Been using AVG for years. Haven't had any issues (that I know of). Just wondering if it's still decent, or if there is va new kid on the block that's worth switching to. Have heard AVG has gone down hill.

Microsoft Security Essentials & adblock on FF/Chrome to block the nasties.
Have run this setup for years without issue on multiple PCs.

Same.
Just like women - use reputable sources.

Malware Bytes Anti-malware - excellent product and as always has a comprehensive threat database.
Super Anti Spyware - cheesy name but very decent product. Has a nice feature to remove PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) too.
Spybot Search and Destroy - an oldie but a goodie. Works well and always has.
Clamwin Antivirus - a very small footprint when running, and has a good database of threats.

Get a good Anti-Rootkit tool like Bleeping Computer's iexplore.exe or Kaspersky's TDSS Killer too.

I run ESET, MalwareBytes and the monthly Microsoft Malicious Removal Tool.

Will have a look at the other MS option though.
