I have moved to a new place which is amazing apart from the fact I cant get any internet.

I have exhausted the ADSL/Cable Dialup options. Im too far from the exchange and have basically been told that congestion and distance are the killers by all providers.. I doubt NBN will ever come and basically Satellite subsidy is a no go as providers say they can provide to me even though they cant.

I have decided to opt for a wireless solution.. Optus seems to be the way to go 60 bucks a month for 12gb as apposed to Testras 55 for 10 gig or 105 for 15 gig.

Now I have shit wireless signal at my house only getting 3g at some places in the house and some places outside on my telstra phone. I have done the research and it appears that optus and telstra share a Tower that is 4.4kms (55m high) from my house and another 7.3kms (217m high) from my house. I am however in a bit of a gully.

If I got a a router that you can put a simcard in and capable of taking an external antenna like this one http://www.citytechnology.com.au/store/antennas/optus-virgin/22dbi-900mhz-optus-virgin-yagi-grid-antenna is that going to help me improve my signal?

I realise 12 gig is nothing but it is also better than nothing. Sadly Im not in their 4g coverage area to get the 50g for 70 a month.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Yagi antenna will definitely help as long as you have reasonable line of sight. Have used them heavily over the years working for Testra with good results.

You do however want to keep cable length between modem and antenna as short as possible.

Correct, even if you can put the modem in the roof and run a separate wireless router from that via wired network will work wonders.
