Anyone found a scantool that will read ODB2 and pre-ODB?
My MY11 Liberty is ODB2 of course and I can read that with my current scantool.

My GC (2000 STi Version 6 ecu) ecu doesn't appear to be as my current scanner (below) wont work with it, yet it has the ODB2 plug.
The scanner claims to read all ecu's from '96 or newer using protocols SAE J1850 (VPW, PWM), ISO 9141-2 (ISO), ISO 14230 (KWP2000) and the newly released ISO 15765/SAE J2284 (Including CAN Protocol).

Want a scantool that will read both, or even just one that will read the GC.
Any ideas/suggestions? Is it just a shit scantool, or is there something I am missing?

Scan tools only good as the data loaded for them to read. I have 3.

I also have a cheap ass Swaben one that reads data off my car that a mates 10k snap on on fails too.

So i think it's a case of making sure their compatible to the car.

My Supra is year 2000 and I use an OBD2 reader, Torque App had to have a certain string written in it though to be able to understand the output as it isn't entirely OBD2 compliant.

Have you tried hooking it up to an application like that and seeing if anyone out there has figured out whether it needs a string added to interpret the data? I looked to the UK for info on mine for example.

Cheers for the info boys.
Have organised to give it a go with a different scantool over the weekend.
See what results and see if I can figure out settings for TorquePro.

I thought that OBD II was a standard that should allow any reader to work? I was thinking of getting a simple one of ebay thinking its compatible with any car post 96?? I cant remember the year

OBDII is only a standard for extracting data that is emission related only.

Anything on top of that is data compatability between the scanner and the car.
