View Full Version : Racewars Perth -> Albany Cruise Friday 3rd March

thommo

Since a bunch of people will be driving down on the friday for racewars I thought it could be cool to head down as a group as a lot of people are probably driving on their own and/or with friends.

Meet would be in Armadale for a departure of around 7am to be in Albany for lunch at a local pub. Armadale will be the main intersection whether coming from further up north or most south of river people.

Cruise would be no bullshit, just purely sensible driving, dont want to be getting pulled over for silly stuff and tarnishing the event before it even kicks off.

The Route

Meet point
Brookton Highway truckstop will be the meet stop in Bedfordale on Albany Hwy (roughly street number 752).
It is 950m after the PUMA roadhouse where you will see the turn off sign for road train assembly area

From my end this is a very very smart option, a group convoy is a smart idea.

There will be a visible Police presence on the roads down to and around Albany all weekend. The cops have been very welcoming towards us and our event but still they've made it clear that they will not hesitate to deal with people who don't do the right thing. (And they've told me they'll pass on details of any incident linked to the event if anyone does anything stupid, not that I'd expect anyone in here will)

The Earl Of Spencer is in town and does a great counter meal. If you're in proper fat fuck mode stop at the Mt Barker Bakery and get a pie on the way down. They're some of the best pies ever.

We'll also be having a catch up in town on Friday night down on the waterfront area most likely. Real casual shit, just a meet & greet + a bit of shit talk before we turn in for the night. If you're down we'd love to see you all there.

We will be leaving friday morning getting on to Albany hwy from Jarrahdale rd in a 3 car trailer convey ourselves. I think that day is going to be very very busy heading down to Albany. We will more than likely have hand held radio's on in the 4wd's so will be making use of them. haha

Thommo Bedford hill Road train assembly area. It's on Albany hwy 5 or so k up the hill.

Large area away from mainstream traffic.

I suggest Williams for a sausage roll.

Buckets spot for a piece and cake

Spencer for a counter

Night club in town for shit heads.
Track for skids.

True. Get someone with a boss transmitter at the front to relay any traffic hazards to the following cars who might only have cheapies that can't send very far.

thommo if you're happy to we'll whack up an event on the RW facebook page for this cruise. There may be a few entrants/spectators who'd like to take advantage of a convoy. It certainly adds some confidence and safety for the trip given its near on 5 hours.

I'd advise staying on Albany Hwy the whole trip.

There's 98 octane at Williams / Kojanup / Mt Barker (BP/Shell/Caltex are enroute as are some Uniteds but no E85 until Albany) so the diversion to Katanning isn't needed. Also means you'll avoid a meet and greet with the Katanning coppers. ;)

As mentioned all 3 convoys are now live on FB.

I had an email from the Traffic Sargent for the Great Southern Region this morning commending our efforts in this regard and thanking us for being proactive and "encouraging people to do the right thing".
It means f*ck all in the scheme of things but it's just another little thing that helps give them more confidence in us not being a bunch of morons but a serious, professional and respectable bunch of enthusiasts.

A reminder that there will be officers patrolling Albany Hwy and because it's a long weekend there will be an array of roadside photoshoot locations set up as well if you're speeding.

The relationship has been positive. Now it's up to all of us to keep it that way.

The two cars I'm bringing (one is family) are still aiming for the 7am cruise, but don't wait around, we'll catch up and then drop to 100 and tag along.

Also, thanks for the offers of the helmets. I don't think the family will be that keen to do continuous runs so shouldn't need to borrow one for long. It's hugely appreciated though.
