i do know that the 20 head doesnt go on as easy (or doesnt go on at all) due to the galleries not lining up that bout all i know tj :> go a 26 more hp for less work dude fark the 30 all together. (it was so poor they stuck it in a holden lol) jkn

Its entirely possible RB25/30 is cheaper when done on a budget..... I think you need the non VCT RB25DE head and RB30ET block, but you can use any varities of this I believe

From memory the rb25 head is basically a drop on swap except for a few galleries that fall out of alignment (machine to fix), cc'ing and timing belt etc. If anyone is interested i have a ported/flowed 25det head with all standard ancilliaries (no manifolds) lying around..

lets be more specific -

25 head onto a rb30 in a 31 skyline - would u need to switch to coil packs etc ?

The part i always wondered about, which ECU do you use? Or do you need to completely start from scratch and get after market, or ROM a standard one. And which exhaust manifold, i suppose the rb25det one.

From memory I've seen big aftermarket units used, but a budget option is RB20 ECU (Don't quote me on this)

It's almost like an engine conversion, you adapt all of the ancilliary support systems form the donor head (that should come with it) - coil packs, angle sensor etc. obviously because the rb30 uses a dizzy.. ecu you would go aftermarket, why bother pissing round. Then of course the airflow meter/map - tps thing comes into it depending on which management you choose (you'd only bother to use a/f meter with something like power fc) and obviously the vl/r31 afm is useless. Most of it is pretty straight forward.

i done some homework on this as i had an idea to shove it in my silvia - but there was MAJOR clearnce issues with the bonnet (way more than the RB25 clearance issues)

on that link is a PDF file with a full summary of that thread - good piece of tech information to read up on :D

enjoy

if this happened it would have been in a r31... so ample bonnet room..

i most likely wont be going down this path now... but a mate is interested.
