I've had my car posted up on carsales for sometime and during a recent test drive the fourth engine build let go.
Some of you have seen the car previously and may know a bit about it and who built it and some don't. I'll leave it at that.
Long story short I had it built locally with nothing but frustration, $60.000+ gone into it between the four rebuilds, parts and labour. Treated the car with nothing but respect with best of products thrown at it maintenance wise.
I want to be honest about the whole experience I had with the car so no one else goes through the same thing.
First time the engine let go was because the stock oil pick up snapped (which my brother suggested to be upgraded the first time the engine got built and I was told the stock should be fine...) second time was a headgasket with coolant disappearing, third time headgasket with coolant disappearing, now the same thing again with coolant usage of 500ml to 100 kms. Kept going back and forth to resolve the problem or at least find out what was going on and I've been told it's hard to tell what the engine is doing at nearly 600hp. Had a suspected "coolant leak" fixed but it kept on using coolant regardless. After talking to multiple subaru specialised workshops over east we have come to a conclusion (in my case and experience I was having) that one of the sleeves have moved hence the same symptoms last three builds being loss of coolant.
My advice to who ever buys the car and really wants a decent 2.5L built is to get Deshele performance over in QLD to build a tough engine as they have proved it that they can build a 2.5L ej and have most of them running 9's down the quarter.
It is ticking now with a suspected bottom end failure. Will not be spending a single cent on it and need it gone ASAP as it's been nothing but a waste especially when it's been put together four times and the problems still weren't rectified.
