Well what can I say. We're back from the dead.

We’ve been kicking on in the old RW thread for a while now so given it’s getting close to the official launch period it’s time for a new thread and a bit of a rundown of the main points before it all goes public.
Motul Racewars 2017 is the event we’ve always wanted to run. The host location is by far the best of its kind in Australia, with Albany and the Great Southern Region being as beautiful as it is well resourced and well positioned to host the event while providing all who attend with the level of services they deserve. There’s even E85 on pump in town which is more than can be said for just about anywhere SOR in Perth!

The runway itself is again above and beyond what we’re used to. “The Goat Track” was 1540m x 18m of lumps, bumps and not for the faint of heart at big speeds. It was a lively strip and it will always be warmly remembered however as people got quicker and quicker we were always going to outgrow it. Albany Regional Airport is 1800m x 30m and built to handle aircraft up to Boeing 737’s. While Temora is longer at 2120m it’s also close to 3000ft higher with Albany being just 233ft above sea level. Given the cooler climate and the low altitude our density altitude coupled with the surface should go a long way to helping some of the big guys run some proper numbers.
https://scontent-mxp1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/t31.0-8/13558855_1005485962906284_5136229533834929607_o.jp g
The facilities at the strip are just as impressive as the strip itself. The airside section of terminal will be open over the weekend so there’s undercover seating, proper washrooms and even café there for all to use on top of the facilities we’ll be bringing to the event. (The VIP area should be quite impressive as well from what I can make out). The other thing most of us will welcome is grass, it’s everywhere and should make a welcome change from the dusty days of old.
All of the above I’m sure you all already know by now so I’ll cut to the important stuff.
After being asked for years to permit Drag Radials (and somewhere to warm them) we can now finally sign off on it and give people the tyre choices they’ve been asking for. Again this should help the guys wanting to run numbers and also help us keep the strip in good condition. You’ll hear “Spinning isn’t winning” a fair bit so basically if you’re just keen for skids Gazzanats is on the same weekend and just up the road and you’re probably better off there.

The popularity of Street Outlaws gave us and the crew at Forged Magazine a bit of an idea. As such we’ll be having a knock out 1/8th mile “Cash Days” competition under lights on Saturday night where just like the TV show pretty much anything goes. I’ve honestly no idea how it will go but I’m keen as hell to see how it all unfolds.
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/qIqPBOq1CuE/maxresdefault.jpg
Sunday will play host to the first Racewars Show & Shine. The Great Southern Region & beyond are home to some outstanding cars and while they may not all be cut out for ½ mile passes down the strip they’re well worth having a look at.
The main game is as always the ¼ mile & ½ mile roll on racing & the headline 1000m VMAX Challenge. By the time we ran our last event we basically had this reasonably down pat so aside from a few changes to suit the new location it will be familiar to anyone who’s been to Racewars before.
The City of Albany was insistent that we ran over a long weekend so with the RW Monday being a public holiday we’re in the process of locking in a deal to run the SRT Sprint a few in here will know from the Speed Event Series in the Albany Industrial area on Monday morning if anyone still wants more seat time after 2 full days on the strip. Once we get everything locked away we’re aiming to launch the sprint to anyone who wishes to enter so you could very well just come down for the sprint if the straight line airstrip stuff isn’t your cup of tea. The best thing is even if you’re all done and dusted with racing after Sunday, then there’s still plenty to see and do in town to occupy your day before you head home.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hn3-_1Dhz4
There’s also going to be a bigger focus on the social aspect of the event. We’ve done a deal with a local historic hotel to become our official off track HQ for the weekend so when we’re not at the track we’ll be there making the most of what time we have spare. We’ll also have a proper awards ceremony and unwind session at the hotel after racing wraps up on Sunday.
https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/06/67/59/a0/earl-of-spencer.jpg
If you’d rather spent time with the family or avoid hanging around the guys you chopped up and hearing about how you only won because you did a “Shannon Start” Albany has you covered. There’s an array of options for every taste and budget and plenty of family friendly options for partners and kids to go see and do during the day if they’re not keen on being trackside all weekend.
http://www.nationalanzaccentre.com.au/sites/default/files/NAC-exterior.jpg
The National ANZAC Center is a must.
It’s not been easy to bring this event back to life and I really think this is as good an opportunity as we’ll ever have to run the event to standard that opens its appeal up beyond the dedicated group of guys who’ve underpinned the event previously. We’ll never forget those who supported us in the early days and we’re glad to reward your faith with the event we think you deserve.
Sorry if this all sounds a bit wanky but honestly I know the entire team is pumped for this in a way we haven’t been since the original back in 2013.
I’m lead to believe the official launch is imminent so I’ll leave the finer details for then. Regardless stay tuned.

