Got a funny problem with my RB20 S13. I'm pretty sure it's the power steering pump.

I turn the car on and a second after it starts it makes a loud whining/scraping noise. It stops if you turn the wheels full lock??!

It did it intermittantly for a while and now just does it all the time. Steering is heavy and ****...goes from powered to non-powered etc.

Do i have to replace whole pump or is there an easy fix?

Also, On idle (particularaly cold) the car has a bit of a bump in the idle like it's missing...just a low pop...i believe this is a common RB20 thing.

How do i fix it?

Thanks! :)

Sounds like loose or worn belt to me. Idle problem could be plugs.

I thought belts too but i checked them and they look fine...on there a bit tight but.

If it was belts then surely it would continue all the time and not stop when wheels are at full lock?

missing maybe from the coilpacks wearing out or a plug is loose

mek, I have the exact same problem with my power steering pump, and that's after I've had it re-conditioned. Aparently its a sticky pressure release valve or something...
