Anyone have any suggestions and know of a decently priced AT tyre? Don't do much serious 4WDing. Probably 85% road, 10% sand, 5% peagravel/rock/mud.

Suggestions of tyre shops SOR or any deals going?

Have Maxxis 771 31x10.5xR15 on there at the moment that have done well for year but pretty much shot.

Cheers.

For that combination, Bridgestone D694's.

If you did a bit more offroading, I would suggest the BF AT's or Maxxis do a similar tread pattern.

If you did a bit alot more offroading, but not enough mud to warrant MT's, I'd suggest the Goodyear Duratracs, MT AT 4 rib, or Cooper ST Maxx.

I'd recommend Cooper STmaxx. I have had a great run with mine. AT with a meatier tread pattern and a more agressive side wall than most AT's. A bit expensive, however they last a very long time and are a tough tyre that is relatively quiet.

Thanks all.

Tried to be conservative with the percentages but definitely drive to and from work more than I get off road. Might be a bit higher off road.

Cheers mate. Will check out with the local shops and see how it looks for fitment etc.

Usually $40 a tyre fit and balance, sometimes $60... doesn't make buying from east or OS attractive at all.

As a few above, Cooper ST Maxx will fit the bill. Might look aggressive, but very nice on road and very nice in the pea gravel.

I tour with Cooper STT, with majority of bitumen roads to get to the fun tracks. Like long weekend, 20km of dirt track, 830kms of bitumen.

BFG's are old and over rated can get a lot newer Tech Tyres now that will last longer and out perform.

Most have been mentioned earlier, but I would go the Coopers for Durability and quality

The new k02 BFG AT has already been released in the US, is coming here soon, saying that I had an awesome run with my last set, 50,000km, at least 20,000 of those on Pilbara dirt roads and not a single puncture, performed well and only half worn...
Coopers are not a popular tyre up here at all, I work in a tyre shop now and i've seen a lot of customers change out their old sets for anything else, all swearing never to use them again, last guy was had 33 inch STT's on his ranger (6 of them)
They were super chewed out, chunks etc missing and he reckons he altered his pressures every time he went off road, had also had several replaced under warranty already as well.
My Current km2's i flog hard off road here, don't air them down unless i'm hitting the beach, wearing good, no punctures, no chunks missing etc...same can be said for the MTZ's on my mates cruiser ute, he's on his second set, never had an issue with them.
This is just my personal experience, i'm sure plenty have had a good run with Coopers but i've heard a hell of a lot more bad stories.

BTW we're not a BFG dealer, i actually haven't seen a set here since i started, we deal in Federal, Hercules, their cheap offshoots and just about every truck tyre under the sun (our main source of business) I hear we're soon to be the Pilbara's main Toyo dealer also.

I've fitted hundreds of set and seen the results of good care and maintenance as well on them.

With correct tyre pressures they go for ever! People having them Chew out have either got the wrong tyre for the application or are running to higher/lower pressure in them (probably my only gripe with them as they are sensitive to it) They basically tear themselves apart due tot he tread design.

Also they amount of people who fit STT's or the like that should be using AT or even HT's is way to high. They get fixated on what they think they want and not whats going to work best for the situation and what they will realistically be driving on.

I've been using bidgestone duellers for a while now 85k kms and they have done everything I've asked of them.. Not great in mud though.

Seriously, jump on Gumtree and save a heap..

I picked up 4 x PIRELLI SCORPION ATR tyres that are just great the drive on, and the small 4w driving I have done with them have zero complaints..

Picked up 4 for $200 (they RRP for 405ea)... still with the little rubber nobs on them.. People seem to buy new, then ditch the spec tyres for larger 33" plus types...

Yeh I think $200, which will pay for fitting so that's decent enough.
Think they are $550 a tyre retail, see what I can come up with, cheers anyhow

i did 120000kms on 33'' stt's. never a problem. that was running up to worsley from bunbury 7 nights a week and serious hardcore offroading every weekend, running auto locked rear aswell. my old man has bfg km2s on his 07 lux, brand new in cairns, drove to bunbury and has done 15000kms and they are half gone.

I think sometimes you get good batches and sometimes bad, everybody raved about Maxxis Bighorns, mate had one blow a hole the size of my fist out while we were offroading on mud, pressures were around 20 psi, it was a week old.
The next one blew a hole around the same size on Gt Northern hwy, doing 110km/h, was about 2000km old.

This,

You are always going to get an occasional bad batch or issue. I could find a bad story about any tyre - but people never report the good runs - only the bad.

Wait until you have 57" tyres letting go....

I could talk up my China Muddies, I've had them nearly a year, gone over soft sand, plowed through mud no worries and sharp rocks, all on 20 psi, mind you I've only been offroad on them 3 times in that year and done about 500km, but they've been great. 3ply sidewall and 10 ply on the other bit.

So, In my experience - Maxtrek Mud Trac's - Best Mud tyre I've ever had :P

May differ from your experience.......

Been running the Hercules AT2's for awhile. Good on the road and basic off road stuff so far. Haven't been too far off the beaten track with them yet though.

Anyone tried out Kuhmo KL78's? I need a new set for my Rangie in 31x10.5 15's. Car does mostly bitumen work and a bit of beach driving. Not keen on a muddy due to noise etc.

TIA!

Not khumos but I just bought some toyo at2s in 265/75/16 they were the right price at 270 a tyre seem good so far!

Hopefully they will go alright over their life cycle. Probably a little aggressive as a sand tyre though

My old man needs new tyres for his Prado. Any recommendations for 265/65/17?

BF AT the way to go? Considering he is mostly road/highway going but wants something that can deal with off-road too as he occasionally goes on fishing trips up north.

Depends whats available in that size really. Ive been happy with the Bridgestone Dueler 697s and the price on them is usually right (bridgestone dealers and bob jane are usually the cheapest) given he mainly does road ks I reckon they would be perfect unless he wants to fork out for Scorpions or something
