View Full Version : Bluetooth headphone hotness
With my move to a pixel 2 phone,
I have now entered a new world of no headphone jack.
Need some Bluetooth headphones
What's good, what's not?
Ideally 250 max spend.

Skullcandy HESH 2
Great sound, sturdy and battery lasts forever.
Only downfall I found is they become uncomfy after a long period of time (Anything over 1.5 hours or so) and the recharge port is a pain in the ass to get to.

Plantronics BackBeat pro2,
http://www.plantronics.com/au/product/backbeat-pro-2
I tried a bunch on at the place where the planes take off recently and these were the best by a mile, the Sennheisers that they had there had lost a channel and were rocking mono.
Battery life so far has been really good and you can run them BT or with 3.5mm cable

Plantronics BackBeat pro2
I'll second that - bought a pair for my wife who wears them daily at work and they've been great. Have put up with a fair bit, being thrown around etc and they're going strong.

Been there done that, adaptor works great but ergonomically it's woeful once in pocket.

Surely if going to bluetooth, noise cancelling as well? Bose Quietcontrol 30

I’ve had a set of Sportzbeatz wireless for 3 years now, battery still goes for ages, I can run in them and they stay in no worries, they still go for $99.

These are the updated version , I got mine from Dick Smith, not sure who does them locally in a shop.

+1 for plantronics.
Bought the basic ones for gym use and was greatly surprised at durability/battery/sound quality!

QC35 would have been my choice, depends on where TJ uses headphones. Alas, both north of his budget.
I can spend more just not wanting to especially when I don't get to try upfront.

I have a brand new set of Beats Solo3 Wireless you can have for $250 if you like. I had a pair replaced under warranty, but I needed a set of headphones before I was going to get them back from Apple, so bought a new pair. 40hr battery life and they actually sound pretty good. They don't have noise cancelling, but they do have pretty decent isolation.

Most stores don't have in ear headphones on display because of hygiene reasons - over ear no worries

I was blown away by Bose in-ear. Recommended them to a mate, he was also blown away also. QC20's though. Kinda wish I got the bluetooth ones in hindsight
Yeah a lot of people are telling me the bose ones are great
*little tj nod moment
Know the state manager so should be able to tee up a test

Not what you're after but thought I would post anyway.
I got these (on special at JB $149) - https://jaybirdsport.com/en-au/freedom-bluetooth-headphones.html
Was skeptical about the bluetooth earphones, but I'm a total convert now. I love mine, where them everywhere. The Freedom's don't have a great battery life, but haven't found it too much of a problem. Sound quality is excellent and I accidentally put the battery clip through both the wash and dryer onsite and it still works.
8/10
+1 for Jaybird gear.
Got the Jaybird X3 for train commute (so I don't look like a wanker wearing my QC35's)
8+hr battery life is great and definitely lives up to the claims - plus they've got a cool EQ app for iOS/Android.
Sweat and moisture resistant for your lunchtime fitness routines.
Bose QC35's are my office jam.
Just found out gf has the jaybirds so will test them happily

Plantronics Backbeat Sense or Sense Pro !
picked up the Backebeat Sense today...comfort, features and function A+....SQ, best described as OK. would be hard to find something else for the price that does the same i would think.
My corded Sennheisers of similar size are leagues ahead in SQ (but has a cord )
Got the freedoms to use. GF wasn't using them as she doesnt like how they sit in her ears and she got them for free so a win there.
10 minute test went well so I'll give them a whirl tomorrow

Bose QC35.
Had my pair for over 1 year now, heavy use (every day at work, travelling and many of plane rides without hearing screaming kids).
They still look, feel and battery life is as good as new.
If I do buy I think I'll go with Bose but the Jaybirds worked pretty damn well just then on an hour walk.

didn't see this thread when I posted mine, also I nthe market so may as well highjack a little and ask the question here. mods can delete my thread if they want.
is there any benefit of going for completely wireless buds over going say the ones that run the wire between each? pro's and cons? what should I go for, also best option for a mainly gym environment?
Just used mine for an hour, didn't seem to bother me with the wire between both.
Can see me losing them if buds only

Depends how active your gym routine is.
I can run with my wired Bluetooth ones and they hardly move except the odd occasion of sticking to my sweaty neck and the movement slowly pulls them out, but if the churr cuzzy bros can work out in full beats by Dre headphones, then you should be fine.

