Anyone know the legalities of installing a 4 point bolt-in half rollcage in WA?? Does it have to be made of certain material, ie ChromeMoly or Steel ?? Wondering if pits would like holes drilled through the floorplan & running bars through the parcel shelf ?? Is it possible to get one permitted with out registering the vehicle as a 2 seater?
Otherwise i'll be removing the cage everytime i get defected and trying to cover up the drilled holes :dizzy:

i have a half cage in my gtr, that is permited by the pits, and its still a 4 seater.
if u are doing it for andra reasons, it has to be steel or moly, and certain wall thickness etc, and particular joins etc.

Yeh i'm already aware of the andra side of things, just curious what the requirements are on the street? Can any andra approved half cage be permitted ? Does it matter if its welded in or a bolt-in ? Does it have to be padded ?
I think an ANDRA cage has to be weld-in..

i have a andra spec weld in half cage , yes it has to be padded. but yes my car was then rego'd as a two seater.
enquire with welshpool pits tech section for road legal details.

Lucky bastard :)
Was at the pits last week with my GTR and
Half cage, 2 seater only, license no problem on A reg
Full cage , no way, B Reg only ( rally cat style license with the appropriate limitations )

A little off the topic, but when registering your car as a two seater with half cage is there any law permitting how much trim you need to have in the rear? eg parcel shelf, side trimmings and carpet etc?
Hoping to rego mine with a rear stripped out as such..

Lyndon , I was told to remove the rear seat and mine is also missing the rear 1/4 panel trims next to the parcel tray which he said was no problem.
I am reasonably confident yours looks like it will be ok , except they may ask for something between you and whatever your carrying in the boot.

Doubt you will get the front legs passed though.
At least yours is easy to unbolt, mine I had to remove the dash as they went through the dash and ran down the front a pillars :).
Fun.... not.

Bolt-in cages are fine for 10-10.99sec passes, which will definately do for me. Also depends on the type of joins used for the bolt-ins.

Snowy, give simon travligini a call at Allfast in malaga. They just did a street legal bolt-in half cage in the young guys VK there. Looks the **** too.

Well i just called Welshpool Pits Technical Section and they said it's possible to get a 4 point bolt-in half cage permitted, but the vehicle then MUST be registered as a 2 seater only, as it restricts the access to the rear doors in case of emergency. Didn't mention anything about having to be padded, guessing it wouldn't matter if the car was only a 2 seater as all the cage is behind you. Damn it, looks like i'll be removing the cage everytime i'm defected, and trying to cover up the evidence :P
Also enquired about a boot mounted fuel cell, and they said a big no no, which sucks seeing as new Monaro's have the fuel tank in the boot. Stoopid laws.

Yeh Gav but even if it's 'street legal' they said it'd have to be registered as a 2 seater, which means less bitches packed in the car, screw that haha. I'll just keep andra happy, and get used to removing it for the pits. Only considering one now as i found one for sale at a reasonable price, wouldn't really be needing it until mid next year when i get a nitrous kit anyways.

have andra changed the rules now , allowing a bolt in cage for 9.99 - 10.99 acceptable ?
when i did mine andra specs were weld in only , which they still passed at the pits for me. the forms you fill out from the tech section show the way the cage is meant to be made with certain angles & dimentions to allow head space , & then from shoulder height upwards & any where your head could contact with the cage has to be padded.

I know its differant for em because I have a convertible, but when I was at the pits I asked about a rollcage (even though I had already removed my 6-point cage before going down rofl) and they told me the ONLY cage i'm allowed in my vert is a 6point (or more) Full cage and gave me 2 massive books of paperwork to fill out requesting it from the goverment then stating I'm using it for motorsport, etc. etc.

Whilst on the topic of roll cages, my cage is missing the rear cross bar as pictured. Does anyone know where I could get one fabricated?

When registering a car as a 2 seater (when it's factory a 5) do you have to simply remove the rear seats?? Anyone have any links to examples of different styles of cages? ie 4 point, 6 point etc etc

You need to remove the seats, and remove the seat belts also. Any holes in the body then need to be filled somehow. When I did mine I just put the bolts for the seats back into the holes.
