Hey guys,
This event will be open to everyone and will be a good opportunity to test your car legally, the details are as follows:
The event will be on a Friday or Saturday night (small chance it is a sunday night) and will look at starting at 7 and running until 11.
You DO NOT require a CAMS license however you will need long pants and shirt, helmet and a road worthy car. Also it will be a strictly NO DRIFTING event.
We require a minimum of 20 people confirmed before we can set the date, there will be a maximum of 30 places available.
The night will cost $150 per entry which could include food etc with a 50% deposit being required 1 month before the night.
To make it easier for me to keep track of who's interested please don't pm me instead send an email (so i can quickly and easierly contact those interested when needed) to brett.williams@fluor.com. Have your name, the forum/club your from (as this will be on more then one forum), your forum nick and also what night would be best suited to you included in the email.

uh, just how exactly do you propose to have a track day/night at waneroo without a cams permit?..
do you have some form of magical insurance?..

The event is being organised through Track Skill who run the V8 driver days at wanneroo hence no CAMS license is required...

$150 is enough to buy you a day pass, one month CAMS license, and a one year membership for the WA Sporting Car Club on a normal tuning day. Or $190 for all of the above with a one year CAMS license. After that, it's just $40 per run on a tuning day. Not particularly good value then, unless something else is offered.

night time is offered for something different. if you can get the price down i might be interested. i do track days with wascc so yeah.... price is an issue on this one. would be good if you don't want to do them all that often though

I understand the situation with the WASCC however if your planning to do this more often then yes i agree it is a good arrangement, but for those who might be wondering if they will enjoy the advantages of the WASCC then this i think is a good start. There will more then likely be a sausage sizzle which would be free to compeditors, entry for spectators would also be free. Besides your paying more then this to drift so i don't see this as a bad price.

i need to know a rough date before i can commit. going away and what not. if you can give me like a 4 week period that we're going to aim for then i can give you a yes/no answer..... probably the same as everyone else.
685WRC
24-11-2005, 12:25 PM
Fair enough, it will most probably happen in January however it wont happen the weekend of Motorvation so there's less then a 4 week period for you... I'd probably say though it'll be the weekend after motorvation as i know myself that i'll be preping my car for motorvation the weekend before and i wont want to be interupted by the track night...

Dont know where you get ur info from.. but theres no such thing as a '1 month CAMS licence' ... or a 'day pass'.
There is a single event licence.. covers you for 1 event per calendar year.. level 1 --> $20.
or a full year licence depends on what events you are doing:
level 2 speed--> $85
level 2 non-speed -->$46
Level 2 Single event --> $40
and I was under the impression a years membership to WASCC is up around the $200 mark...
so this isnt actually too bad a deal...

I believe the WASCC license starts at $260 per year which on top of that you'd still need to get your CAMS license so you'd be looking at $300 + with is good for those who wish to do it on a regular basis and can afford the running costs ie brakes and tyres etc... As i have stated the price of this event could come down if there is enough numbers, so you might have some spare change on the night...

UPDATE
Due to motorvation being on the 14th and 15th of January and people preping their cars the weekend before, it has been agreed within the event organising group that we will aim to have this on either the weekend of the 20th - 22nd or the 27th - 29th. This also dependings on people getting their deposits in ($75) approximatly one ~month before those dates. I hope this helps people to determine their status for the night.

Cause the last time i looked on their website i though i read that the lowest yearly membership fee was 260. Hence 260 + 82 (l2s) = 342
EDIT: just looked on the WASCC site
Silver: $215.00 Plus $35.00 nomination fee for new members

UPDATE
Track time will be ran as follows:
5 cars will be on the track at one time, you will be out for 5 laps this includes your entry and exit laps. So in total you will get 3 full laps which by the end will be pushing the limits of your brakes unless they are a 'race' setup. You will then join onto the end of the line if you wish to get back out there asap.
If you wish to be timed then this can be arranged, also there will be at least two driving instructors there if you wish to get some pointers on how to attack the corners.
Cheers
Brett
P.S. Don't forget to email me if you are remotely interested in competing.
Sully
24-11-2005, 07:01 PM
aah. sorry mate but if its only 3 hot laps at a time then i'm going to bow out. i'd rather go to a wascc day. however this would be a good opportunity to get to know the track if you've never been before, don't have to worry about some sub 60 second monster screaming up behind you :) . should be a good night but its not for me.
good luck with organising it!

UPDATE
On the night their will be commentary. There will be a spectator fee of $10 per car load (everyone in the car MUST be wearing a seat belt), at the start of the night there will be a drivers briefing which will then be followed with everyone doing a 2 lap stint with an instructor (after that you can have the instructor take you out in your car if you want to see what your car is capable of). Everyone will be getting timed and time sheets will be getting posted every half hour.
Sully
25-11-2005, 07:12 PM
is there any chance of bumping up the lap limit from 5 to say 8 or 9? or is it strictly governed by the organisers?
was out at wanneroo on a wascc tuning day today and did a few 5 lap stints.... just feel a bit cheated coming in so soon!
sounds like its going to be a good event all the same. if i don't compete i'll probably come down to watch. do you mind if i chuck this up on euro car club of australia or is it strictly where you've posted it up only? we have a few track nuts over there with a selection of fast porsches and bmw m cars and what not.

