It's here again!
Rallysprints (http://www.rallysprints.com)
https://www.facebook.com/targawest
The first event in the 15/16 season starts in about three weeks with the standalone Mid-Year Rallysprint. Then the 5-round series kicks off later in the year and goes through early 2016.
If you don't know what the Rallysprint is, head to that website for full regs, maps and images of previous events. It's open to most motorcars (don't need a cage), NOT just caged tarmac-spec vehicles. So come and have some fun!
Some images from previous events can be found at McRae Rally Sprint 2013/14 Round 3 - Manolo MediaManolo Media (http://manolophotography.com.au/portfolios/mcrae-rally-sprint-round-3/)

With the run of luck I've had, I'm not holding my breath for even starting. Hoping all the driveshafts remain in one piece. If it goes well, it should be competitive. But then mechanical luck has not been my forte.

Totally new car, with rumour of protests going in at Targa West and at East Coast targas Simon decided to build a new car to the same spec as the Medickie car as that has competed multiple times without getting excluded
All the rush and hassle seems to be wasted now though as Targa on the East coast has canned the classic class and that is the reason Blaise sold the Moff
The old car was legal and had all the paperwork to prove it but he couldn't be assed dealing with all the drama again
The Blue and White car is going to be running NASCAR engine at all events from now on and the Orange car will be Targa spec

Could be amusing if the below possibility happens - BOM Metro forecast:
"Cloudy. Very high (90%) chance of rain, most likely in the afternoon and evening. Heavy falls exceeding 60 mm possible in the southwest".
Kwinana Beach - kinda SouthWest Perth metro for mine. Oh well. May have to turn up in the morning as well to have some fun in the dry. Undecided. But get your quick runs in early on in the arvo is a solid plan I'd venture.

I took Julian for a ride in the Swift and in return I got a ride in the GT40.
OH. MY. GOD!!!!!! What an experience! The sound, the acceleration and the car control. Julian sure can drive. He had the back out on most corners and and showed amazing control to get that thing around the tight corners. Hats off to you Julian, great driving. Some people were saying they wouldn't pay $20.00 for a ride at Rallysprint. Hell, i would pay $100 for another run!
I was silly enough to think I might be able to stay with Julian and Joseph today, but I have a long way to go.
Well done to Mark Greenham who took out first place, Julian and Joseph Hall with class wins.

Not gonna buff out.
3rd run of the day and only a bit damp, so was onto it after the previous wet run slowed us up a bit. Last corner and turned in a tiny bit too late, back stepped out and couldn't keep it off the tyre barriers. Hit it pretty hard, harder than it looks in the photos - will post video soon, but it does not show much apart from a slight tweak of the wheel on turn in (when I realized I missed my turn in point), slide and then we were a pinball basically. We bounced of tyres, spun around 270 degrees back off into the grass, kept it running and got back on track and across the line for a 2:27! Pity, looked like a pretty good run up till then and I think would have been quick enough for a podium placing for the day, maybe 2nd behind that Greenham speed freak! Managed 2nd quickest time of the day on our last run, which was surprising. Car obviously straight and I was angry enough to punish it for my stupidity the previous run. New front tyres are a good thing it turns out, a very good thing.
Looks not too bad, but the rear clip took a decent hit so will need a little realigning then some glass repairs. Need to rob a bank or something, cause that was an expensive mistake. Ah well, can't get away with pushing on every time I guess. There goes the rest of the year sadly.
Was a pretty busy day with such a short break between runs didn't get to see much. Seems like the pointy end of the field has slowed down a bit - targa compliant motors in the evo's I guess will do that. Which is fine with me! Good to see the bucket mobile Jon. I'd like to have a good look at it one day when I have time. Ah, the sounds and smell of a BPT rotor. Mmm, miss that bad!
Thanks heaps for the swapsie fun Neil. Really impressed by the stoppers and turn in on the Swift. Obviously deadly through the tight stuff and you did go close to knocking off the 6 seconds from the first run!
Also took Mandy (sorry Steph - blame your mum) for a run in the morning and got a bit silly. She was giggling and having too much fun so what's a guy to do apart from go sideways until grass was found?

First time i've seen the GT40 in action, and sweet mother of god it looks and sounds good being driven in anger.
Tough day at the office Julian. Sorry to see but if you're not rubbing you're not racing :-). Back bigger and better in no time.
The team wog evo made noticeable improvements today. Replaced springs to much softer targa specific rates has transformed the car. A little more dampening fine tuning required but confidence has increased. Bring on Targa West.

Well shit, that was a little more brutal than what the photos would suggest. :/ Bad luck mate. I too have played with that same tyre bundle in the past, albeit not quite as rough.

Total cost probably less that you've spent on that roll cage.

I was very close to packing up and going home as I was also having brake issues (apparently rubbish enduro spec pads were to ultimately blame) and it was running far too rich (hense the popping, farting and gassing everyone out) but knew I'd never hear the end of it if I packed up and sulked off.
Props to Riggs for being mad enough to come for a ride especially when I said the brakes yolospec :p

