Vulture coming out early this season it seems!
So, if not Targa Jon, what then?
May try and enter the Sunday amateurs division at riverside drive, but I understand it's car park spec only this year due to some clowns booking a circus in Langley park at the same time. Pun intentional.
Do want to go see the wroo prologue stage however. Would love a go at that!

I offered to pay Ross Tapper cash to buy access to run a more open / inclusive event on the city stage through RW prior to the QTW guys rolling in. They run cars like the historics that no pingpingpingping gives a shit about; have no intent of changing and are seem to give no fucks about loosing revenue and audience as a result.

If they allowed non compliant cars to compete I'd be all over doing city stage. They don't and IMO it's their loss both financialy and in terms of the show they can put on.

Unbunch your panties lads. Word is the city stage in the morning will not be run by VSCC. So quite possible you get to run the carpark in your not-a-boring-as-batshit-old-banger. I'm guessing a fair few rallysprint regulars may put their hands up, we'll see.

FWIW the past three morning session winners have been a Ralt RT4, dick ward's rotary fiat sports sedan and yours truly. Yeah, no one wants to see slow old crap like that polluting the waterfront of perth...

Not when there's 458's / Aventadors and a suite of hard tuned cars that would have a good but still "safe" crack around there.

Anyways...

So, here is cut and paste from rallysprints.com : "For those who have not entered Quit Targa West but would like to have a blast around the City or Perth Special Stage...stay tuned for details of the Targa City Sprint."

Better get psyched to get your entry in as per above Jon, and also get on the blower to the exotics and hard tuned crew.

Provided they have sensible rules for the non caged guys I don't see an issue here and as usual I'm not in Perth for the weekend.

I'll still keep an eye on the page and see what they come up with. Given QTW runs in just under 2 months time I hope for their sake the info release and sign up is sorted soon.

I doubt there will be an issue with eligibility. Golden rule applies as ever - you bring the gold, you get an entry. I'd figure same deal as applies for rallysprints, based on a couple of points:

1) Run by same people
2) Course will probably by fairly mickey mouse (carpark only), not like a Kwinana rallysprint where you can nudge 200 or more on the straights and not too much slower through the return road sweeper.

But will see the regs soon enough. Meanwhile, mid-year rallysprint entries are now open and I am like Fry gagging for an eyephone on this one!

There isn't speed limit for non caged guys at motorplex, so I hope they do the same at 'targa city sprint'.

When motorplex is run under Targa West regs (such as for the test and tune session) there is supposed to be a 140km/h (or similar) restriction on non caged cars.

It's done. The whale made it the whole way. In time we finished 4th. In reality we finished no where. And loved every second of it. Today was epic. Even with brand new rears for Malaga with a couple of km left I was 4 wheel sliding it as they just cooked that hard. And the city stage was dumb tight but still managed to place inside the top ten on each run.

I'm looking forward to a huge sleep in tomorrow.

Huge thanks to Lauchie for putting his life in my hands the last few days. Bart and southwest brakes for service crewing and some new mu pads. Elec power technologies and asterisk information security services for the financial help. John at John fowler auto sport for his continual help. Sean and Nic plus the entire team at Allstar garage for the tuning and other support they provide. And my gf Jax and Lauchies gf Carley for keeping us fed and liquified all weekend.

Having both Will and Mark in the Gti service was awesome and slightly scary at the same time, watching them both trade stage times and wondering if they would finish unscathed

You couldn't get two polar opposite people though, Will has redbull to clam down and is full on at all hours of the day and Mark just looks like nothing can phase him

Crewing for 7 cars over the weekend was a hard slog but to see all cars finish was a huge achievement with all the dramas that we encountered over the weekend

Mark - centre diff on Thursday night
Will - centre diff on Friday
Simon - head gasket in the Capri on Saturday and hitting a kerb destroying a rim
Bill - fuel rail and injectors coming loose on Racecourse 1 and then getting a broken windscreen following JME on Bullsbrook long

what a weekend. I had a great time being apart of the GTi service team.
Firstly congratulations to all competitors, I hope you had a great time just as I did.
and thanks to the QTW officials, you all do an epic job.

I was focused mainly on Marks evo, which kept us busy when he came into service. so stoked that he & steph finished the rally.
as said above in the thread; on Thursday in Malaga service Mark said he had a diff noise, we didn't have a oil pump to do a diff oil change. he headed out for the next stage while I went to chase down a pump for when he gets back, it was too late. soon after heading into stage we got that dreaded message that he's stationary. that saw us tow the car to Race Tourque Engineering. where they built a Frankenstein centre diff out of other diffs they had in the shop and we're back on the road for day 2.

