Did you do the hot springs at El questro?
Fozzy

Yeah did a fair bit around there and visited lots of gorges etc.. I initially didnt want to go and got all old man grumbly about the commercialisation of the outback and the cost of staying there. But fair play they have done a good job and put alot of work into it and I loved it.

I've got Fozzys sister car, so just to flood thread with more PK Ranger here's a few snaps. I'm more in to touring around rather than hardcore offroading. So there's a few random places.

That forward control looks amazing!! Any more details?
I'm currently trying to sell my SWB Game edition, you know anyone who would be keen? It's a pretty rare beast.
I've got a full build thread on AULRO, rebuilt from the ground up and just got it on the road last November. It currently uses about 3x the amount of fuel my SS VE uses so once I've got some of the easier issues out of the way I'll start playing with the carbies. Have contemplated a Holden 5L or LS1 but keen to keep it close to original. It's not a long distance driver (max comfortable speed of around 85kmh) so not a huge concern.
It's probably worth sticking your SIII on AULRO classifieds section but no idea on what the market is like for them. Seems Series 2's are being snapped up pretty quickly at the moment so another few years and Series 3's might be the in thing.
So do you boys know much about engine conversions in old Landies? I've previously had the opportunity to grab a family friends Series III lwb, its an ex Australian army radio vehicle. It has the shitter rover 6 cylinder in it unfortunately.. Which is why I lost interest in it.
I know engine conversions are available everywhere but the quality varies, as does the reliability. Any pointers?
Passage GT
28-04-2015, 07:23 PM
i know they're not very popular, especially here, but the old holden red motor was a popular conversion back in the day, they're very torquey down low, one of the simplest engines ever made so easy to repair and they're a dime a dozen..
i'd love an old landy (minus lucas electrics)
Yeah I'd be happy to fit a 202, but who makes decent quality conversion kits? I keep reading stuff about misalignment etc with kits that aren't built properly. Because it's Australian specific, kit production and quality is relatively low.

Yep but we only normally do 1 stop. Fridge is accessible from the side so it's only the kitchen - not a big deal for this trip as we are staying in a hotel on the way there and back for overnighters and then just off and on once for the main stay.
Longer term plan is a roof rack that open up over the top of the camper but didn't have enough time to make that before this trip. We are only carrying the 2nd spare for the longer trips that will have a bit more risk. Every other trip we haven't bothered.
for the extra 5 minutes I'm not too bothered I just didn't want the weight over the ball.
Not the long term plan but will do for a couple of hours worth of work on the weekend to make that.

Too easy, looks like you have Cooper Zeon LTZ so the carcass should be well and truly good enough for Karijini, whilst that 2nd spare would probably last a few kms before getting road damage.
Karijini at this time of the year if it's not been graded before school holidays will be rough as guts on the long roads in... But you'll enjoy it big time, I love that place! Had planned to drop in 'on the way' to Exmouth in the 2nd week of holidays, but that idea was shutdown :(
If you can, get the same rims and tyres on the camper trailer, or at least the same bolt pattern and offset... that way you can have two spares in total and not need to lug around another. I've got 3 spares between car and camper and have never fitted a spare in 10 yrs of off road adventures. Travels out to Israelite bay and up to Kalumburu, one end to the other and everything in between...

Yep both spares are the original Goodyear junk the disco was delivered with.
Worst part with the Discovery is minimum 19 inch rims so putting them on the camper is shit.

here i checked the creek before i crossed it on low tide

also stopped in at quobba on the way back down and caught a few fish but nothing to write home about , im going to do another trip later this year i think back up to the cape range national park and down the coast again , maybe either do mill stream or el questro this time
Was the old Whaling station worth while? Always wanted to check it out, but never really had the time when I've been there, also reluctant to do a salt water crossing haha.
i didnt even see the whaling station to be honest , salt water crossings arnt usually my thing either but the round trip to get back from yardi and go all the way back up and around the exmouth tip and then head south again is like 200 odd ks i think and iv got a winch on my car so wasnt fussed , theres actually a low reef that runs the width of the river mouth so if you drive on it , its safe as . we then headed onto ningaloo station

Is your tray or chassis bent? Looks like the headboard is pulled away from the cab.
nah i built it like that , i shoot kangaroos professionally so when i wash the blood off it runs off , with the old tray the water was collecting at the front and rusting it out quickly , i also have airbags so can pump it up to be level

Can only do about 85km/h. Will need a jerry can or 2 as well as the car uses about 15l/100 when towing it.
Anyone have any recomendations for msut see spots along the way? I want to explore SA quite alot, then head along Great ocean rd.

I totally would have just drilled a couple of holes in the tray haha.
Whaling station is good alot of it has rusted away but you can explore and still see quite a lot of things there I probably walked around for a couple of hours.

We did the Holland track last year and it was fun. we went hyden up to Coolgardie and then headed back down to a few other tracks. I think we went in may from memory and it wasn't too bad and not too much traffic coming the other way.
We were a little rushed for time as we had to make camp at certain time frames but still pretty cool :)

I'd not want to be out there in Jan when its touching 40 degs during the day and then real cold at night time!
It'll be dry, dusty and Mt holland itself will be a bull dust pit that if you fart will cloud the whole area in dust.
Was there over winter this year, and even when it rains, mt holland is still bull dust, the water drains right through it!
Go to Kal, and take a run down to Esperance and check that out instead, much nicer place to be in summer
