Rotational Idle?

I THINK i know what it is but i want to be sure...come someone explain it?

Also - why is it always seen hand in hand with AntiLag? (u see many WRXs with "Rotational Idle and Antilag" - i know what ALS is ...just not TOO sure on rotational idle

Rotational idle was developed to help cool down rally car engines after they had been blasting through forrests etc with antilag on full etc etc.

Basically what I understand is that on every full engine revolution, it cuts spark to 1 cylinder (and each revolution it is a different cylinder), this is turn helps cool the engine because the fuel is not being ignited in the cylinder for that engine revolution.

...what runs the rotational idle? is it part of the ECU? theres not much i could find on it on the internet so thats why im asking,..

Its part of an aftermarket ecu set up

alot of ecus cater for it these days - motec, autronic for example do.

at one of the last antilag meets there was a white R33 i THINK had it - does it make ur idle sound pulse? like u know with a regular car the idle is fairly static - around 800rpm - 1000rpm - this car was pulsing in and out etc...

Yes, but rotational idle will sound a lot lumpier than even the wildest cams.

that white skyline is mine your right it does have rotisery idle but im having it removed cause it sets the car alarm off when the turbo timer is on & the boss dont like it either. :(. i will now make a clak clak clak noise from the diff right before your eyes. :)

u werent at the dyno on friday night by any chance were u? cos i saw a white R33 go buy and vent near me and it had the MEANEST BOV sound i ever heard - it sounded like a fukn synthesizer winding down or something..i think it may have been an R2D2 but im not sure...it was fluttering and makin mad noises...it was a white 33 but i never got to see the driver..

ive heard HKS SSQ's b4 and it sounded NOTHING Like that hey...unless it was a difft white 33 i saw...this one was unreal and didnt have the HKS whistle n squeek to it - it sounded so cool - like a warning system on a ship winding down or something (or maybe i need to lay off the drugs) but yeah man im PRETTY SURE it wasnt the HKS SSQ so maybe it was a difft 33 - defn his @ antilag meet in belmont tho...

My Autronic has this function but it isn't called rotational idle in the documentation. Should make for lots of fun when I have it all set up properly.

Smitler - how much has ur performance boosted since u did the swap from SR to RB25????? more torque? is it faster? does it feel much heavier etc?

also - how do u reckon ud go against that guy from SilWA with the 4.1L Nissan V8 in his sil?

still in topic - the Wolf "rotational idle" is anybody able to tell me the tech info on what its acutally doin - like i dont think it is the "real" rotational idle but i just want to clear my mind on the tech side of things

Shao - next time i speak to ya on a cruise i'll chat to ya about it then - will be easier to describe everythin :D but its quite a bit different in alot of ways

cuz motec/autronic and even link have the ability to TURN OFF the 'rotational idle'

if anything then.. wouldnt wat u have currently just b an effective 'bad tune'
