Have looked at both but stuck between all the google experts

What are peoples personal experiences with both

I am down to either a 2003 1KZ or a 2010 D4D

Rebuild costs alone in the d4d is enough to turn me off going anywhere near them. Injectors are know to be noisy and problematic and cost a fortune to rebuild or replace. Although they can handle massive amounts of boost (around 45psi) with standard head studs and old mate at gturbo is getting some mental power from them

Average recon motor goes for 4k, not entirely devastating, but worth it for big boost :-)

D4D Perform a shit load better, but the factory turbo's don't like extra boost. I've put a HKS Fcon ID computer in mine along with a front mount, exhaust and a stage 2 G turbo and it's putting out a touch over 200hp at the tyres through an auto and big tyres. There is a lot you can do to the standard motor as said above, they love boost.

Towed 1950kg of car on trailer total weight a few times with hilux d4d. About 12 - 12.5l/100 driving at 100kmh to albany and back. Never need to change down from 5th, except for hill up to collie, and then Just to 4th. We run heaps of d4d hiluxes for work. Dont recall any issues up to the 160000 or so mark when we get rid of them. I rate them.

Injector issues with ours all seemed to be 07 builds. Toyota have an exchange injector campaign now so instead of a $5k operation it is about $2500.
