Hey guys, i was asked to film and photograph the destruction at Yarloop . I have been racking my brain for a track to put to it. It has to be resoectful, slow and instrumental is preferred. I was going to stick to this song but i feel the words arnt appropriate ...

Something like that would be great.
Please list any ideas you have. Cheers!

Indian Summer by Jai Wolf, although I think it's got more of a revival feel over destruction
The Runner by Airling
Deception Bay by Boo Seeka
Stay Alive by Jose Gonzalez
Monsters by Abby
Mountains Crave by Anna von Hauswolff

All are far more upbeat than I think you'd be after, but they may help in some way

Also - Teardrop or Heartbeats by Jose Gonzalez (two different songs)

Totally left of field, but maybe something like this.

Gorecki Symphony No. 3 "Sorrowful Songs". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miLV0o4AhE4

Thats one i was thinking of 1st. May be a goer

I'd go the original - far more haunting and apt.

Billy Joel - we didn't start the fire

and in regards to the disturbed one. plz its not bad but its not even a shadow of the original, i dont see why groups insist on covering old tracks which were perfect to start with.

The original also fits in far better for whole Yarloop devastation .. It's Heritage.. It's people.

Have a listen to some of these - they're royalty free. "Lost time" is quite atmospheric.

Lyrics may be a bit off? But maybe Johny Cash singing Hurt? Has the right feeling about it and is very well known so might be more relatable for more people?

Hey Marc,

How long is the video? Helps people recommend a track that falls within a suitable time frame.

Are you able to edit your video to more suit the music once the music has been selected (hitting beats / matching the emotion at key points within the song) or are you just wanting to ‘set and forget’?

Personally I would shy away from using music that contains lyrics, no matter how much they seem to match; they tell people what to think, if you know what I mean – whereas instrumental simply directs their thoughts rather than dictates.

This is music programmed using samples. Lost Time takes me back 20 years to ‘Tomb Raider 1’ on the PSX. I don’t think this is good enough to match the quality and power that Marc’s imagery is sure to have. It’s Royalty-free, yes, but if your video is not for commercial purpose and you can use any music from anywhere then I would avoid. Plz.

There’s a gazzilion things to recommend, but here’s something recent: the soundtrack to Winter On Fire – a Netflix documentary about the unrest in Ukraine during 2013 and 2014. The soundtrack may suit your imagery well due to the documentary’s similar nature: unfortunate situation; about the people and their suffering; photography of fire, burning; also with highlights of hope and togetherness (which you may have in your project?) It’s written by Jasha Klebe who has worked with and learned from Hans Zimmer, and you can hear that in the style. That means simple, clear emotion.

March of the Millions

This has a great slow background build for almost 2 minutes before lead violin enters. From here its build to crescendo @ 3.20 is where the pacing and power of your images can progress. The 30 seconds of low quiet that follow could be used for text if you needed – giving stats or some such.

Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the Heroes!

Similar format and pacing to March of the Millions, however with a slightly more uplifting feel I think. You also get to separate it into two sections (2:30 mark) as the music changes.

End Titles
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFpXf3ME4WQ
This score has elements that can push you along a bit (1:55 mark) mixed with somber (2:20) and again to the final uplifting feel after viewing all of the devastation (3:00 onward). I feel its constant movement and particular mid section (2:20) may be more suited to light action. Overall this gives you dynamics, but having not seen your footage I don’t know how well this piece will work.

Had a job out there today, it's completely different seeing it in person, seeing one or two houses completely fine, then 10 completely wiped out. then whole streets gone.
The guy who I did the job for today, said he had full water pressure as his house is behind the Bowls club and on a different water line, he also has an 100 and 20 thousand litre water tanks he said they could use, but they thought he was waving at them for help.