So fucking keen to get out there again, and really looking forward to the new venue as it sounds excellent! Might even check that my speed limiter is actually disabled this time.
Also looking forward to a new windscreen banner - still rocking the 2015 one. Only had one officer suggest I take it off so far but not sure now long my luck will last!

Lurking for the night-time antics.
Saturday night is going to be at least 10pm before we close the track (not too keen on running too much later in to the night as we gotta be back at the track by 6am) so that won't be a pissy night for the team and I assume it will be a similar situation for many of the competitors who'll be on the bag first up in the morning.
Sunday night will be the night to tip in a few for anyone not participating in the Sprint on Monday.

This is the best move you could have ever made i reckon. Albany accepts and welcomes car/bike events.
Perfect match for Racewars, participants and spectators.
Fat air
Quality track
Quality accomodation,restaurants, pubs etc
So much to do for family members not so much into the cars etc.
Thumbs up boys!

bit early/hard when entries haven't been opened yet?
Also with this particular part of the event, will the same cars entered for the event be the only ones allowed. I'd save the race car for the 1000m. But i'd keen to enter the awd tow car for 1/8 mile drags.

Both Cash Days are the Sprint are run separately from the main "Racewars" event. The RW reg's are far too restrictive for the Street Outlaws style 1/8th mile stuff so there's a standalone set of reg's for that and the Sprint will at this stage be run as a CAMS event.
RW entrants have preferential entry to both and both are open to non RW entrants.
At this stage I've got 3 cars booked for transport down, I'm expecting several people to bring something for the strip and something for the sprint based on the feedback so far so it would make sense in some ways for the serious drag guys to have slicks and tricks for the 1/8th mile then radials and longer diff ratio's (or a different car) for the Roll On's & VMAX.
Not being officially entered yet hasn't stopped Huggy from offering to donate $500 to both Damian and myself. :D

Sprint is good fun, only thing that lets it down is the loose gravelly start in the SRT yard and the transition from the yard onto the road
These aren't as noticeable in sedans but suck in my car and that is why I don't run it anymore
The rundown to the hairpin is fast and the hairpin is tighter than you think, you then carry huge speed back down the straight towards the chicane, exit the chicane into a off camber 90 degree left that has a change in surface midway and makes it trickier than it looks, short run to a left handed that opens a little and a run down to the finish line with a slight kink in it, after the finish line you need to be hard on he brakes to stop before the reentry into the SRT yard

I ain't scared. And I'll look at buying a set of radials in the knowledge that it will most likely wind up being the last straw for the current gearbox but irrespective of that I'm looking forward to either collecting $500 or seeing Braptism alive. Decent outcome either way. Fuck I might even go see Yoda and get the big boy boost turned back on just to be sure.
I still don't like your chances of making it though. ;)

Are the max amount of entries staying the same?
What happens when they are all sold, possibility of more being sold?
Buckets
21-08-2016, 06:55 PM
Numbers are as they always have been for RW. The Outlaw field for Cash Days is capped for now but we'll see how much interest we get from street class entrants and adjust from there if required.
There is scope for a small amount of entrants on top of what we've always offered but RW can only "cope" with a certain amount of entrants and still maintain the fast free flowing event people are used to(plus deal with the logistical mindfuck that Scruit can turn in to). On paper it makes sense to sell as many as we can but what we worry about is turning it in to Powercruise where you spend big money to spend all day in line waiting for track time. We'd rather have less entrants and deliver more for them than deliver less to more entrants. Provided the show's good for the spectators with plenty racing all weekend plus a few other attractions we're happy.
It will be interesting to see how we go for entrant numbers and where the numbers come from. I'm predicting there will be a marginally different demographic than previous years.

