thanks for the link I've checked all the obvious places (carsales & gumtree)
can get a brand new one for 28k - but i only want to spend closer to 20k, ideally for a 2 year old mk7 dsg CL

I'd push the budget and get the TDi, 10 times better than the 90 TSi's, more torque than the GTi I think and half the fuel cost.
Definitely looking at a TDi Tiguan as a family car when it comes time. Brother in law has the Skoda Superb Wagon with the same motor, effortless :)

i only want to spend 22k and not get a loan so a diesel isn't an option.
not worried about fuel cost difference as it will only do a few thousand kms a year.
cheers

Mother in law is on her 2nd set of clutches and 2nd set of Mechatronics in her 2012, has less than 40,000km.
Has also done coils recently and now it's back to shuddering again, which is a sign the box is going again, that's not even bad compared to some of the stories you read on the VW forums, luckily it's not the twin charged, then should would have done an engine as well by now :)

Why do people jerk off over them so hard if they are known to be buckets of shit?

No idea, 7 speeds are known to have issues with any sort of minimal research, same for the twin charged 1.4 TSi's.

Nope, I think last of the MK6's, but it's the same dry clutch box, the only ones to get the good oil cooled 7 speed were the diesels. I think the Tiguan petrol did as well, not 100% sure.
The good thing is, you have a 10 year gearbox warranty, which you should get use out of yearly till you sell it :)

google tells me the dsg was improved for the mk7 & i cant find many complaints with its reliability - especially considering they do sell a lot of them.
just went for a ride around como & saw 5 mk7's

Fair enough, I heard it was the same box, I believe it's a heat issue and ends up with the clutches shuddering, then the mechatronics fail. I think Millhouse still works for VW, maybe ask him.

Maybe find out beforehand, hate to see you buy a car based on misinformation.

I wouldnt touch any car with that duel clutch gear box.

Skoda
Audi
Ford Focus
VW

And there are probably more cars that share it.

They all break, they run rough and need new clutches every 5-10 thousand kms.

I would stay away unless you buy the manual. No problems with the manual gearbox in any of those cars.

If it's under warranty - free
10 year warranty on gearboxes I believe.

I'll need to check my facts but I believe the USA extended their warranty to 10 years whilst Australia only extended it
to 5 years for the effected DQ200 DSGs in the Mark 6 Golfs and other models that had the same transmission).

Our GT TSI is coming up on 120,0000km and is fitted with the same wet clutch DSG as the 2.0 diesel and GTIs and operates perfectly. To give a blanket comment that they're all rubbish is nonsense as I know of nobody with this version DSG that has had issues that wasn't covered by warranty. There were some that needed mechatronic replacements however the symptoms were very obvious early in their life and they were rectified under warranty.
The Mk6 dry clutch boxes though did have issues and that's why they're now covered under the 5 year warranty.
Also, I haven't heard of any issues with the Mk7 DSGs as yet, if you google Mk7 DSG issues there will always be results returned however nobody will start a forum topic to say that there's is just going fine.

Note also that ours is the 125kw (7.7L/100km) Twincharger as fitted to the Mk5 GT and not the 118kw (6.2L/100km) as fitted to the Mk6. If you read between the lines you can see why they had so many issues which included melting holes in Pistons lol

Sorry you are most probably right. I hadn't realised the newer cars have a different DSG.

But the old DSG are buckets of shit. Everyone i know that has one has had a problem.

The wet series DSG's are good, issues pretty much ironed out. The 7 speed dry clutch versions are junk.

^pre mark 7, 7 speed yes.
might be a bit early to know about the latest version yet with the kms that are being done, but it seems its how you drive them off the line & if you use the auto engine stop/start that can be detrimental in some cases.
