View Full Version : Health insurance - 2019
Just got a letter from HBF kindly telling me that as of January my policy is costing more, whilst getting less and my excess have increased 750 percent....
Time to make a move.
Who's using what these days?

Im with Hbf and still find it the cheapest,
Keep threatening to dump it and just take the tax hit but after the wife had a few surgery's over the last year and i see the bills what HBF pay i'm still in front after 20 years of premiums

HIF / https://www.hif.com.au/
although the crazy thing is with ALL premiums keep going up... basically we are covered for less than we ever have been , at a higher premium and with (for some things) massive claim excesses......
its the little tricks where they get ya as previously with something like dental ortho you could claim up to a certain amount per year so your could split payments/claims over multi years.... they wised up to that ole value caper and now most will have lifetime claim of x amount... only thing is x amount is usually half of what the items ie braces cost....
I often think , imagine if our car insurance was like health insurance . you have a car crash and they get the quotes and you get paid 2K after paying an excess and you are still out of pocket by 6K..... which is why many wont even have health insurance to start with...... crazy thing is I can pay less excess and no more to pay when I crash my car than when I crashed myself off my Moto some years ago......

As a health provider I can only recommend three funds
HIF/HCF/HBF
They are all non-for profit, WA based funds. Everything else is rubbish.

Im with HIF, had finger surgery 3 weeks back and been to many appointments, wasn't covered for as much as I thought I would be, nurse was telling me though if you don't have private cover a lot of the surgeons wont even see you so good to still have it.

With Bupa, but looking to switch seeing health insurance is a joke. I'll have a look at these, thanks!

With HCF. We have claimed 20x the cost of the cover this year alone. No issues whatsoever