Yeah have given it a new home. Have recently put some new seats in it to better match the original Brides, had the injectors cleaned and E85 compatible fuel hose fitted.
Davies Craig thermo fan controller installed and just a general service with good fluids. The gearbox is a weird one as with street tyres on it there has never been an issue.
The fluid that was put in it years ago is not the recommended so will change that soon, otherwise i'll run it till an issue arises or i get bored and feel like pulling it apart.
Will probably start a thread to document the car in detail as well as the CA powered 180 i bought for parts but am now building as a sister car.

We're focusing on getting the last bits in place lined up so we can officially launch / open entries. (And that's getting proper soon) Once we get that bit out of the way we'll move on to engaging volunteers and so forth.
If people are looking for something to do over the upcoming long weekend in September (24th-25th) we'll be down in Albany at the The Great Southern Street Machine Association annual Show & Shine.

I believe a certain 32R may be in attendance to give the locals a taste of what to expect over the RW weekend. I'm personally looking forward to a whole lot of metal bumper goodness and plenty of big cube, big cam old school thong.

When we get around to launching proper you'll see that Clarke Tyres in Albany are getting behind us and sponsoring the event (Plus helping out with local pre event tech inspections for Albany based cars). They're an authorized Mickey Thompson dealer and will be on hand over the weekend to change tyres out for competitors. They'll have some fucking great deals for RW entrants as well so keep them in mind when the time comes to fork out for tyres. Will try and get some package deals sorted for people for MT DOT Radials. ;)

The strip is as green as the grass so it will take a while to rubber in.
I'd expect that the radials will get chewed up pretty quickly with the big HP brigade especially if they're using the burnout pads to haze the tyres before each pass.
Tyres (especially radials) will be checked for wear across the weekend as we can't afford a tyre related fuck up especially given its our first run with the radials and pre pass burnouts given the tick of approval.
I'm proper keen for the sprint. Industrial area yolos are the best! Some of the usual suspects in the drift scene want to do drift demos / impromptu battles on the sprint stage I'm keen as fuck but will need to do some serious sweet talking before it gets the nod.

Any update/changes on the spacer regs for wheel hubs?
I run spacers on the rear of the drag car but because the studs protrude past the hub it's deemed legal for Andra/IHRA reg's.
I've already purchased a set of 28x10x15 et radials for testing down the drags so i could compare runs against slicks.
Buckets
26-08-2016, 05:08 PM
No change on spacers however there is scope to pass it under the Demo Class rules as a "dedicated race vehicle" given it's approved by ANDRA.
It's near on impossible to get a set of rules that works for everything so we focus on looking after the street focused performance guys and have created the Demo Class exemptions for race cars and classics that are outside the mainstream.
The reg's will be up soon guys so hopefully that should answer most of the tech questions.

You running bolt on spacers ?

basically 20mm version of these. need to run them to get the right offset on the wheels and prevent from scrubbing.
studs are 3.5" long on our cars for this reason.

So what is the go with tyres.
Are drag radials now allowed for 1000m ?
Are the DOT slicks allowed for 1000m ?
Or should I shush and wait for regs :D

