It's that time of year once again so here's the run down on RW18 before it goes "public" elsewhere. Now there's a few things that are still being worked on and aren't 100% confirmed so while I'm going to post them below I've highlighted them in italics so you know it's not 100% but is being worked towards.

EVENT OVERVIEW
Dates: Friday 2nd March – Monday 5th March 2018.

Key Changes for RW18
- The event will continue to run in a limited capacity during RFDS interaction periods with 1/8th mile racing while the plane is in the airspace overhead inbound under the Airport Officers direction. Once the RFDS is on the ground the event will resume as per schedule and switch to 1/8th mile racing when the RFDS starts up to depart under the Airport Officers direction and switch back to the original schedule once the RFDS is outbound and clear of the overhead airspace under the Airport Officers direction. The racing stops for safety grounds and that’s it.

- RW is currently working with the council to plan, design and construct a more suitable return road and staging lane system with the view to have all traffic confined to the western side of the airport and a “One Way” traffic system in place to reduce traffic management risks inside the airport. So there's no more cars doing U-Turns in the pits and the route back to the pits is shorter. The standard of the return roads and staging lanes is of critical importance to me personally as I'm sick of it being a dust bowl / trashing cars and damaging shit. (No prizes for guessing who's car got some under body damage at RW17 now he's mad about it...) Don't expect sealed tarmac roads as that's honestly millions of dollars but properly prepared and graded service roads are a key principle of our commitment with the council.

- The addition of a “Premium Cash Days” entrant class will aim to attract more muscle car & dedicated race car entrants to the event with the ability to join the RW field during the ¼ mile sessions while only needing to comply with the Cash Days regulations not the full RW technical regulations.

- There will be a key focus on improving the off track attractions and amenities. With this in mind Racewars is working with the Capitol Group (Metropolis Fremantle / Capitol / Amplifier / The Edison) to create a stand-alone licensed RW18 Party Zone open all weekend and culminating in a Saturday night live music performance. The City of Albany is working to introduce a “Taste Great Southern” food & beverage marquee showcasing the best the region has to offer.

- RW will be actively seeking an increased number of trade stands including a “Kids Zone” with child friendly amusement options. An improved level of basic amenities such as serviced toilets and waste bins will also be a focus.

- An increased focus on utilizing technology and increasing the ability for all attendees to interact with the event should be considered subject to it being financially viable & prudent. Items being considered for discussion at this stage are.
o Each entrant each RW18 entrant to receive their own profile page on the RW site with the expectation being they should supply more information about the vehicle and entrant to provide more context for commentary & general spectators.
o A QR / Scan code on entrant decals to enable people to scan the vehicle on the day & be directed to the entrant’s profile page.
o Video feed to onsite screens from the “hot end” of the track.
o Improved PA & commentary hardware allowing greater access and freedom of movement for the commentary team around the airfield.
o A stronger FM transmitter able to reach the far end of the airfield at a minimum.
o A drivers briefing video / cartoon that can be watched and accepted by the entrant in advance of the event outlining essential safety information.

- Ancillary (jovial) competitions on the sideline of the main event. One thing that has been suggested is a “we help mow the grass for the council” and have a ride on mower race run during the weekend in front of the spectators… The potential for escalation here is profound (some nutters will drop V8’s or big bike motors in ride on mowers for sure). I shit you not this is actually actually a thing...

Yes it's gone up, yes we know people will be unhappy with that, but after another year where the RW team has wound up torching our own cash we're breaking even or we're not doing it.

Event media coverage as always is a key driver for entrants & sponsors ect ect ect. The live feed videos from RW17 were seen by over 1,000,000 people and I'm sure we can all agree the Motive even wrap up video is the best one we've had in a long time so expect a proper partnership with Motive DVD and it's partners for 2018. Also expect to see Speedhunters once again along with Forged Magazine and who knows who else will turn up.

The tech regulations are basically the same as they've always been, technical inspections will be basically the same process as last yr. Everyone hated tech but it gave us a quality field with hardly any mechanical safety issues over the weekend which was unexpected / amazing.

That's all I can think of at the moment as I'm sitting in my office at some shit tip mine in Botswana but I hope to see you all there in Albany in March 2018.

There's no minimum speed required but there's not going to be spots for cars that won't do anything interesting.

The idea is entrants will be expected to provide us with a lot more information about their vehicle that previous years. This will allow us to ensure those people who've got something that is worth VMAX (even if it's a bit left of field and maybe not the quickest car on earth) don't miss out on it compared with someone in say a Golf GTI, SS Commodore ect ect with a tune, pipes and fk all else.

With fast series dead at the motorplex now. I'm just going to setup/prepare the car for hopefully 320kph.

