G'day guys, currently looking into salpac-ing myself a 150 series turbo diesel Prado grande.

Any first hand experiences with salpac and the car here?

Mods, problems etc ?

I cop a fair bit of shit from my mates for buying a 150 GXL not a 200 or somethng more 'manly' but Ive been happy with mine so far.

As a stock brand new car with quite abit of added weight (steel bullbar,3/4 roof rack, awning) its been good so far for long trips. With the car and roof rack completely loaded sitting on 120kmhr Im still getting 1100km+ out of a tank. Not being a diesel guy I was also pleasantly suprised how easily it will get from 120 to 140 odd for passing trucks. Im not super keen on doing hardcore offroad stuff in a car thats just cost me 65k but it has been everywhere we've wanted to go up here around Karratha with climate control on and blue tooth sound cranked. Really comfy family bus/tourer if thats what you want.

Exactly what I'm after, have been thru the whole "let's climb shit" ordeal before. Now with a family all I'm looking at doing is towing camper trailer places 1000km+ away in comfort.

Was originally after a 120 series but due to age vs salpac the lease term is pretty short. Hence 150 series.

Looked at actual land cruisers already. They would dominate my garage a little too much.

I'm the same as above.. Not keen to take my small children to dangerous off road destinations but I'd love to do some touring.

I ended up with an Isuzu MU-X LS-T and pocketed the 20k change that I saved over buying a new 2.8 Prado GXL

Worst thing with Toyota's is the fucking rattling and the squeaking from the interior. They are fine if you're only off road every now and then, but if a lot of thier life is off road (and I don't mean climbing shit) they squeak their asses off.

The 150 series are worlds apart from the 120 series (and feel like a different manufacturer from the Hilux). The 120s we had at forge were fucked, where the 150s were still good, even with everybody trying to kill them.

Love our 150, it's such a nice car to drive, ours is an ex Broome rental, the few marks here and the red dust stained motor is the only give away, it drives like a new car still and the motor is loads quieter than my D4D Hilux shit box with similar K's.

We bought it to go travelling a bit, but still not giving a shit if we got a scratch on it, it's a 4wd ffs. Has huge amounts of space as well.

I threw a chip and 3" exhaust on mine, it's like a totally different car, I wouldn't feel super comfortable overtaking before at 110, now it pulls hard in any gear.
Father in law has the GXL with all the Touring bolt ons, he's done 30,000km in the last 2 years towing a camper all over the show, still raves about it.
The Prado's have proven themselves over time, would get one again if I had the choice :)
