Clarkson is an arrogant ass, surprised it never happened earlier.

It will resume back to normal in due course. Too many people love/love to hate him for the show to continue without him.

According to reports in the UK, Clarkson, 54, allegedly threw a punch at the show’s assistant producer Oisin Tymon when he discovered there was no food prepared for a day of filming at a location in Newcastle.

They came to the end of filming after a long day and Jeremy discovered that no food had been laid on. He just saw red and hit the assistant producer, who he blamed for not having organised the food. He snapped

Musta been coming down from a sugar high and needed food... Where's Healthagenix when ya need it!

Other Top Gear controversies
May 2014 - The programme drew complaints when video footage leaked to the Daily Mirror appeared to show Jeremy Clarkson using a racist term while reciting the nursery rhyme Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe. The presenter later apologised for the incident, which was never broadcast
October 2012 - The BBC Trust ruled comments by Clarkson which likened the design of a camper van to people with facial disfigurements breached disability guidelines.
January 2012 - Indian diplomats complained about a 90-minute India special in which a car fitted with a toilet in its boot is described by Clarkson as "perfect for India because everyone who comes here gets the trots".
February 2011 - The BBC apologised to Mexico after Clarkson and his co-hosts characterised Mexicans as "lazy" and "feckless".

But Clarkson, on his first afternoon 'off' appeared to be even more relaxed than he usually is when he does something controversial. Speaking to The Sun, he said:

I'm having a nice cold pint and waiting for this to blow over. undefined

Will the BBC go for the £ or the safety of their employees/enforce some condition of employment against workplace violence etc.If anyone here took a swing at a subordinate would you still have a job?

If the producer cracked Clarkson, would it be all sweet?

Jumanji
12-03-2015, 07:41 AM
Irrespective of it being "Clarkson". He still hit an Employee, I think given his need to be on that show due to his massive following he should be fined and leave it at that. But I wonder what pushed him to hit the person I mean, yes it's wrong but people don't go hitting others in that situation for no good reason.

Sacking him will be commercial suicide

Top gear to the bbc is what the simpsons are to fox.

If he gets the boot networks world wide will scramble and offer what ever it takes to get the whole top gear crew over. And I reckon the bbc know this all too well.

But I wonder what pushed him to hit the person I mean, yes it's wrong but people don't go hitting others in that situation for no good reason.

They were filming a segment, and the producer wanted the 3 of them fasting for a day or 2 during filming. I'm guessing it was a survival type segment. Clarkson told them up front that he couldn't do it for health reasons or something like that but the producer ignored his wishes.

BBC needs Clarkson more than Clarkson needs the BBC. They're predicting in excess of £350m in damages for BBC if the last 3 episodes aren't broadcast.

The BBC seems to of taken a seriously strong line here... Which is fucked given they'd basically just got all the deals in place to run the P1 - 918 - La Ferarri track test :(

Without knowing the in's and outs of Clarksons contract surely it's time for a rival network to swoop (do non compete clauses count if he gets sacked ?)

I read today that Andy Wilman, Clarkson's good friend and executive producer of TG was seen having a meeting at rival TV station ITV's London offices. Naturally he said it was unrelated to the show but I'd be sure he is shopping around a Clarkson based motoring show. Probably why Jeremy is super relaxed about how this all turns out.

Clarkson, who has a seven figure contract with the BBC, was suspended on March 10 after reporting himself to his bosses over the incident.

Wow, if this is true, shows some true character! He surely would've known or expected some repercussions.

I hope that's seven figures per episode!

They've all grown as presenters over the years, each with their own spin-off series (mostly irrelevant to motoring), but Clarkson has remained the glue for Top Gear.
Sure, the recipe has remained constant, almost stagnant, with the same old jokes and diatribe, but the show has become almost a spectacle to see how outrageous Clarkson can become.

I'm sure Tiff Needell has taken more than a few notes from Clarksons car commentary - and he's not alone.

Well May and Hammond probably needed the back up jobs. As long as they were with Clarkson, anything could happen!

The way I see it, there are two arguments here.

Firstly, no one should be subjected to the kind of verbal and physical "abuse" from anyone, including a high profile celebrity. So something had to happen, a line had to be drawn.

Secondly, this has caused the end of Top Gear which is one of the most popular TV shows on the planet and is a huge source of revenue for BBC. Can this format be repeated? Probably not. It might be revived in some shape or form but reincarnations have so far been sub-par.

They worked together for years so I'd imagine that Clarkson got as much from Tiff as the other way around. I used to watch all of their old stuff in the early 2000's and I used to find Tiff funnier.

Topgear was as much about the 3 presenters as it was the cinematography... So where they pop up (if they ever would) I would hope that they take with them some of the production staff to help keep that same feeling...

I'm torn about this situation with Clarkson.

On the one hand, he assaulted a colleague at work. As with any workplace, you should be fired for that.

However, he's BBC's golden goose, and you would assume they would look after him as much as possible. I don't understand how the producers, and the show's management team, could allow Clarkson to get into a situation where arguing with a staff member and throwing punches was possible. I can't help but think Clarkson isn't entirely at fault for this situation.

If this happened in the USA - Clarkson would be fined, do community service and the victim would have got a $$$ payout.

Like any show, the more you watch it, the more you appreciate the personalities (or characters if fictitious).

TG US has a major disadvantage for worldwide appeal because.. well.. it's full of Americans.

I'm sure if you gave TG AU three solid seasons, and maybe hosted by Jim Jefferies, it would be a roaring success.
