Hi all,

Here's my situation:

Bachelor of Commerce (Finance)
Bachelor of Science (Applied Geology)
6.5 years professional work experience as a geologist at an underground gold operation
I'm at the point now where I'm desperately wanting to get out of FIFO, back to Perth and to actually make use of my finance degree to do so

Would really appreciate some guidance, as this will be a fairly significant career change for me and I don't currently have any contacts in the finance sector.

Cheers,
Dan

what about working within the finance department of a mining company / exploration company may see a benefit in someone who understands finance and the actual operational aspects?

Also a geologist working at a brokerage firm would be blessing, you would be able to understand drill results and different area far better than any other analyst?

Try and get a conversation with these guys > http://www.mckinsey.com/careers/search-jobs#?cities=Perth

Friend of mine went from being a drilling engineer to an "industry consultant" and is basically set for life.

Larger accounting/finance firms actively advertise for engineers, some even have graduate programs, their problem solving skills, and mathematical abilities are always in high demand.

Op re: finance, what Damo has suggested is a valid and extremely viable option, just be prepared to take a hair cut.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, that gives me a few ideas to work with. Just need to put some more work into my CV, as it needs to convey transferable skills and make me stand out as worth having a chat with, as previously my resume was essentially set up for geologist roles...and wouldn't help my chances with a career change.

I thought we had already discussed this? You need to go work for a company that sells rocks.
