View Full Version : What have you done to your bike today?

In the spirit of the car thread, one for bikes.
To start off, last night, I changed my levers to ones from "thetwowheels" which are meant to be better than any china/eBay spec stuff and won't discolour. Just have to figure out if washers need to be installed too, seeing they have a little play in them - not too concerned seeing they're for the Ninja 250.
Also fitted up an R6 throttle tube (2003/2004 from memory) - the new found responsiveness is actually quite nice.

Started buying bits for the postie bike to install next break. Indicators, exhaust, pod filter and jet kit for carby.
Trying to find ape-hangers, tail light I like and more info on ~100 spoke rims
Keen to see Postie progress, I'm going to get one over summer if i pass my R-E Licence in a couple of weeks.

Will post a few pics. Was offshore today so unable to purchase rims, head light and tail light. Aim is to get parts on it and happy with how it work, give it a heap of love paint wise, maybe engine as well if I can find a big (200) cc clutchless manual. I don't see the point in a swap otherwise.

Superpole Seat as I thought it'd be comfier than standard, turns out it isn't.
It is better though, raised at the tank end slightly so you don't slip forward, grippy, and feel much more planted but the surface of it is so hard that if you're riding in regular pants, your balls get crushed whichever way you sit.

This week, got some work done on the ducati.
Change sprocket again from 42 rear back to 39, ecu update on my tuneboy with throttle and torque mapping plus launch control. Finally bought QS strain gauge so i could get auto-blip on the downshifts. Now just waiting for tuneboy to get back to us so we can get the new mapping working with my ecu! Can't wait to give it a try the updates are meant to really smooth-en out the quickshifts, and improve the throttle even more!
will post some videos once i get the bike back!

Ran wiring inside ape hangers, jockey shifter made and painted, new speedo mount made and painted ( got a little chrome one to sit down near the key barrel)
Had my exhaust, pod filter (wrong one) and bigger main jet and new tail light rock up today. Still waiting on indicators, new handgrips, mirror and bmx pedal (for the kickstarter) to rock up.
Hopefully lengthened throttle and brake cables come back from Melbourne tomorrow. Unsure if I get it back together once they arrive and ride it for a bit or drop exhaust and carby off and finish it how I want before I ride it again :P
Yet to fine a muffler I like so was going to hack up the standard one and make it a shorty with minimal baffling.

Finished lengthening the wiring for the apehangers and plugged it all back together in the headlight shroud, bulk issues.. Pull it all out of the shroud and plugged it back together, different issues lol. Need to get my hands on a wiring diagram haha. I need to find some extra tie in points for the new speedo I have installed.
Off to Melbourne tomorrow but should be home in a week. Getting the bike finished is on the top of my list. Once the wiring is sorted I just got to tweak the exhaust and weld it to the factory muffler and it's good for Vic Park note runs :P

Finished exhaust (modded aftermarket front pipe to fit standard muffler with rear restrictor removed). Retarded effort but I wanted standardish look and didn't want it sounding like a dirt bike that other aftermarket ones makes them sound like.
Wiring is now doing my head in, numerous gremlins have emerged. Also making new gauge indicator lights work is poo. Addition of relays required.
Other issues are indicator gremlins traced back to standard buzzer. Removed buzzer but now flasher relay doesn't operate, got to find what size resistor to put in. and hope that with it in the back feed issues don't come back.
LED tail-light looks great, but as engine revs increase the light begins to flicker and as revs get higher flicker slows down lol. More relays needed I think and will have to power off of battery as opposed to off of the random 6v alternator direct circuit the headlight and tail light run off from factory.
Fucking postie bikes.

The Pani has been at ProTwin for a couple of weeks now, minor service, had the full termi system and wheels stripped off, ceramic coated the full system satin black, and got the rims blasted and coated black. Didn't like the red rim tape that was in the paint, so got rid of it.
Will post some photos soon :)
Side note, i really don't like the antenna mirrors. I'm super keen to get some led indicator mirror blockoff plates and some bar end mirrors, but not sure of how functional they are. Anyone have any experience/opinions? I do mostly hill runs but the odd commute.
Something along the lines of this.

Had a minor whoopsie on the street fighter, so used it as an opportunity for tweaks as you do. Picked up a genuine Ducati performance tail section super cheap on eBay and also got a black genuine headlight. Was all red before. Actually think it's worked out ok.
Re bar end mirrors have those exact crg arrows and they are tops. One of the best looking imho and very functional.