Pulled dash out & all the original wiring, switching to haltech elite 2500 to control everything (fbw,boost,ecu,trans shift)
Also converting engine to parallel cooling, Much tighter converter so im not sitting on 6000+ rpm for 13 seconds again.
may or may not have turbo exhaust exit out the hood... weight saving there as a bonus i guess. might look at some aero mods.

315 tyres for sure, the 275's i had to pedal too much.

then i also want to take my ute with it's twin turbo setup & see if i can touch on 300 with that.

With the entrant profile pages, Would it be pushing the boundaries if people were able to log in and edit their own page?

It could give people who are Building/prepping cars for RW a place to go and post updates about their lead up to RW. Then people could follow the builds and see just how much is involved in the process of getting the car to the track and all the hard work that goes into it.

Racebook so to speak. but only for car content. I can see the possible issues with people posting dumb shit, ie; Nudes etc, but a submit for approval could work.

Most people run their own page anyway if they are at all interested in keeping a diary log - why not run a link from your competitor entrant to it? The volume of messages, requests etc has almost made the FB page a full-time job. Adding this would be a potential nightmare.

I'd suggest most of the really serious entrants will be relatively hush hush anyway (as hush hush as you can be in this little country town of ours). And not to be harsh, but they are the build logs 90% of people really want to check out - not a sea of dok doks and evo's / turbo falcons / SS commodores / drift shitters that aren't "big $ builds".

As much as i still love my blowers, they can't compete for all out horsepower compared to a large single or matching set of of twins. Only real down side to them is real estate in the engine bay, but killaboost manifolds make a whole range of kits to suite vt-vf. Maybe go Twincharged? you got the cubes & existing blower setup already. GT55 sized turbo for that top end pull.

Website is getting it's annual overhaul so when ever that's done. After last years entrant database melt down and the subsequent clusterfuck behind the scenes there's a hell of a lot of work going in to the portal (none of which you'll notice most likely) but it's time consuming so at this stage I don't see it being all done until August.

Last yrs regs are basically the same.

The council will be responsible for any traffic management outside the airport gates so they'll make a plan for the spectator parking areas. I don't know what that will be but honestly they'll do a much better job than we would of as they have teams of people who do this stuff day in day out for a living.

We'll also look at some form of shuttle from the spectator gates to the main area as it's a bit of a hike for some according to the feedback we got post event.

A few things to raise from our end.

We're still working on giving each entrant their own vehicle & driver profile on the RW website. This means we will be looking to get more information from competitors mainly around their vehicles and their goals for RW18. If we get that bit right we will look to link that to QR codes on the vehicle decals, live timing and so forth so people can more easily follow the progress of certain vehicles.

Mowerwars is dead for RW18 - I can't be fucked with it. Don't PM me and whinge about it, you pingpingpingpings had a chance to help make it happen and no one did fuck all.

The RW Bar & Bocce Center is coming along reasonably well. Don't expect a Gatebil style massive party zone but if everything get's signed off it will be 1500-2000m2 of food, beverages and off track entertainment which should add to the vibe. If people treat it like a B&S ball and get shitfaced & run riot A - They'll get booted + B - It won't happen again + C - I will deploy one of my underpaid disgruntled jihadists to kill you for fucking up my life long dream of having a bar!

With booze being served drivers can expect additional scrutiny and BAC checks will be rolling across the day along with other access management protocols so people aren't smashing cans then going racing again. I'm personally 100% fine if a driver wants a drink with lunch but they'll need to blow 0.00's again to get trackside and that's non negotiable. Get caught trying to sneak back on track without re-testing and you're done for the weekend.

Scruit is going to be to the letter of the law again. We've asked for consistency in their determinations and a consistent high standard. Our underwriters take comfort from the fact we put so much effort in to inspections and do fail cars that don't meet the standard. It's one of the reasons we can run RW like we do, so while we all hate the headaches scruit causes it's a necessary evil.

It looks like there's some serious interest from over east and a few cars that will certainly be in contention for the title. WA will need to step the fuck up and defend it's honor! We can't let them beat us on home soil!

But please keep the hacks, call outs, tip offs, whispers, PM's and general banter coming on the RW & RW Radio pages. Riggs & Huggy are only going to get better at this VLOG caper as they do more of them so get on board, like the page, share the page and help them make something of it. I feel like in future it might be a good idea to post up the regs and the FAQs a week or so before entries open instead of just having just a count down timer, so we can all learn the useful stuff like trailers now being extra fiddy bucks before the mad scramble to secure an entry.

I assumed the "support vehicle" meant an additional vehicle like my wife's car or something to come into pit area.

Obviously was not a thing last year and majority of entrants had trailered their cars in so I can see this becoming a bit of a headache for you guys.

