn't keen on loaning me his xu1 replica lol
nice work man
