I have got my replacement engine, just bolted the Td06 to it now we are making oil feed/drain pipes etc and finishing all mods off.
I myself like the idea of the "Lumpy rom" from Hyperdrive. The tuning is done suited to all the mods that you have done but i have mates telling me to pay extra and go the power fc,personally im stretching the budget allready and i have heard only good reports on the tuning from hyperdrive.
From what i worked out the power fc is about $1500 ish then you have to have it tuned where as the chip/ tune is $880.
Any opinions?
Please no bagging any companys on this thread
power fc is a better option for what workshops are trying to charge for rom tunes.
you can also then get your car retuned cheaply by any workshop really if you get a rom tune then put some more mods on you need to pay for another rom tune all over again.
Now if rom tunes were better priced this wouldn't be the case but they are so yeah...
Power FC's can be found very cheaply these days they really are awsome value for money.
dunno where you got 1500 for the unit from either X speed only charge 1800 for unit install and tune or 1300 for unit supply only I think.
If you are going to get the unit and install it yourself you can get them for well under 1k

Not quite true Damian.
ROM tunes do severely limit choice of workshop , especially as AJ is on holidays but the new software that Lucas is bringing out may change that.
You won't have to pay another $880 for a retune , just hourly dyno time which is no different than any other aftermarket computer tuning.
I would like to know what you think a rechip tune should really cost ?
well I think it should cost what ever the hourly tuning rate is plus the cost of the parts when a new rom and socket is required.
When I spoke to you last you were unable to offer retuning of an existing rom tune you said a complete retune was required.
Just to be clear here I'm not trying to hang **** on individual workshops here I'm making general coments on the the pricing of a service as I was last quoted on it.
I understand that workshops are not charitys they need to make money to stay open.
If you can provide rom retuning at an hourly dyno tuning rate then it sounds a lot more reasonable than having to pay $600ish as I was quoted for a retune I belive the other workshop providing rom tunes charges more than $600 for a rom board and tune.

plus tune
oh ok I was not aware of that hmm thats a rite barstard isn't it. My de jetro cost me far far less than that so I figured a normal power fc would be aswell.
ROM tune is sounding better and better for him.

We wouldn't have quoted $600 for a LUMPYROM retune as Glenn must have tuned it prior.
We would have quoted maybe $600 for a BIKIROM retune as we haven't seen the car or done the tune previously.
Based on having to purchase a rom board , set the car up on the dyno, resocket the computer, do at least 6 runs on the dyno with pulling the chip in and out each time based on an hourly dyno rate of $140-$175 ph then I think $880 is reasonable.
The only way to shortcut the system is use and existing tune that will get close but that has cost someone some money for us to get and is classed as intellectual property. :)
A lot of tuning , ROM or otherwise , is based on the tuners experience.
See how long a new tuner takes to get a proper tune and be thankfull you aren't paying for them to learn.
As you said, not bagging anybody or having a go but people sometimes get a onesided view of how long jobs can take.

SAFC or G Reddy Emanage are your only real options due to it being an R33 and auto.
I belive Xspeed have had success getting power fc's to run on auto skylines don't quote me on that though.

another option if you can find someone to tune it.
End of the day each has its merits and its downsides.
Speak to the people involved, and make a choice dude.