I have a pair of these TJ. https://www.cnet.com/au/products/bose-soundsport-pulse-wireless/preview/
Battery life isn't that great but the sound quality is good and feel/fitment is awesome.
Bought mine on special from the airport in Tokyo, so unsure how they are priced here at the moment.

I have the Sony MDR-1000X's and I chose them over the Bose QC35's. They sound better and the noise cancellation is better. They have a new mk2 version out now, worth taking a look at those I reckon.
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/headphones-dj/headphones/bo-play/bo-beoplay-h5-in-ear-wireless-headphones-black/318772/
ive got a set of these and they are amazing! sound quality is great, battery lasts for around 4-5 hours at high volume, the cord in between is quite thick but the in-ear part is very comfortable. if you can justify the price then it might be worth a look.

Have you been down to see the guys at Headphonic yet?
Get all my gear from there, and they've usually got a decent range on hand.

be-speckled peeps.
What's the go with good bluetooth headphones? I find that over ear usually crush against my glasses and eventually give me a headache. I much prefer noise cancelling bigger ones. Also hoping they will help keep my ears warm in winter.
Bud type earphones also fall out of my ears pretty easily. I just have fucked ears I think. very sick of my cheap wired sennheiser mm30i constantly falling out of my ears because my scarf, jacket, or collar catch the cable and rip them out.

I've had Jabra Sports, Jaybird Freedom 2, and Now Have JBL Reflect
Jaybird only gave me about 10 minutes out of the 'on-board' battery and the external battery was too heavy and would pull out the earphones/knock against me while running. I also found that if i left the external battery on the headphones it left the green LED on and drained the battery very quickly.
JBL are good as they're light, haven't fallen out of my ears yet at gym or running. Only issue I have is that they don't seem as loud as either of the other two.

Umm that's not right.
I use the Jaybrid Freedom 2's all day every day. I get 4-5 hours out of the inbuilt battery, and the clip (external battery) adds another 4-5 hours to that. If you're only getting 10 minutes out of a charge then your set is faulty.
The Freedom's have great sound quality and are ultra light & small, which means they don't fall out and are very comfortable for long term use. I've tried quite a few and these have been the best bluetooth headphones I've used.

Yup I got 4.5 hours at high volume out of first charge, impressed me.

The Bose Sports Pulse + i posted earlier have a silicone spacer that fits inside the ear to hold the earphone in place. I've used them for boxing workouts and they didn't move at all.
Had been looking into bluetooth headphones for a week or so wading through review after review when this thread popped up. Short listed jaybirds due to afew recommendation off this thread.
Was flicking through the jbhifi catalogue yesterday during work and what do you know, jaybird freedom 2 on sale for 149buks. It must have been a sign.
Thoroughly impressed with the earphones, fit is comfortable, sound is nice and the app is great. I have always toldyself that i dont need to spend more than 20buks on earphones but as i age more and more stuff makes me grumpy, like shitty corded earphones. Thanks for the recommendations lads, great earphones and glad i broke my own mold tlbuying them.

I'm using Jam Ultra true wireless earphones, very impressed with the fit and sound. Get around 3 hours of music playback then you just put them back in the case for a claimed 10 more charges. Case even has USB out to charge your phone If you're an Iphone user with short battery life :D
Try these: https://shop.nuheara.com/products/iqbuds
More expensive than others but they are a "smart" headphone. Firmware updates keep rolling out making them better and better. Recent update included better algorithm around blocking wind noise, like a different set of headphones when outside now.
No contest comparing these to the $250-$300 competitors which do next to nothing by comparison.

I've only seen them for $229 - even on the weekend JB wanted $229 for them. And online. Was it a local store special?

They were 149 last week

GF bought beats 3 yesterday, took them to gym with me at lunch - $229. Actually sound very nice, and clip over ear nicely.

OK, I bit the bullet and bought QC35IIs late last week.
Was getting so fucked off with my shitty senheiser mm30is, cable constantly catching on coats, jackets and scarfs, always popping out of my ears. It also constantly dropped sound from the left ear bud unless the plug was on the right angle.
These new Bose things are the absolute fucking tits. Don't have to adjust the volume as I enter and exit public transport, comfortable and amazing sound quality. Well worth the ~$500 outlay.

Need a set of over the ear wireless headphones, doesn't need to sound cancel but won't hurt.ping

See if you can get a good deal on some of the Sonys ?
I had some decent ones until they got stolen. Went with the bose QCs now but the sound from the Sony was pretty rock solid for its price point.
Fuck, should have added ok for the gym so sweat/water resistant.ping