Day 2 saw the usual maintenance on Marks car, he was happy, I was happy. ..but later that night it saw 4 of us crew putting a centre diff in Will Whites evo. after my lack of sleep on Friday night; I can't believe how Mark pedalled his car on Friday being up all night at Race Tourque on Thursday night/Friday morning.

Saturday & Sunday was full on, & Marks car ran mint. ...sadly that wasn't the case for the rest of the team. luckily the Capri still ran into 2nd place in their category after Saturday. and alike the girls limped the evo home after destroying the rear diff to take 1st in challenge. what an experience.

+ thanks to Denver for making me weak at the knees everytime you're on the noise. so epic.

Our event was almost over before it began.
The turbo seized first thing Thursday morning before the start.

We made it to ASG, found a replacement from Doug at STechnic, fitted it, a quick road tune for the Motec and on our way to Forrest Place.
If we didn’t make the start line, that was it, rally over. We made our start time with 1 minute to spare.
We were on a high having made it to the start.

We took off on the first stage at Wanneroo, only for the car to suddenly die after 300m.

We were at a loss as to why. We withdrew from Day 1, got it back to ASG on a flatbed. We discovered that a bolt that seals a hole for O2
sensor in the dump pipe off the back of the turbo had come out, and that resulted in hot exhaust gas being blown out directly onto the
main wiring loom of the car, which it promptly melted.

So, fix the hole with new bolt, strip, solder and rewrap the wiring, attempt to start. Nothing. The Motec was fried. This looked to be rally over,
but amazingly after some phonecalls and much hope, we actually found the exact one we needed that someone was willing to lend us for the
weekend. So we go a hold of it, installed, another retune at 11pm and we were up and running and able to re-enter on Day 2.
Day 2 went well although I felt like shit all day, we set some good times on long stages, and the car behaved very well.

Day 3 we started off well, again the car was quick and working well. I couple of miss-timed pacenotes from me gave us a couple of hairy
moments, but didn’t result in any damage. Then unfortunately in the afternoon, the car began feeling sluggish. So at a refuel we double check
the bolt that cause our issue on Thursday again and found it was coming out, and nothing we did was going to make it stay in place. BUGGER.
We weren't prepared to risk ruining another ECU, especially as it was borrowed. So we withdrew from the remaining 4 stages of the Saturday,
got the car home, pulled out the offending piece of pipe, put the bolt in place and proceed to weld it in place for eternity.
Finished up putting it all back together about 1am.

Re-entered Day 4. Malaga and Perth City stages went really well, we had a blast and managed to cross the finish line with smiles on our faces.
It wasn’t the weekend we wanted, but we made it to the end.

Best part was seeing my kids beaming faces as we crossed under the finishers archway and got our finishers medal.
Now to start preparing for next year. Major big-ups to Sean, Nick, Kiwi and Doug for getting us back out there.

Lasted all of 2.5 stages before the normally harmonious relationship between crown wheel and pinion came to an end. I probably could've continued to the end of stage and tried to complete the final night stage at a doddle pace, then taken the car out of parc ferme overnight to repair and just copped 30 second penalty. But I didn't want to risk opening the casing in the process and dumping oil all over the place. Couldn't live with myself if somebody came off on my oil. Still stoked to finished and learnt a lot over the four days. Blair and Dan in my crew did an awesome job all weekend and big thanks to Race Torque for sorting the diff on Thursday night.

So many Evo's breaking this weekend - a sign of people turning them up too hard to be competitive?

Can only speak for myself but my diff had been in the car for years and probably should've been replaced earlier, simple as that. But compromises are made when the budget is stretched and new transfer cases are expensive.

Congrats to all finishers and thanks to all officials and volunteers!

Chris Beerens and myself, Alex Butler — yes, wow, my username is actually my name. How novel — finished up in 7th outright in car 29 after a fun game of "your turn, my turn" with Graeme Furness & Michael Lloyd. We traded stage times throughout the rally and Chris & I went into the final Perth stages a couple of seconds ahead.
Furness pushed a couple secs ahead of us on the first run. "Time to remove the spare tyre." I joked to Chris. Then we did it.
Graeme looked at us and had a chuckle. Two minutes later he took his out.
It was obviously going to make near no difference but it was about having a laugh, as we had with so many people over the event. We pipped him by 3 secs in the end.

We also picked up 1st Team due to a combined Matty O'Neil & Mandy Lister 2nd outright, Brett Morse & Rodney Ng in 5th, and ourselves in 7th.

A really fun 4 days. 10/10. Would do again… with me behind the wheel of my own car next year.

ps: picture is of last corner, last stage. That's close enough, thanks.
pps: top marks to Flood motorsport. Very professional service team.