Thanks fellas, it don't seem too bad now a couple of days later. Watching the video of the other in car camera pointing at us we got a decent sideways hit, but both of us didn't end up with sore necks or anything come Monday morning at work. So, my Simpson neck restraint didn't get to do it's thing, and I'm good with that! 6 point harnesses, neck restraints and full fire resistant gear seems a bit over the top sometimes, but it's such a fine line between going hard and losing it (for me at least) that I don't mind the 'try hard racer look' so much now.
Got brave and lifted rear clip on car tonight to have a decent look at what my momentary lapse of reason did. Turns out to be pretty much OK apart from tearing the right rear wheel arch vertically up about 7 inches. Whole rear clip has pivoted on the right rear hinge mount bracket, which explains why it's a bit out of line. If that comes up sweet by loosening bolts, realigning, then tightening, I'll be pretty relieved! Couple of other minor touch ups needed too plus of course paint, which I'll have to pay to get done as I can't even paint my name.
Talking to one of the guys who has same car as me who is a composites guru. Plan is for him to come take a look and see about sorting the glass damage, so making plans.
Pretty dark I made such a stupid mistake when the car was so competitive on the day. Ah well, pride cometh before a fall etc.
If you want a simple Honda screamer Buckets, wanna buy my daily civic? Suddenly decided I need cash. Guaranteed simplicity and 8400 RPM rev cut LOL's. But really, just drive your RX weapon. The world needs more eye watering alcohol and premix brap. Mine does at least...

Yep, good to get back into it again last night. Hot enough however. I sucked pretty bad as was not feeling it. Also first event for new front pads and I hadn't bedded them in hard enough, much smell and general lack of retardation for first couple of runs, though my retard driving didn't help either.
Took all night to get down to a decent time, but still a couple seconds off Denver...so nice work from team spray tan whale.

Yes, quite some wheel spin at the start line. I'd say easily another 5/10 or a sec if get the launch control.
Denver
16-01-2016, 04:52 PM
I'd go maybe 1 sec better, was proven between the last three runs, first run doesn't really count as the tyres where green, second run bogged, 2.33, third run a little wheel spin but 2.32 last run bogged again 2.33, I need a little wheel spin to get it on song quicker, but not so much that it blazes off the line, once its going I can pedal it easy enough to minimise fogging, just need to get the initial jump consistent, trying to hold the revs where I think its sweet doesn't work all the time, which is why ill set up launch to get it bang on for each start..

SQS sequential shifter is what I'll be putting on my dog box later in the year.. By all accounts they work well.
Will definitely be keen to see how it goes. My box comes out soon, but I'm just replacing synchros and the clutch. Dog box will come much later. Cage and seat time are the priorities this year.

Launnnnnch controllllll !
I used to think launch control was just another way to take away that extra little skill from a driver. And of course technically it is. But after using it in the GC8, as you say Denver it just helps with the consistency – all you need to do is manage the clutch slip for different conditions, or event set different RPM limits for different tyre compounds.

BP - surely your paint would be dried and baked by then!
3BEPKA - if this is your first competition event, well it can bite. I know this. But go for it!
Jamie - Your M3 surely is a comfortable and climate controlled way to race?

^^^^ It kind of grew arms and legs as these things do. 1974 body is always going to have some surprises lurking. Has had a thorough job done. Drying time is certainly not an issue. :) Primer and rubbed back by the end of the week and colour early next week and reassembly. Then maybe some other track time before we come tackle the concrete and kerbs :)

Can't say I'm excited at the prospect of 40+ and no air con. Let alone a fan driving down there.

Well, turned out to be a pretty decent night. Good field, not hot and we didn't bin it. Bit of mechanical carnage going on though. Car felt good and I was mostly happy with how I drove, apart from going slower in the dark. Bit of trash talking with Denver before kick-off worked when he lost a couple of gears early on. Otherwise would have been smashed by the Orange Whale again.
Tight field at the pointy end and also in my class, the GTi Capri getting damn close to knocking us off as they went faster in the dark.
That's me done for this season. Back for the Bunbury sprint in June, which should be a burster.

Ross has given us the OK to run at Bunno so really looking forward to that,
It falls on the same day as the Speedevent series run at the RAC but most of us are doing Bunno so that should piss off a certain person :p

Dog ring 1, other stuff 0.
Its done some damage. Luckily there's parts on the shelf just got to check a couple things before putting the order in.
Most annoying part of it all. Aside from it breaking on run 2. And not the last one. Or at all. I was about to change to lower dog rings due to age. Seems one beat me. Fuckers.
Seems karma got me for the trash talk.

Took rwd over 2l out. Consistent 2:31 runs all night. Tried a balls out run only went a fraction better for a lot of really late that almost put me into something solid and now I have poo in my pants braking.
Will spat second to bits and blew a hole in the bottom of the box, morse had issues. Lister snapped a shaft and left his spares at home.

Morse was fuel pressure/pump/filter issues

So entries are now open for Bunbury Rallysprint, 26th June. I post this only cause I've got my entry in already! This should sell out real fast methinks...
32 km total of Rallysprint over 8 runs in both directions.
Course looks great, but brakes will be toast pretty quickly I think as it looks very much like TW Malaga stage.
Will have to pace myself methinks and use 3rd gear in all the corners to keep my sideways habits and rear rubber under control. And accept that I can't beat the 4WD's, especially if not 100-% dry.
Above all: Must-not-crash!
Who's in?

thought this might be the best place to ask. Thinking about taking the vee dub down for the next round of this. (Thursday 16th feb) Missus is away. Anyone interested in being ballast? :)

I'd be keen for a run or two. I'm heading down there anyway as well so I'll bring the safety gear just in case.

Erm. Had overlooked that. But if anyone knows the fast way around there it's you. But also happy to take on board anything you learned from your last outing that might help me avoid the same outcome :).

Just don't have Steph in the nav seat and you will be fine.
Look at Marks record when he has done events without her, finishes and wins most of the time.
Put Steph in the car and it has mechanical dramas and doesn't finish events.
Simples really