The support vehicle fee came about for a few reasons.

1 - We have to keep more of the apron around the main airport / JET A1 bowsers clear which reduces our amount of usable space on the apron.
2 - It was a cluster fuck last year (our fault as much as anyone elses) with cars and trailers, tools, fuels everywhere. Which is also in breach of our insurance conditions and generally a hazard /nuisance.
3 - Because a good number of people bought things in with them in the support vehicles that were banned and left evidence of it everywhere for the council inspectors to see we got our arse kicked and need to spend a shit tonne more on security this year in order to keep our event access.

So we decided rather than ban all the ancillary vehicles which is what was suggested to us we will let people who absolutely must have their trailer and tow car with them airside pay $50 for the privilege with those funds going towards the additional security costs we're going to be lumped with. If you have a true street car there's 90% chance you don't need a trailer and other cars airside with you so the fee is an incentive to drive the thing in and not waste space airside.

Once the dust has settled, we'll be able to add it to your order/entry via another Credit Card transaction.

There is a limit of 1 x support vehicle (trailer included) per entry.

standard entry entitles you to entry for vehicle and 1 x driver.
platinum entry entitles you to entry for vehicle and 1 x driver 1 x platinum spectator.

Anyone additional that arrives with you on the day will need a spectator ticket.

I think we got numbers & entry system about right this year. There's 8 x Platinum Club applications left in the system and enough Standard Entries left to mop up anyone else so no one can complain they missed out this year.

Well done to those who got in and got their Cash Days Premium + Cash Days spots early. We've not done any marketing for that at all really and I think when we do they will get snapped up rapidly. Means we can properly plan / manage CD on the night a heap easier. Plus people who punk out have already dropped their buy in so the cash kitty get's a top up.

General sign up's are still coming in and I'll speak to the boss people (Jess + JME) but I think we'll be getting to the point very soon where any remaining spots & future vacancies will issued on application only. All killer, no filler spec.

I think it's one of the best lists we've had. A few shitters, plenty of meat in the middle of the list and a good collection of wild gear at the top of the tree along with a few odd balls to mix it up again.

I'm sure the JME & Jess will chime in at some stage but thanks for the vote of support and confidence in the event. It's great to see the event has strong support and people who want to get in, sign up and go racing with us.

He's reasonably confident that it will be back in action for RW18 and they suspect the accident may of been caused by an axle breaking or similar as he was only on a warm up lap and wasn't giving it the full beans.

The regs are there as a guideline not gospel with the exception of any safety criteria which are 100% non negotiable.

Read a little bit further along and you'll see a provision for Demo Class which is what allows us to let people get a bit more creative.

For 90% of entrants with genuine street cars these rules suit and apply fine. For the rest there's Demo Class or specific exemptions on items with the onus on the driver to convince the tech team it's safe.

We try to let you guys go hard and stay out of the way as much as we can. Always have, always will.

FWIW side pipes out the guard will suck idling in the staging lanes. You'll gas yourself out; but proper sidepipes venting behind the drivers door = NFP.

This year was my first year competing so I am still learning how the team/scrutineers approach these issues, I was shitting myself at scrute due to the huge level of fear mongering going around about hard it was to pass etc but when I got there I rolled through and not a single issue raised.
I was in my not very clean looking 10sfor10k 180 which has no where near the levels of shiny goodies or brand names as some, but it is a properly built & solid mechanical package, so I was pretty happy with the outcome.

I soon learned most who were complaining was because of actual dumb shit (leaks or loose shit) so I do think I get where you are coming from.

So in total we're sitting at 262 entries for RW18 before the computer said no more, with sponsor cars and so forth still coming on it's going to be a big fucking feild

It's a pretty decent list, I'd go as far as to say it's looking like the best one we've had so far without giving too much away.

Cash Days seems really dead which surprised the shit out of me if I'm honest. Jordan only got 15 Cash Days Premium sign up's and 8 normal CD sign ups. I suspect it will pick up closer to the event though with a bit more promo. The Hugmod is 100% confirmed as the #1 star of Cash Days and I look forward to Damo & I teaming up to hack the shit out of him on #nonresidentradio when he lines up for a run! (Tocchi you mutt where is the Crapri!)

Another thing I noticed is that only 15% of all entrants are N/A with 65% turbocharged. Seems we love boost.

Anyways reserve list will open up shortly if anyone with a killer car missed out they're welcome to jump on it and we'll see if we can help them out as we get closer to the event.

The Sprint is going to be capped at 60 cars as well so when they go live towards the end of November expect them to be gone rather rapidly.

*Depending on how many people make it through scruit. There's historically always been a disparity between sign up's and people who make the event so don't stress it won't be so big you won't be able to get enough runs in.
