Good morning gents, well and ladies.

For the first time in my 35 years, I have been using an electric razor I got as a gift.

It's a low end Remington, and whilst it does ok, it does lack of a bit of oomph and is a bit rough on my mo line.

Before I go and drop big pennies on a better one, anyone have any recommendations? - what to use, what to avoid?

Rather a good shave over say battery life - don't mind charging the thing often if needed.

From memory there are two types, Foil or Rotary.

I've always used foil, i love it, i can shave dry and get a close shave even with my thick hair and sensitive skin.

Ive had good run with Braun, make sure the head can tilt.

Anything Series 5 above is good, go to local shaver shop, talk to them, see the benefit of the different models. I know the more expensive ones have self cleaning modes etc which i have never used so not sure if its worthwhile or just wank.

Braun Series 9, shavershop is having a sale on them atm till the end of the month.

Also it will depend on your hair and skin type, if you have coarse hair the 9 Series is the best you can get.

Most of them now also do dry and wet saving

Razors..

when you go through 1 razors in 2-3 shaves ... electric shaver save the $$

Not that it helps the OP, but, DE Safety Razor. Cheap as once you're set up and better shave than a disposable type. Next step, cut throat.

Braun Series 9, isn't cheap (shaveshop deal was i think $450 for the one with the cleaning station rrp is like $600-$650)

Wait for an e-Bay 10% or 20% off sale. They occur quite frequently.

See, I tried one of the Braun series 9 previously and couldn't even remotely get a decent shave out of it. Perhaps it's the type of hair I have, but razor works so much better for me. I've always been tempted to try one of the rotary styles, but just haven't been able to justify the expense when my experience with electric shavers has been somewhat lackluster previously.

Personally, go straight to cut throat. With the availability/quality of disposable cut throat razors (Feather does a great system), there isn't an excuse as you no longer have to learn to strop/hone your blades.

Braun also have a 60 days money back policy. If you don't like it just return the shaver to braun and they will refund you 100% of your purchase price.

I picked up the series 9 on the weekend; so far so good, the only area i find it not so good is under the neck, had to go over it with a razor.

So refund? Clearly not 100% satisfied otherwise you wouldn't have used the razor?

Not yet, it was about week worth of growth (hairs very thick and coarse) so i expected it to struggle, i normally use a trimmer before using razor when i leave it that long.

Plus side was it didn't irritated my skin which is rare as i have very sensitive skin.

I see how it goes after few days worth of growth, and if it still doesn't give me a good cut under the neck i will return it

Can you live with the 5 o'clock shadow? if so I recommend buying a beard trimmer & just shaving on shortest setting (normally 0.5mm), no more expensive razors, no ingrown hairs & no skin irritation.

That's an interesting idea

Nah I'd want it shorter than that if possible.

Plus I am not bald yet!