Can you flick those mirrors up before splitting? Also, how hard are they to remove? That, with the LED indicators being plug and play, is making my choice alot easier.
Darkside
03-02-2016, 04:21 PM
^^^^ The mirrors are very easy to flick up. The arm "clicks" through a number of positions (kind of straight out, 45 deg and straight up) and the mirror is on a ball mount so heaps of adjustment there. To mount them you will probabaly need to fit new bar ends as I have found the stock ones no good. Steve at Rated R parts does some nice black ones at a good price. They need minor tweaks to fit but are the ideal diameter for the mirrors to bolt on. 2 min job to bolt them on and off. (one cap head bolt)

Fark, that sounds hefty.
Mate had an 848, only tracked it once he bought China fairings for it - saved himself a hefty bill too really because he crashed it not long after and broke his arm (at Barbs also).
Another mate of mine took his 250 to the track (very one I just bought for the interim) and saw a bird take her new Ducati out for the first time, crashed the bike first lap too.
I should really just go get my open license already, might try book it in at Mirrabooka - have heard City West have become really anal the last few months (maybe due to an audit?)

Picked this up the other week, pretty happy with it (VFR800).
Today did a full oil & filter change, brake & clutch fluid change, cleaned and lubed the chain. One of the first things I did actually was remove the exhaust internal baffles haha.. the V4 sounds so good.. one day would like to get some proper pipes for less weight and better looks, but for now its loud enough.
Also have a Saddlemen seat resto kit coming (this seat has 1 or 2 tears) and a new front screen.
The guy I bought it off also gave me a full spare set of fairings and tank.. have been toying with the idea of going with a Mustang P40 army kinda look on it.... maybe :)

With bars that high is it comfortable to ride, even on long trips?

Yeah it is surprisingly, it's a lot more comfortable with these bars than it was with the drag bars I had on before.

Jake from Static chucked some white walls on for me this morning. I have been wanting some for ages and should have done it so much sooner! Huge improvement in the look.

Mate's in the same boat, bought a track bike right before Barbs went AWOL.
Told him he should put it on some brackets on his living room wall, would at least get some use as art.

Not done, but bought. First batch of bits on the way for the XS650 from the states. Hard-tail kit, forward controls, springer seat gear, sissy bar, fender mounting kit, rear drum anchor rod and pivot gear.
Went with a 4" stretch and 3" drop for the hardtail. Compared to originally wanting a 2.5" stretch and 2" drop I think I didn't go too overboard haha

Their postage to aus was a bit high for my liking - it's based on order total, not actual weight/volume. I ordered a stator and regulator and they wanted $60usd which I baulked at.
I got them sent to a forwarder as partzilla ship free to us states once you hit a certain amount, then bundled them with a heap of other shit to save bulk.
Get your order in and paid for before the GST changes come in.

Sweet thanks! one of the parts I need is a Rear subframe - Partzilla don't have one but the arsebandits on ebay want $90US for the part and $120US shipping! FFS!

although quite often you can get way better rates through somewhere like US delivered. SO you change details when purchase on ebay to send to US address (if getting something ebay US) then add small parts into box with larger lighter items and would save considerably on multifreight (especially when something like a subframe cubes out for airfreight quite bad.....

Realised that I shouldn't leave it over a month between pulling bike down and putting it back together without labelled where bolts go lol
Thermo-bob, and Rigid Industries spotlights installed on the KLR yesterday.
Hopefully figure out a nice place to mount up some power sockets today. Then drop the coolant again because there is a nipple I blanked off but not entirely convinced I want to leave it that way. Would rather source a blanking bolt with flanged face to seal it off properly with a copper washer.

So for the first time in 2 years I put fuel in the KLR having finally finished putting it back together and been in town for some sunny weather it ride it around.
Pretty pumped to start my lap in Feb next year. Think I might invest in some decent pants and a better quality jacket. Tried out using my Bose QC20's when riding, absolutely magnificent haha. Except the odd vehicles travelling enar you come through so weirdly. Had a ute come up behind me with a plastic wrapped pallet making a weird noise, the QC's couldn't take it so it was just that noise coming through, very very odd feeling until I turned around and saw where the noise was coming from, thought the engine was in the process of grenading hahah
Byah!

Been a while...
Hit up Phillip Island on the R1 in Feb - fucking blast. Can't wait to do it again post Covid...
Sanded back some of the carbon fibre bits, re-cleared them, went well and looks great.
Had the 40,000kms service - $1500 gone in a snap of the finger.
She's sounding fucking amazing though, eargasms every time...
