Hey all,
I have no idea about 4wds let alone diesel 4wds.
I have seen a 2007 Patrol DX for sale. $17,000 manual and with quite a few extras.
3.0L TDi.
It has done 286,000km.
Is this too high? Things I should look out for? Should I steer clear?
Any help would be appreciated!

I'm also looking for something to Tow stuff with.
Seems to be a lot of information out there but hopefully antilag experts can help? The Nissans suffer cracks when Towing large loads? (not the Patrol but the Narvada) The colorado is just crap?

def get a mechanic you know and trust to look at it... also does it have a service history.... plenty of moderate km cars like this will have had no diff or gearbox fluid changes since they were under warranty... also has the injector pump ever been touched.. friend brought one recently even with a decent check and within 6 weeks up for new/recond injector pump...
so I would definitely have some dosh aside for unknowns in first 6 months (but then that pretty much applies for any second hand performance car or 4wd ).... some reading for homework:

somelinks to diff between 4.2/3.0 http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/showthread.php/106338-Nissan-patrol-3-0l-TD-vs-4-2
hope that helps....... .
p.s: don't listen to toyota people they'll always try to throw you off your game ...

Mate of mine has this for sale and has replaced all the usual things that go wrong on these. Selling due to buying new Navara. His old man has it listed and will be taking calls for it at the moment due to him being at work.

they don't call the ZD30 engine a grenade for no reason ;) get a pajero instead unless you want to do fully sick 4wding, if you do then get a landcruiser

Just get a Toyota and be done with it...

x2.
Just sold my Paj for $10k, was fully geared for towing. 3.2 diesel auto is a beaut and much nicer to drive around town than a Patrol/Cruiser.
thought I would reply here rather than make a new thread.
A family members 2012 Patrol 3.0TD, just got torched, so Im going to help him find something else.
What are the 2.5TD D40 Navaras like? Reliable driveline? He might want to go for another ZD30 Patrol, but since he wont be able to spend $28k on this one, I think a really cheap one would be a bad idea - hence the D40.
Just using it for travelling up north and a bit of offroading.
thanks
I got mine new in 2014, just done 75,000 in it now. I enjoy it, it's a nice enough car, I have an ST but because mine is the series 8 and the last d40 model I got the full Bose stereo, dual climate control and heaps of other STX interior upgrades.
I have a tray full of tools which i hardly unload unless i'm on holidays, and I generally get ~ 800 a tank around town, going to Perth and back ( I'm in Australind ) I generally get a bit more. The 6 speed manual I find is good. They have a 70L tank I'm pretty sure, and my screen says I average 8.8l/100.
I have had mine on the local beach fair few times, It has enough low down torque in 2nd to have no worries. I haven't taken it in the bush, as I have my Jeep for that.
I also really like the well body setup, where they have the rails on the floor, and on the sides of the tub, and on the back of the tub with the moveable tiedown points.
are they generally a durable engine? I guess anything is better than a ZD30 right?

From memory the earlier ones suffered chain breaks, but I do know they did an upgrade at some point. Mine has the double row chain, but also is the 145kw 450nm variant with the variable vane, electronically controlled wastegate and some other thing inside that moves the blades.
You want the spanish built D40, VSK is the code, usually can tell by the antenna in the middle of the roof. They have a different chassis, better interior and the better motor. The Thai ( MNT ) has a thinner chassis, and you can't swap any accessories in between them like bars, wheels etc.
Anythings better then a hand grenade in a large fat body !