UPDATE
The night will start out with a driver briefing followed by one of the six instructors occompaning you in your car to show you the lines of the track. They will be there all night and would normally cost $77 per hour, after the few laps you can ask them to take you out in your car and show you what your car is capable of if you wish. The instructors are part of the Track Skill team and are also qualified race drivers.
We will then get into sending you out in groups of 5 for the 5 laps, the number of laps might be able to be increased as the night goes on.
Included in the cost is your entry, dinner and the $20 CAMS insurance which is done through Track Skill.
There will also be official safety officers on hand incase of any accidents.
As i've stated before, there will also be timing and commentry during the night.
The maximum number of cars for the night is now 40, so get your mates together and take them on in a safe and controlled environment.

The purpose for this track night is see how much interest there would be in running it on a ~2 monthly basis. If it ran smoothly and everyone was jumping up and down to enter then we were going to put it on the calendar as a regular event. However due to lack of seriously interested people this event is looking like being permanently cancelled. We currently have deposits from 5 people but for this event to still happen we require 20 deposits by the 3rd January 2006(extended from the 20th December2005).
I will let you know the status of the event on the cut off date and for those people who have sent in their deposits they will have them refunded.

Just so people are aware, this event is a go and will be on Friday 20th Jan as previously mentioned.
Compeditors are required to be there by 6pm intime for scrutineering etc, spectators should be there by 7pm to the opening action. Dinner for the compeditors will be around 8-830, whilst this is happening there will be some officials running around the track to give the croud something to watch.
I will get up a proper event schedule by the night.
Brett
I think a few people need to apologise if this actually happens ....

I will be interested in attending the next one, I just didnt have the funds ready for the current event.
I have driven the track as part of the Motor Magazine thingo a few years ago when Ford introduced the BA mode, although i was driving a ford It was still very fun. I think i got upto about 160km'h down the straight (short track version) before getting it sideways on the last corner entering the straight. Being in a ute with live axle definetly helped the slide. Talk about idiot proof.

All in all it was a great night and very well organized, great variety of cars which was good, timing equipment was the same as used on the V8 Supercars.
(BTW, I beleive Car numbers 6, 14, 1 & 3 had instuctors driving them so fastest laps no really correct ;) )

short track is more technical and requires more skill. i have driven ( riden ) the long course on my motor bike and i reckon the short course is better.
seriously reccommended. instructors were excelent and love what they do. some were laughing and giggling all the way round the track.

Yep only short track, as a guide to the times, the lap record on the short track for a HQ Holden is 1:02 seconds, and I believe 57 seconds for a 49hp Formula Vee
The back section of the track is not 'Lit' so short track only for Night events, as much as I enjoy the Long track the short track is 'Far' more technical and challenging ;)

21-01-2006, 06:33 PM
also just thought i would mention that i was second fastest on the day and that wasnt it funny that the first 2 cars to spin off also went on to record the quickest lap times. cannot wait to go back and practise a bit more and improve my lap times .

yeah the short track is pretty tricky. the right hander to cut back across the track and down the hill is hard to judge because its a blind corner. haven't figured out the best line or braking points yet. although it is pretty damn easy to flick the car hugely sideways through there :) only had 2 or 3 track days on the short track.
my times for the long track are in the 1:13.xx area at the moment. haven't timed the short track yet.
i prefer the long track but thats mostly because i don't know what to do with the short track, and my gearing is all wrong for it

I was impressed with the night and definately reccomend people do it, only downside is they still didnt sort out the fast cars, slow cars situation, I only got about 3 decent laps without passing people in, bit pissed off but eh you get that,
and also with those laps times I'm guessing a couple of the fastest times are the instructers ones not the actual owners of some of those cars.
oh and also i got in trouble for drifting, what the..... do you know how hard it is to drift a 4wd. I was just trying to stay on the track :)

I didn't say I was too good for the short track, you did. I simply stated I'm glad I didn't go, as I was under the impression it was going to be the long track. I didn't read it was going to be run as a short-track venue. Feel free to point out where I may have missed that however.
I'll tackle the long track in Feb with a FPV drive day :)

it was mentioned somewhere but i was following it on 3 different forums so it may not have been mentioned on this one. i was not trying to sound funny ( but rereading it it does come out that way) but if you do get the chance do run the short track dont avoid it because you think its no good. some of the turns are really tricky especially coming out on to the first straight where it is off camber. once my tyres melted i just couldnt go round there without a large four wheel drift which sounds fun but the off camber corner makes it really hard to hold without a violent flick back into the concrete wall.for the hairpin you are still coming into at around 100 clicks so its still very fast on the short course.

270rwhp. 1590kg zed. Coilovers, 225/50/16 Toyo Proxes R comps, rear upper control arms , pineapples. Standard rotors, Bendix Ultimate brake pads.
I'll also mention that I did the 57.2 with a cracked rear rotor - from the edge of the rotor all the way through to the inner edge of the pad surface. Normally would not have run that, but its competition and it was on the rear! haha
