View Full Version : Facebook Group Liability Query
I've recently started a Facebook group for a bunch of 4wd's. The main thing we are trying to nut out at the moment is how to get around is liability of holding event/4wd run.
We are trying to work if we can hold an official event/run and if we can use a disclaimer to remove all liability from the event organizer? From what we've read up on so far, saying we can't.
The thing we found so far that may get around it, is saying "We are going out 4wding, you are more than welcome to join us" That seems to cover it.
At the moment are not looking to make it a club with insurances etc
Anyone know any disclaimers that might cover it? Or anyone that we can talk to about the legality side of things?
Cheers in advance

Disclaimers & waivers aren't worth the paper they're written on, it all depends on how far you wish to purse things. Clearly an informal social gathering where no funds are exchanged will be treated differently to an advertised & promoted event however in this day and age of people absconding any form of personal responsibility for anything they possibly can when it suits them it may pay to seek formal legal advice prior to holding "official events".
Real lawyers > internet lawyers. A few hours of a suitable qualified professionals time is a very very small price to pay for knowing exactly where you stand and what steps you need to take to ensure you are covered.
Cheers for the quick reply Bucket, yeah that's what we have been reading. which is sad in this day and age.
I know yourself and few others have dealt with this sort of stuff (racewars and supercruises), that's why I thought i'd post it up here. As I know there is plenty of want to be internet lawyers out there. Is there anyone you would recommend? Shoot it in a PM if needed.
cheers