27-08-2016, 05:14 PM
To answer your question Zeroyon certain DOT Radials are okay for the 1000m. Drag Slicks are not permitted for anything other than Cash Days (even then for Outlaw Class only). As mentioned previously Cash Days regs are separate and less restrictive than the RW regs.
4.11 - TYRES:All vehicles must be shod with tyres legal for use on public roads, which comply with JIE, E3 and/or DOT standards. Slick drag racing tyres are banned with the exception of demonstration class vehicles. Vehicles intending to run DOT approved drag radials or circuit racing tyres must be declared at pre event scrutineering and will be required to have a suitable marking on the vehicle indicating race tyres are fitted. The use of race tyres will also be recorded against the vehicles timesheet.
4.11.1 - All tyres must be in a condition fit for purpose with no less than 50% of the original tread depth remaining at the time of pre event scrutineering. Should a vehicle enter with multiple sets of tyres the Chief Scrutineer must examine and mark each set. Scrutineering staff will inspect tyres periodically during the event and should a vehicle have tyres worn or damaged to an unacceptable standard, the vehicle will be unable to compete until suitable replacement tyres are fitted.
4.11.2 - If a vehicle is found on the day of the event to be fitted with a set of tyres which are not fit for purpose or otherwise prohibited from use at the event, that vehicle will be subject to immediate suspension from competition until fit for purpose tyres are fitted and the Chief Scrutineer approves the vehicle to rejoin the event
4.11.3 - Tyres are to be fitted to wheels suitable for their dimensions. Stretched tyres are prohibited. Refer to the Tyre and Rim Association of Australia’s standards manual for specific information on tyre fitment.
4.11.4 – All street tyres must have an equal (or greater) Load Carrying Rating and Speed Rating than the original (OEM) manufacturer’s requirement.
4.11.5 - Speed rating table:
Code
Maximum Speed
Code
Maximum Speed
W
270km/h
(W)
270km/h+
Y
300km/h
(Y)
300km/h+
The required speed rating will depend on the vehicle’s likely top speed. Competitors are encouraged to use Y or (Y) tyres. The minimum speed rating allowed without Event Management approval is W.
4.11.6 - Approved Race Tyres (Drag Radials)
Manufacturer
Product Line
Nitto
NT05R / NT555R
BFGoodrich
g-Force T/A
Mickey Thompson
ET Street Variants
I / II / SS & R
Hoosier
R6 / A6
Toyo
PROXES TQ
All others
By prior approval only
Ultra-high performance “R-Comp” tyres qualify for use as “street tyres” provided they carry a relevant load & speed rating. Circuit racing slicks approved for use at CAMS sanctioned events are not recommended however may be used with event managements approval as demonstration vehicles. Vehicles with circuit slicks will be classed as running race tyres.
The use of Hoosier “D.O.T. Drag Radial” / “D.O.T. Drag Radial 2” & M.T. “ET Street Radial Pro” is prohibited.
wait for regs
Cheers Huggy; save any more tech questions for after you've read the regs fellas. As always I'm sure the release of the reg's will generate just as many questions as it answers so once they've gone public and people have had a chance to read the them and digest them we'll do our best to answer the questions you all will want answered.

The site is undergoing a major overhaul at the moment in preparation to launch so the sign up link on the FB page will be dead.
As for the Show & Shine ect ect ect we're not releasing everything in one hit; next is Spectators, then we start the push for Sprint & Cash Days entrants who aren't doing the main RW event, then Show & Shine ect ect. Still a fair old while until race day.

I'm equally excited for the sprint - I was worried I'd shred my tyres on the airport in Wylie so didn't bother, but having it on the Monday will suit me nicely and should be a hell of a lot of fun! Correct which is why its capped at that number. Even with the current numbers I'd expect staging times to be a little longer than previous yr's factoring in the burnout pad and so forth so while it would be great to get some additional money to help make up for the losses of previous yrs we all agree we'll fuck the events vibe by overselling.

Well, I was away for the weekend and found out it was selling out quick only when I got back. So waitlisted. No panic I figure. This far out from an event there will always be heaps of dropouts, due to things not being built in time, things busting beforehand and the general 'gunna' factor.
Then again I could be wrong and have to spectate again...

burnout pad .
Toss that idea in the bin :)

Had some new rubber put on rims for the VF - Will probably be my choice for Racewars
In the next few weeks I will get them on the ute, have a wheel alignment done and try a couple of shake down runs on a private track.
I reckon a few runs at 24 to 25 seconds would replicate a full run at Racewars.
I would love to do that on a dyno first to see how the AFR's go first.

Current competitor list is basically sorted. We are going to email everyone soonish to get some more information around them, their vehicle, their plans for the event ect ect so we can stage people properly to avoid the lower powered guys getting hosed time in time out plus give the Racewars Radio muppets some shit to babble on about. If you want to resubmit your cars pic the reply email would be the time to do so as the gallery will go up then.
Cash Days has to be on Saturday night due to us needing to open the airport up again Sunday evening.
Theres going to be a few tweeks to the plan announced shortly to maximize racing time given we've wound up with more entrants than we planned for. Should keep everyone happy.
Cars can't be left at the airport at this stage but it's being looked at.
Pretty much all of us are flat knacker at the moment so we're going as fast as we can with things. The sell out really took us by suprise and given the size of the reserve list we werent the only ones not expecting it either.

This latest RW owes me about 8k currently according to my .xls not including my time. I will see a bit of it back but nowhere near all of it let alone get fair value for the time invested.
It's lost a reasonable amount money year on year and is only alive because the people behind it and key partners have been willing to keep tipping in or forgive debts ect ect.
We do it simply because we like doing it. There's no financial incentive to do RW and anyone who knows the back end of the event will vouch for that.

Specifically if this car's OEM roll over protection will be acceptable.
