Hi All,
I was recently working on Barrow Island as a Trainer/Assessor with LCPL before being let go unexpectedly while being told I've done a great job...
Anyway it happened 20 minutes before my bus for R&R and since then I'm struggling to get work of any kind.
I'm looking to build more experience in my training field so I'm keen for a role as a laborer/operator, would love to get on Barrow again with a different company, or any other oil/gas project however I'm not having much luck with anything at all recently and funds are drying up.
It was my first full time FIFO role, so I may be looking in the wrong spots.
Any leads would be very much appreciated.
Thanks Gents!

Contact TJ or American Dave, they work at DT Workforce & deal with fifo work.
But there's a lot of redundancies this last week. Just so you know

Everyone cutting back at moment. May have to wait it out until next financial year.
Might be up shit creek for a while.
General reason for people being let go is they know there is a flood of people wanting work who will work for a hell of a lot less just to get up there.

Go to the Downer website and apply, if you just want to go as a T/A you should have no problems getting on considering you will already have all inductions etc.
We will be manning up heavily very shortly.

I don't think downer are taking any more applications, from what I heard they had over 15000 applications for 1500 positions.
CKJV should be rehiring in a few months when they start to kick the sparkys off and load up with mechanical again for train 2 try and get something in the mean time then jump back on when they are rehiring.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it illegal to make someone redundant and directly replace them? Or did you just get the sack?
Correct, if it's a genuine redundancy you can't replace for a year. You are also supposed to consult with them, offer potential other roles if practicable etc.

And if he was sacked, it doesn't sound like they had a valid reason.

They'll just say they have 2 people in the same position, they just let one go. Good luck pursuing it....

Without going into huge detail, it was a bit of a shit situation. Quite a few members of the team were angry/confused as to why it happened and have even stayed in touch since then.
I apparently had no leg to stand on due to being on probation. Regardless, it was my first full time fifo role and I learnt a lot and as said I loved the gig. I was told the work I had done while there was fantastic and they had no issues with anything I'd done. I'd possibly associate it with being singled out as I was on probation, and the youngest Trainer/assessor on the team.
Just hoping to move forward, and continue to develop skills and knowledge for the industry. The challenging part is finding another gig!!

At the end of the day with barrow / all major projects if the client says they need rooms for another company / scope of work redundancy are handed out, usually at short notice in knee jerk type reactions due to the nature in how they occur

You are somewhat correct, you didn't have a leg to stand due to probation.......
But even if you were out of the probation period (6 months?) you may not have been eligible to apply for unfair dismissal anyway as applicants must earn under $133,000 per year.
Most Barrow workers are on a hell of a lot more than that.
