The old hand brake is on my case to take a holiday.
Sick of Bali
Anyone been to Fiji, Vanuatu etc can give me the heads up if it is worth it?
I have been to Fiji.
Probably not as many things to do there as Bali but its a good place to go relax and the people there are great. Food is also good.
The only real issue is its a 10 hour flight from Perth and I don't think you can go direct.
Depends what you want from the trip.
Singapore, KL also relatively easy options from Perth, both are good in their own way.

another little island definately on the hit up list....

thats right Tassie..... you fly to melb.... (let her get shopping out of the system), while you chill at cafe's and pubs and hold the odd designer bag...
you then go on overnight cruise (across the ditch)......
then stay in as many quaint little places as your heart desires while you drive one from this collection

personally I would go with the FORD Shelby GT-H 50 Anniv edition..... "(as being tassie the roof may be a better call than a convert')

Went to Vanuatu for two weeks, great for a trip where you just want to put your feet up. Also the Volcano walk up was damn good!
I wouldn't go though if looking for shopping or a night life.

Either I read it wrong or the car hire is America only considering all the pick up points are there :P

Fiji is great, bit of an effort to get there but worth it in the end. Some great snorkelling/diving in the area. I've never been to Bali so can't compare.
We did El Questro earlier this year, something a bit different but it was sensational and a much shorter flight than Fiji.
Broome is another great option if you want a beach getaway.

Done a month in Tassie - fucking mint.
Done Broome plenty
Dont want to travel more than 6 or 8 hrs if possible - could stretch 10 if its a must (must be pissed!!)
budget - reasonable, but not crack dealer expensive
Wife hates the cold
Two weeks length.
Going to do America in 2018.

Could try a cruise ship.
Friend from work wont shut up about them his tip was always cruise home so you can buy as much as you like at each of the ports and still get it home. He has been on heaps and says hasnt had a bad one yet. It convinced me anyway next time i plan a holiday i want to try it.

Could give Thailand a crack, it's fairly cheap... Fairly close and great fun (way better than Bali). Lot's of different places that can appeal depending on what kind of holiday you want and the food is amazing. A stop over coming back in Singapore for a few days would also be recommended.
Vietnam is also meant to be awesome, Cambodia if you're a little more adventurous!

Cape Town.
If you're happy to fly SAA you can fly direct from Perth to Johannesburg then down to Cape Town or do what I did which is go straight to Cape Town via Dubai (bit of a gin around but Emirates flights are worth it)
Cape Town is cheap, utterly spectacular in terms of scenery, climate and location, I always felt completely safe and think it's well worth a visit. I stayed in a very nice suite at historic 5 star colonial mansion with a Michelin Stared restaurant, open mini bar with superb local wines ect ect for $250 AUD a night. I went to top notch bars and restaurants didn't hold back at all and struggled to go over $70 AUD for a 3 course meal with plenty of great booze.
Have a look at some of the stuff I posted on FB a few weeks back while I was there and if that is suitable PM me and I'll flick you some links to look / book.

Done the cruise ship last year but being a country boy, I found it a bit hard being locked up on a boat most of the time
Was great for a few days, but after two weeks, I'd had enough - plus you get to be a fatter kunt on ships as there is food everywhere.
Hear plenty of Vietnam being nice - could be worth a look.
Buckets - no can do sorry. Ex step father is South African and too much shit gone down to hear that accent every fucking day. Id rather neck myself - sorry!

I did 3 weeks in vietnam with a couple of mates (one of which is vietnamese). Was a great holiday but i think most people would struggle and not have the same experiences without speaking the language unless you go to the touristy spots like nah trang.
Eitherway its a very cheap place to holiday.

Mate -Driving Tassie was awesome.
Over around Queenstown etc was a blast.
Plenty of fresh sea food and beer was pretty cheap.
A month wasnt long enough to drive it all.

Depending on budget, and I know you said you wanted somewhere close, but Europe is actually a good option. I went for a week this year for a cousin's wedding, thinking it wouldn't be long enough, and ended up having a great time.
Emirates flights were easy and comfortable, and while you basically lose a day each way the arrival/departure times were good so i dont remember feeling jetlagged.
In terms of budget you can offset the cost of the flights by visiting one of the cheaper countries like Spain/Portugal/Greece or Poland. Food/drinks/accomodation/transport are stupidly cheap so you can live like a king.

^Europe is on the map for after America.
My wife is from Scotland, so want to spend a fair amount of time here as well.
I plan on working hard for 5 more yrs, then winding right back, and have good length trips then as my sons will be off my hands/ self sufficient (hopefully!!) by then and I'll be debt free.
Until then, two or three weeks is the most I can snatch at a time.

Vanuatu if you are a game fishing and diving fan
As said above isn't a huge night life but is good duty free shopping
Is a few high quality restaurants, few solid expat bars which have decent nights
Plenty of resorts to sit on an empty beach and drink cocktails if that's yours thing
Could occupy 10 days or so with tourist activities fairly easily
Jan and Feb is Pilbara heat on steroids, may to august is the sweet spot weather wise
People won't try to rape you on buying stuff like Bali etc
