Doing some research on motor options for an ICV i have in the works, need to make some decisions on engine combo for paper work.
Plan was a Turbo LS engine with silly HP...
What capacity LS is a good choice for 1200+hp boosted ? 427 ?? big stroke ?
Block options, is a LSX block the way to go ?
Heads ? whats the goods ?
Anything else to consider ?
Also need to decide on gearbox.... leaning towards Auto, quicker handle power better !??

Anyone know Chris with the Sonic torana? Pretty sure he would know his stuff when it comes to big hp turbo ls' s.

I give you two options that are worthy of Chev V8 bulk power then:
Lola T76 Mk IIIb most obvious as closed rear bodywork to hide turbo LS uglies
Or...
McLaren M8B. Bit difficult to replicate the big block and exposed mechanical injection trumpets, but I have faith in you.

Take to John Lloyd from SQP - Shane Stevens has screwed a couple of weapon 408 ci combos together with twin hair dryers. John Lloyd tuned a ute combo recently on E85 and got shit hot results.

Eddy from Active Automotive has built a heap of strip proven TT LSX's with all kinds of bat shit crazy power including the infamous GTO. His current set up is built for ~2000RWHP+ The set up he ran at RW this year was good for ~1300 RWHP but he only used 800ish on the goat track as there's no way it would put any more down. Still ran 305 over the rolling 1/2 mile.
The big black dyno doesn't lie and his stuff is about as quick as it gets in terms of full street trim cars.

Lots to consider will need to talk to a few people, not really looking for an engine builder more proven combinations then i only need a machine shop i can trust which i have.
Vehicle will be based a full custom chassis, so the sheet metal on top or what it is now is irrelevant apart from being cool as fuck !
Chassis likely based on Art Morrison gear/C6 Corvette forged alloy yada yada but instead of what would usually be done for a rear(4/5 link watts live 9") will be an independent 9" arrangement..... maybe you could call it a pro tourer type build... maybe.

you dont really need to go big cubes to make stupid amounts of power with e85 and twin turbo's before you start having problems with traction. if 1200whp if your goal, your going to need some big ass tyres. even 760rwhp on a mates twin turbo late model camaro destroys 335's with ease and he is running just a forged 6.2 through a factory 6l80e so if your chasing 1000+hp then you going to need to either go manual or built 4l80e/6l80e.

1200hp is just because i can...who said anything bout being practical ;)
Yes i'd say the gearbox option is going to be a tough one.... big clunky manual or built auto which would be a nicer a drive and faster in a straight line.... has anyone built a serious 6l80e ?
TH400 nah have too many of those in the family as it is and i want something i bit more modern and daily-ish.
Does anyone make an automatic sequential manual for LS application ???

Sequential shift + dog gearset? No idea if it'd be any good or worthwhile, or how expensive.

circle'd in the states would be the only people i would trust to build a proper 6l80e for 1000rwhp. I was one of the 1st people to use one of their converters in my 6l80e back in the day and it's served me well.

I remember hearing about this thing about a year ago. I have no idea how well it works though. If it's designed for a syncro box the gear changes might be pretty slow compared with dogs.

Will do a build thread one day....but for now.
Had this car since i was 16, bought it for $600, original 186s powerglide.... first licensed car i ever owned, put a Celica 5 speed in and rove it(destroyed many bango's)....then ate cheese sandwiches sausages and potatoes for ~2 years to afford 350 chev, TH350 and 9"...drove it for ~10years, nearly died several times....used much fuel ! Then went for an engine upgrade....license lasped....sat in shed for 20 years like you see !

can you please give us more details/pics of the torana?

Torana is tucked in the corner of the shed.....in stages of turbo install, 74 LH 4 door done up like a SLR5K, has 9" truetrak 1000hp axels adjustable arms, TR6060(Needs to go) twin plate Mcleod clutch, LS3 crate engine(525hp version with upgraded heads and valve train), CastleMaine Rod Shop coilover blah absolute POS mistake of a front end(needs to go !) ....Getting Precision 7675 on dirty single manifold set-up.
Had too much to do recently to do much on this.....one day !, not aiming for too stupid HP(as much as a alloy block gen 4 can make!) unless something serious is done about chassis etc, drives like a 42 year old Holden !! Exciting but frankly fucking dangerous, wet road + 500Hp forgetaboutit .
